When Will Cryptocurrency Markets See a Real Rally?

0

The main cryptocurrencies have experienced an upward trend.

When the November Consumer Price Index was announced, the major cryptocurrencies rallied to trade in the green. Due to the significant reduction in US inflation statistics, the largest cryptocurrency Bitcoin experienced a big rally on Wednesday, reaching its highest level in a month. In the last twenty-four hours, Ether has also seen a positive trend, as investor attention has shifted to the FOMC policy meeting.

The US inflation rate fell to 7.1% in November, below analyst expectations of 7.3%, data showed Tuesday. Since last December, the inflation rate this month is the lowest of the whole year.

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to raise interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point, at the end of its two-day policy meeting on Wednesday, implying a less aggressive stance from the central bank in light of recent data.

Will Ethereum Overtake BTC Soon?

The current 24-hour Ethereum transaction volume is $8.3 billion at the $1,323 price. According to CoinMarketCap, the value of Ethereum has increased by around 4.5% in the last 24 hours, reaching a total market capitalization of $162 billion.

Ethereum price recently broke above the $1305 resistance mark, breaking out of an ascending triangle pattern on the 4-hour time frame. This level is now acting as support. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) and Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) indicate a positive outlook.

Smart Contracter, the pseudonymous analyst who accurately predicted the bottom of Bitcoin (BTC) in 2018, now says that Ethereum (ETH) will start to rise dramatically, on its way to becoming the largest digital asset by market capitalization.

According to Smart Contracter’s tweets to his 216,700 followers, the largest altcoin’s value is likely to reach levels not seen in more than five years. Smart Contracter adds that it anticipates that Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin in market capitalization during the next bull market.

It is worth noting that Smart Contracter is not the only one predicting an increase in the price of Ether. Mike McGlone, a commodities analyst at Bloomberg, noted that the fact that stablecoins make up four of the top five digital assets by volume shows just how valuable Ethereum’s technology is. The expert explains how Ethereum technology facilitates instant and low-cost transactions in digital currencies.

On the other hand, Raoul Pal, a former Goldman Sachs executive, refers to a graph titled “Ethereum Today vs. 2017-2021 Analog chart”, which, if it were to be followed, would indicate that ETH is currently very close to the bottom of the bear market.

The expert also analyzed a chart that he says shows how investors have become quite bearish about the stock market.

What Can Be Expected in the Future?

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will have its last meeting of the year later today. As is customary, Fed members will share their most recent inflation and interest rate projections (dot plot) with the public after the meeting.

Following the release of the CPI data, major cryptocurrencies including ETH, BTC and the rest of the market experienced an uptrend. The same thing is likely to happen after the FOMC meeting.

The AIFC Discussed the Preliminary Results of the “Pilot” Between Bitcoin Exchange Houses and Banks in Kazakhstan

0

ForkLog spoke with Yagub Zamanov, Director of the Financial Technology Department of the AIFC Financial Services Regulation Committee, about the new regulations for bitcoin exchanges, among other topics.

Kazakhstan plans to become a regional crypto hub, but to do so the country will need to improve regulation of the industry and mitigate risks against the backdrop of declining market capitalization, as well as a series of bankruptcies of large international companies.

Thus, ForkLog spoke with the Director of the Financial Technology Department of the AIFC Financial Services Regulation Committee about the new regulations for bitcoin exchanges, the development of local startups, and the collapse of FTX.

Kazakhstan’s New Regulations for Bitcoin Exchanges

ForkLog (FL): Hi Yagub. In April, Kazakhstan’s financial regulator announced the initiative for the creation and development of exchanges based on the AIFC. How many cryptocurrency-related companies have been licensed by the center so far?

Yagub Zamanov (Ya.Z.): To date, we already have nine authorized suppliers. Most of them are cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency broker QuantDART FinTech Limited, as well as tokenized stock exchange Bitfinex Securities.

FL: Some of the commercial platforms you mentioned are participating in a pilot project for interaction with commercial banks. What is it about?

Ya.Z.: Exchanges have access to second-tier banks (STBs) and can now open bank accounts, accept fiat currencies from clients, exchange them for digital assets, and vice versa.

In general, the pilot project works successfully under the strict control of the working group, which includes representatives of the AIFC, the National Bank of Kazakhstan, ICRIAP, ARRFR, and AFM. By the end of 2022, we will summarize the results of this interaction in more detail.

Development of Local Startups in Kazakhstan

FL: Has the number of Blockchain startups in the country increased?

Ya.Z.: If we take the Blockchain technology itself, then there can be an absolute multitude of projects not necessarily related to financial services. Their teams tend to be very forward-thinking and offer innovative products. Interest in the development of this area has always been at a high level.

Perhaps the current crisis in the crypto markets affects the number of specialized startups, but I think this will be more of a leak than the death of the entire industry.

The Collapse of FTX

To conclude the interview, Zamanov claimed that the major problem with FTX was the lack of proper regulation, which, according to him, “allowed the misuse of client funds for their own purposes. As a result, the exchange lost many assets and eventually filed for bankruptcy.”

The director is positive that regulating the crypto market will not take long, adding that back in 2018, “the first rudiments of a regulatory regime for digital assets appeared.”

In his view, nowadays, international practice is taken into account and, at least in Kazakhstan, they will try to prevent existing risks. All of this is within the framework of the pilot project, as well as of the future new regulatory regime.

BBVA Accelerates Crypto Adoption

On this occasion, award-winning sustainable projects such as farmers, winners, and producers were invited to Ciudad BBVA, where all the guests could put their products up for sale in the metaverse for bank employees.

According to BBVA, the invitation focused on projects such as “El Celler de Can Roca”, that sold chocolate, as well as other thirty solidarity actions. In addition, the metaverse will open its doors to family and friends of BBVA. The company reported the following:

“A few days before these internal events, Ciudad BBVA will open its doors to the family and friends of the entire staff, with entertainment activities for the little ones that will include a visit from Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men, a family rock concert, a gymkhana throughout the venue through QR codes and augmented reality.”

FTX Co-Founder Indicted by Federal Grand Jury in Manhattan, Bahamas Magistrate Denies SBF Bail

0

After Bankman-Fried’s appearance this Tuesday before the Nassau Court, Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt determined that the young financier should remain in pretrial detention and ordered his entry into the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until February 8, 2023.

On December 13, 2022, the Southern District of New York (SDNY) attorney’s office and SDNY attorney Damian Williams revealed that FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried was charged with “fraud, money laundering and campaign finance offences. SDNY attorney Williams said the case was not an issue of “mismanagement or poor supervision” but “intentional fraud, plain and simple.”

Ferguson-Pratt adjourned this morning’s hearing to allow the defendant to speak with his attorney Jerone Roberts, as Bankman-Fried claimed he could not be reached, and the hearing resumed in the afternoon.

SDNY DA’s Office and Attorney Williams Charge SBF with Eight Financial Crimes

An indictment was unsealed by a federal grand jury in Manhattan on December 13, 2022, tied to disgraced former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF). The SDNY Department of Justice (DOJ) press release details that SBF is charged with “conspiracy to commit wire fraud, commodity fraud, securities fraud, money laundering, as well as conspiracy to defraud the Federal Election Commission, and commit campaign finance violations.”

The SDNY DOJ indictment says SBF faces up to 165 years in prison, and investigators note that since 2019, “Bankman-Fried and his accomplices perpetrated a scheme to defraud FTX customers by misappropriating billions of dollars of the funds of those clients.”

In addition, the Department of Justice claims that SBF “allegedly used billions of dollars of FTX client funds for its own personal use, to make investments, and millions of dollars in political contributions to federal political committees and candidates.”

SEC and CFTC Charges against SBF

The news from the DOJ’s Manhattan team follows charges brought against SBF by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and a lawsuit filed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Both charges detail that FTX executives allegedly engaged in fraud from day one. SDNY attorney Damian Williams said in a statement Tuesday that he believes the fraud was frankly intentional, “not a case of mismanagement, or poor supervision.”

Interestingly, in the SEC, CFTC, and SDNY DOJ charges, Sam Bankman-Fried is the only person charged other than his companies, and former Alameda executive Caroline Ellison is not named.

In Tuesday’s SDNY DOJ press release, FBI Deputy Director of the FBI’s New York Field Office, Michael J. Driscoll, warned that “we will persist in our efforts to bring him to justice.” Reuters further reported on Tuesday, that despite SBF’s alleged mental illnesses, the Bahamian magistrate in charge of his case denied his bail. “Bankman-Fried will be sent to the Bahamas Department of Corrections until February 8, [the] judge says.”

The Popular ‘Tazos’ of the 90s Return to the Market, in NFT Format

0

Those who want to obtain them will not be able to pay for them with traditional money or cryptocurrencies, but will only be able to do so if they first purchase PepsiCo products.

The renowned tazos returned to the ring at the hands of Sabritas. The snack brand, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, launched the “NFTazos”, a series of non-fungible tokens that hit the market with the World Cup theme.

The ’90s are bent on making a comeback in the present, and this time they’re back, in the form of NFT mugs. The Sabritas snack brand launched a series of collectibles that can be purchased through the JOY APP. The NFT series has more than 1,000 designs in the gold, silver, and bronze categories.

Although, in general, NFTs are acquired through platforms such as OpenSea, in this case users can only obtain them from the JOY APP. In addition, each of the NFTazos is backed with a certificate of authenticity by Vatom.

Remembering the Past

For those who do not have much context, the tazos were round pieces of plastic or metal, which had images of recognized characters, such as Pokemon, printed on them. The idea of the youth of the 90s was not only to collect these pieces but also to play with them, throwing them against others that were located on the floor. The ultimate goal was to flip the pogs and whoever did it first would win their rival’s pog.

How to Acquire Sabritas NFTazos?

Sabritas is a PepsiCo brand that is available in Mexico. Those interested in acquiring these non-fungible tokens must download the JOY APP, and they will be available there. Of course, those who want to obtain them will not be able to do so by paying traditional money or cryptocurrencies but will only be able to do so if they first purchase PepsiCo products.

With these products, users will be able to exchange JOY points, which are obtained by entering the codes of the participating packages.

The theme of playing with the cups remains because the idea of Sabritas is to allow users to collect them and face other rivals to claim the rival’s cup or lose their own.

Although in general those who acquire NFTs obtain significant benefits, beyond the token itself, this is not the case with NFTazos. Sabritas indicated that they do not grant additional rewards or themes, beyond giving users the experience of having a mug again in their possession.

Sabritas also assured that, as was the case with traditional tazos, it is expected to be able to launch different types of thematic collections, to the extent that the brand can make new collaborations.
