HRF Launches Ten Challenges with BTC Rewards for Crypto Developers

0

A series of ten challenges will allow developers in the crypto sector to obtain rewards in BTC for the creation of tools.

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) organization recently launched the Bitcoin Bounty Challenge initiative to offer BTC rewards to crypto developers. In this sense, it places ten challenges for the creation of tools aimed at improving solutions related to the Bitcoin network.

The recently announced initiative seeks to increase the usability and security of some second-layer solutions. Among them are Lightning Network, E-Cash, and Nostr. Thus, it would bring improvements for the network in general, in addition to becoming strong support for open-source developers.

Developers have 522 days to deliver their tool projects. It is worth mentioning that, if the ten proposals meet expectations, the functionality of the network would enter another level of security, which implies greater benefits for users of the digital currency.

Some Participation Details for Crypto Developers

These challenges with rewards launched to crypto developers are quite complex. Hence, the time to execute them is considerable. Likewise, the payments point to a total of 2 BTC for each challenge.

HRF ensures that the set of challenges is open to adding new rewards to the course. “We are going to release an initial set of 10 bounty challenges. We may add more rewards as we go along. They explain that “an individual or team that completely solves any of the 10 challenges will be able to receive a reward of 2 BTC.”

In any case, developers have until December 31, 2024, to submit their creations. The foundation claims that participation is free and private developers and organizations working in the same direction can compete in it.

“The first person or group to verifiably solve each challenge or mini-challenge will be eligible to receive a BTC grant from HRF,” the note added.

With these elements, developers in the crypto sector have the opportunity to start working now to chase their rewards.

Some of the Challenges

The so-called Bitcoin Bounty Challenge launched by HRF is aimed at supporting developers in the crypto sector. At the same time, it seeks to generally improve the capacity of the Bitcoin network. The openness towards the community so that they participate by offering incentives allows creating more sustainable goals for this chain of blocks.

Thus, the challenges look complex to the lay eyes of non-developers and probably experts as well. One of them is the creation of a dynamic mobile multi-signature non-custodial wallet (multisig) powered by FROST. Basically, this challenge tool should allow users to modify the set of signatories without the need to move the funds to a new address.

HRF claims that submitted proposals will be shared with outside experts, who will impartially determine whether they are functional. “Discerning whether the submissions meet the reward requirements” is the role of industry experts who will evaluate them,” the text reads.

On the other hand, the foundation says that it will make charitable rewards for those developers in the crypto sector who have worked in good faith. In this sense, the developers who have not conquered the first place, but who have done their best, will not be left out.

India: Court Urges Govt to Take Action Against Crypto, Regulatory Dilemma Grows

The Supreme Court of India has ordered the government to reveal its plans to investigate cryptocurrency crimes. The court expressed concern about the absence of a law or an expert agency to supervise the cryptocurrency sector. Industry players wait longer until the country establishes a specialized regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.

The Supreme Court of India has ordered the Union government to reveal its plans to regulate crypto crime in India. According to local reports, the court called it “unfortunate” that the administration has not established a federal agency or law to investigate cryptocurrency cases.

Meanwhile, industry players expect it will take a few months for the country to develop a specialized framework to address the sector.

Supreme Court Withdraws Indian Administration

The judges questioned the government’s ability to handle complex cryptocurrency cases with its current law enforcement setup. According to the Hindustan Times, the officials said:

“Unfortunately, you don’t have any laws yet. Do you have an agency at the national level to understand these cases and investigate properly?”

The judges emphasized the need for a specialized national agency to guarantee quality investigations “in the national interest.” This also means that the government must implement comprehensive crypto regulations.

The statement came as the court addressed petitions filed by Ganesh Shivkumar Sagar, who is currently facing cryptocurrency fraud charges in multiple states. Sagar requested bail and suggested that a central agency lead the investigation.

There is currently no timetable for the introduction of crypto regulation. However, industry players believe that definitive actions toward partial regulation may take a few more months.

Supreme Court of India Registered Lawyer Rajat Mittal noted that “The request by the Supreme Court to the central government to have a law and establish an agency is a significant advance in the ongoing debate on the regulation of cryptocurrencies.

Crypto Legislation Does Not Close

In a recent conversation, Ashish Singhal, head of cryptocurrency exchange CoinSwitch, said that a cryptocurrency regulatory framework may not be put in place in India in the next six months.

The Indian regime puts cryptocurrencies under a tax regime but has not recognized them as a legal asset class. Meanwhile, the Indian central bank has maintained a negative stance on the sector. The country also faces additional pressure as it chairs the G20 summit.

Despite regulatory uncertainty, India has emerged as the largest crypto employer in Asia. It has even bested China for the latter’s regulatory crackdown. India has a significant presence in major crypto companies around the world, according to a recent study by K33 Research.

Crypto Industry in India Faces Challenges

While India remains an attractive destination for the cryptocurrency industry, it also faces challenges with ongoing cryptocurrency-related police cases.

Recently, the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) arrested a resident of the national capital. Reports highlight that the alleged criminal posed as a Canadian government official to trick victims into transferring their assets to crypto wallets.

According to local reports, the central agency recovered around $121,000 during a search operation.

Rajat Mittal explains that agencies such as the GST Intelligence Directorate, Enforcement Directorate, and Financial Investigation Unit are investigating numerous cases involving crypto fraud. He highlighted that these investigations often stall in the absence of clear crypto regulations.

This year, the Indian government brought the cryptocurrency industry under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). However, the Supreme Court directive reflects the pressing need for a well-defined regulatory framework.

Attack on the NATO Portal, Malware in Blockchain Games, and Other Cybersecurity Events

0

A website of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), managed by an external company, has suffered a possible theft of information through a computer attack, as reported by the organization in a statement.

The following highlights the most important news from the world of cybersecurity of the week:

  • The founder of Group-IB was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
  • SiegedSec hackers announced that the NATO portal had been hacked.
  • Crypto-stealing malware has been placed in Blockchain games.
  • The BreachForums database is for sale.

Group-IB Founder Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison

On July 26, Ilya Sachkov, founder of Group-IB, a cyber-attack prevention company, was sentenced to 14 years in a strict colony in a treason case. The BBC reports it.

The case was considered behind closed doors, so it is not known what exactly the businessman is accused of. He did not admit his guilt.

According to some sources, Sachkov may be accused of passing data to the US on Russian Fancy Bear hackers involved in cyberattacks ahead of the 2016 presidential election. This allegedly helped the US identify 12.” GRU agents involved in the attacks.

Ilya Sachkov’s defense intends to appeal the verdict and appeal to the President of the Russian Federation.

SiegedSec Hackers Claim NATO Portal Has Been Hacked

The hacker group SiegedSec reported a hack on its Telegram channel COI — an unclassified environment for information sharing between NATO organizations and alliance member states. CloudSEK experts drew attention to the incident.

According to them, the total size of the published files of the alleged leak is 845 MB. They contain around 8,000 lines of confidential information about users, unclassified documents, as well as account access data. CloudSEK noted that the leak may affect 31 countries.

Alliance representatives are investigating the incident. The hackers themselves said the attack was “a retaliatory attack against NATO countries for their attacks on human rights.”

Cryptocurrency Theft Malware Placed in Blockchain Games

SentinelOne experts have discovered a Realst malware in fake Blockchain games aimed at stealing cryptocurrency from macOS users.

In addition, malware written in Rust is capable of taking screenshots and stealing saved passwords from browsers, and information from the Telegram messenger.

Attackers advertise fake games on social media and offer users to try them out as part of a paid collaboration. They each have their own website, as well as X (formerly Twitter) and Discord accounts. In total, the experts identified 16 variants and 59 Realst samples.

Hackers send access codes to download fake game clients in private messages, allowing them to avoid the attention of information security researchers.

BreachForums Database for Sale

A user with the nickname breached_db_persona is selling the database of the recently closed hacker forum BreachForums on the darknet for $100,000–$150,000. This is reported by Bleeping Computer, citing leak aggregator Have I Been Pwned.

Dated November 29, 2022, the 2 GB dump contains 212,000 records, including usernames, IPs, and email addresses, as well as private messages, encrypted passwords, and payment transaction information.

The forum’s current administrator, nicknamed Baphomet, confirmed the authenticity of the leak, calling it part of an “ongoing campaign to destroy the community.”

BreachForums was shut down by US police in March 2023. Its creator and administrator, Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, aka Pompompurin, was arrested. In late June, the FBI gained control of a waiting forum domain on the web.

French Regulator Investigates Worldcoin for “Questionable Practices”

The legality of the process responsible for collecting biometric data from the Worldcoin project has been questioned. Who has sown doubts in this field is the French privacy watchdog, CNIL. From that office, they slipped that the project of the founder of ChatGPT, Sam Altman, “seems questionable”.

The legality of the process responsible for collecting biometric data from the Worldcoin project has been questioned. Who has sown doubts in this field is the French privacy watchdog, CNIL. From that office they slipped that the project of the founder of ChatGPT, Sam Altman, “seems questionable.”

The initiative was launched last Monday and has the backing of investors such as Andreessen Horowitz. The original proposal asks users to provide their iris scans in exchange for a digital ID. In some countries, the reward is supplemented with free cryptocurrencies.

Questions from France to the Worldcoin Project

The project’s website ensures that it already has the registration of 2.1 million people. Also, the new WLD cryptocurrency is now available. Registered people can already receive these tokens and exchange them.

Faced with a query made by the Reuters news agency to CNIL, the French control body, the suspicion was installed.

“The legality of this collection seems questionable, as are the conditions for storing biometric data.”

Reuters mentions that the response it received by email from the CNIL stated that it had launched investigations in support of the Bavarian state authority in Germany, which has jurisdiction in this regard.

The proposal issued by the French authority is not the only one. BeInCrypto has reported on the supervision exercised by UK regulators. In this case, no consideration was ventured regarding the legality of the project, but it was made clear that it would be subject to controls. The focus of the regulators is to review how user data will be used throughout the implementation.

These first notes could set the tone for these investigations to increase over time. It should be noted that the first hours of the launch have not been as the promoters of the idea expected, presenting more doubts and falls than successes.

The Worldcoin Foundation has been shown at all times with a collaborative attitude regarding the investigations.

“The project will continue to cooperate with governing bodies on requests for more information about their privacy and data protection practices.”

Worldcoin Project Started with Mixed Opinions and Fall in Price

The Worldcoin token saw a 40% drop in value. It has reached two dollars per token, after reaching $3.2 at its launch. With the disclosure of the aforementioned controls, WLD was seen to be slightly above $2.

A part of the community questions how the project tokens are being distributed, basically because the procedure is not clear. In addition, there are many who define the project as an “Orwellian” product that seeks to control its users and their activities.

Vitalik Buterin, Founder of Ethereum, has proposed a change in approach, suggesting that the project become somewhat more decentralized to allay doubts about the information security of the initiative.

The problem arises in its tokenomics. The way the project tokens are being distributed is of concern to the community.

Cryptocurrency Analysis: What Happened to BTC, ETH, DOGE, and XRP?

The current state of cryptocurrencies paints a picture of cautious anticipation.

It’s a mix of minor hiccups but also potential breakups. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and Ripple are discussed below.

Bitcoin: Problems of the Market Leader Among Cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrency pioneer Bitcoin is on a rocky road. BTC is struggling with resistance just below the $30,000 level. Due to multiple failed attempts to breach this limit, the Bitcoin price continues to trade below this psychological level. It is a critical time for BTC as investors eye the future direction of this cryptocurrency giant.

Bitcoin (BTC) is trading today, July 28, at US$29,220.25, according to the Live Coin Watch portal. This price positions it 99% compared to its value 24 hours ago and 98% compared to the same day last week. The token’s current domain (market capitalization) is US$568,007,609,455.

Ethereum: Climbing Hard

Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, faces a similar problem. Despite the growing interest in its smart contract technology and upcoming upgrades, ETH is struggling with the $2,000 resistance. If it manages to break through, a new rally could emerge. Ethereum (ETH) sits at US$1863.31, a change of 0.99% from its price a day ago.

Taking into account the last week, Ethereum registers a fall of 2.85%; On the other hand, from a year ago it still accumulates a rise of 63.11%. Comparing this data with that of past dates, it chains two successive sessions in the fall.

Regarding the volatility of the last days, it is notoriously lower than that accumulated last year; therefore, it is having a more stable behavior than recently expected. Ethereum has reached a maximum of 2,328.65 euros, while its lowest level has been 1,282.09 euros.

Dogecoin: Memecoin’s Wild Ride

Next on the list is Dogecoin, the “meme” cryptocurrency that has shocked the world with its astronomical rise. However, Dogecoin currently fluctuates in the range of $0.06 to $0.10. It is a critical consolidation period for DOGE as investors wonder if the memecoin can prove itself.

The removal of Twitter’s iconic bird logo and its replacement with an “X” has led to speculation about Dogecoin’s role in the revamped microblogging platform. Dogecoin has seen a significant rally, rising 8% and trading at $0.0771. This increase has generated excitement in the cryptocurrency community, as it ranks as the seventh-largest virtual currency by market capitalization.

Ripple: A Ray of Hope Amid Cryptocurrency Turbulence

After its impressive legal victory over the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ripple’s XRP saw a notable rise, with the price rising to $0.94. However, due to the nature of the volatile crypto market, prices have since corrected lower and are currently hovering around the $0.70 level.

While it has been a roller coaster for XRP, analysts expect another uptrend to come along with a possible resumption of bullish momentum in the broader crypto market.

XRP price today is $0.7125 with a 24-hour trading volume of $1,462,864,801. XRP is down 0.85% in the last 24 hours. CoinMarketCap’s current ranking is #4, with a live market cap of $37,527,175,650 USD. It has a circulating supply of 52,693,851,493 XRP coins and a max. supply of 100,000,000,000 XRP coins.

SEC Chairman Insists Bitcoin ETFs “Do Not Prevent Fraud”

Gary Gensler was skeptical of cryptocurrencies, although he did not express any opinions on ETFs. Gensler’s views on a Bloomberg show suggest that he opposes any approval of Bitcoin ETFs. Brian Armstrong invited crypto users to “reach out” to legislators to “pressure” them to vote on new cryptocurrency bills.

US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler has reiterated his skepticism about Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). Although he avoided commenting on the requests, he said he was concerned about “fraud” and “manipulation” of the cryptocurrency markets.

In an interview with the SEC chairman for Bloomberg TV, he declined to comment on the Bitcoin ETFs that are under review. However, he reiterated that he is concerned about the ease of fraud and manipulation of the cryptocurrency market, which could be interpreted as a clear opposition to any approval of Bitcoin spot ETFs.

SEC Chairman Maintains Skepticism about Cryptocurrencies

Gensler’s stance is known for his skepticism and animosity towards cryptocurrencies. He even recalled that members of the SEC analyze Bitcoin ETF cases, BlackRock being the best known. Gensler expressed the following on Bloomberg TV:

“There is a lot of non-compliance in this field. The platforms themselves, where various crypto tokens are traded, although some of them are subject to securities laws, currently do not necessarily comply with those proven protections against fraud and manipulation.”

On July 16, the SEC officially acknowledged receiving applications for Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) from traditional financial institutions, including BlackRock and Fidelity. Meanwhile, Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, said the asset manager needs to democratize access to investments while comparing Bitcoin ETFs to the advent of gold ETFs.

“[Cryptocurrency] has a differentiating value against other asset classes, but more importantly, because it is so international, it is going to transcend any currency.”

Separately, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong invited cryptocurrency users to “reach out” to representatives and “pressure” them to vote in favor of new cryptocurrency bills. He even suggested holders go to ActNow and lobby US lawmakers:

“Important step you can take to protect the value of your crypto in America. We need your help to make sure the legislative process keeps moving forward.”

Coinbase CEO Calls to “Push” Lawmakers on Regulation

Days ago, Armstrong admitted that he had a scheduled closed-door meeting with Democratic lawmakers, as well as with members of the House of Representatives. The manager has already met with representatives of both parties, who are in fact discussing a regulation of cryptocurrencies.

On July 27, Armstrong tweeted the following:

“Today, two House committees started voting to take an important step on legislation that will create regulatory clarity for crypto. They will continue tomorrow. The bill will evolve during the legislative process, but a vote today for the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21 Century Act is a vote to protect your crypto, American innovation, and national security.”

The disclosed minutes of issues included aspects such as taxes, national security, privacy, and climate. The moment is not a minor aspect. The talk occurred at a time when the company represented by Armstrong is under legal attack from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
