The Spanish bank integrates the metaverse into its recreational activities. BBVA has shown interest in the metaverse with various activities throughout the year.

The Spanish bank BBVA announced that it celebrated the Christmas holidays with its employees in its own metaverse, a virtual space created for the interaction of its employees and which is set in the La Vela space, an area with an emblematic building in Madrid.

Imma Catalá, global head of Culture and Engagement at BBVA, explained like follows:

“The metaverse offers us a space with great possibilities to feel all the teammates in the Group despite the physical distance, something that reinforces the feeling of a team and the pride of belonging. This type of technology is going to have a significant impact on the financial industry and, for this reason, BBVA is carrying out important tests and pilots to find out how they can help us solve business challenges, be more efficient, or create better experiences for our customers.”

BBVA and the Metaverse

BBVA has shown interest in the metaverse before. At the end of October, its headquarters in Mexico launched the first “Digital Economy Fund” to offer financial services clients the option to invest in digital projects, FinTech, non-fungible tokens (NFT), metaverse, and other business models related to the Web 3.0.

In Mexico, people can invest in Blockchain projects from 50 pesos (2.4 dollars). In Colombia, BBVA clients will be able to invest in Web 3.0 projects starting from 20,000 Colombian pesos (4.13 dollars). The bank implemented the BBVADIG fund with the participation of public companies listed in the International Quotation System.

BBVA Accelerates Crypto Adoption

On this occasion, award-winning sustainable projects such as farmers, winners, and producers were invited to Ciudad BBVA, where all the guests could put their products up for sale in the metaverse for bank employees.

According to BBVA, the invitation focused on projects such as “El Celler de Can Roca”, that sold chocolate, as well as other thirty solidarity actions. In addition, the metaverse will open its doors to family and friends of BBVA. The company reported the following:

“A few days before these internal events, Ciudad BBVA will open its doors to the family and friends of the entire staff, with entertainment activities for the little ones that will include a visit from Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men, a family rock concert, a gymkhana throughout the venue through QR codes and augmented reality.”

At the end of October, BBVA rewarded a virtual game aimed at promoting financial education among the younger generations. This is in the context of the seventh edition of the BBVA Hackathon and the Metaverse Challenge, which the company announced last June.
