$BTC: Imminent “Capitulation Fall” to $30,000 Predicted by Crypto Analyst: “This Is the Final Warning”

The crypto analyst’s broader prediction focuses on a drop to around $30,000.

Cryptocurrency market capitulation is understood as a period where investors aggressively sell their assets of one or several currencies in particular, due to various factors such as sudden price drops, high volatility, and large sales volumes.

A collapse in prices is a factor that significantly affects the capitulation of the cryptocurrency market. If a crypto, from one moment to the next, sees its value hit violently, many will try to sell their assets in this currency to reduce the impact on their funds.

Although volatility is a major feature of the crypto market, when it reaches a level where forecasting becomes inaccurate, investors look to sell their coins and switch to other, more conservative assets, as a way to protect their funds.

An increase in sales volumes motivates investors to capitulate in their assets, which no longer provide them with the same value.

On April 27, TradingView featured a critical alert from crypto analyst Alan Santana, who outlined a bleak forecast for Bitcoin in the coming days and months.

According to Santana, Bitcoin is primed for a major capitulation event, which could fall to around $30,000. This post explores Santana’s predictions, methodology, and implications for investors.

Understanding the Capitulation Fall to $30,000

Alan Santana uses a simple calculation to predict Bitcoin’s potential capitulation price. By averaging Bitcoin’s trading range over the last month and a half, which he estimates at approximately $66,600, and then halving this figure, Santana arrives at a potential capitulation point of around $33,300. However, his broader prediction focuses on a drop to around $30,000.

Timing and Impact of the Fall

Santana notes that May, which is typically a challenging month for cryptocurrencies after a spike, could see this major price adjustment. He attributes the likely timing to recent Bitcoin price behavior: trading at all-time highs and entering a distribution phase that lasts almost two months. Despite the possibility of those phases extending up to six months, Santana believes the recent halving will accelerate capitulation.

Market Indicators and Technical Observations

Volume and RSI. Signals that volume continues to decline while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) weakens daily, indicating a loss of bullish momentum.

EMA Levels. Bitcoin’s failure to sustain above The exponential moving average (EMA), particularly EMA10/21 and EMA50, supports its bearish outlook. On April 24, Bitcoin broke below the EMA50 again, which Santana interprets as confirmation of a strong short-term bearish bias.

Bull Market Recovery and Forecast

Despite the severe expected decline, Santana is optimistic about Bitcoin’s long-term prospects. He predicts a rapid recovery after the capitulation, suggesting that Bitcoin could recover 30% to 50% from the flash lows before beginning a slow climb.

This rally, which will begin around $45,000, will manifest as gradual but sustained growth over 6 to 8 months, eventually accelerating in the first and second quarters of 2025 towards new all-time highs.

Strategic Advice for Investors

Santana advises investors to prepare for both capitulation and the subsequent bull market. It suggests that now is the time to plan, whether through financial calculations or mental preparation, buying opportunities at the bottom and selling at the top of the bullish wave.

Their analysis points to significant volatility, but also significant profit potential for those who are prepared. At the time of writing (1:55 pm UTC on April 28), Bitcoin is trading at around $63,736, up 0.8% over the last 24-hour period.

Ripple Lawsuit Against the SEC Update: What to Expect Next Week

Ripple argues that the SEC’s allegations are baseless and lack adequate evidence.

Last week, the legal battle between Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) progressed to trial, with many expecting a resolution soon.

Attorney James K. Filan announced a new schedule from Judge Sarah Netburn, focused on the motion for relief and final sentencing. The SEC must respond by April 29 and Ripple has three business days to respond.

A Crucial Week for Ripple and SEC

Judge Sarah Netburn has set a timeline for the ongoing lawsuit between Ripple Labs and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This timeline is related to Ripple’s attempt to dismiss the SEC’s latest expert evidence intended to support its argument for sanctions and a final ruling.

Judge Netburn has granted the SEC an extension until April 29, 2024 to present its counterarguments to Ripple’s motion. Ripple will have three business days to respond.

This scheduling update follows the recent appointment of Judge Netburn as district judge in the Southern District of New York. Despite her new role, she is still the judge presiding over the Ripple vs. SEC case, where she is noted for her impartial decisions that are generally viewed positively by the crypto community.

“My understanding about XRP is that not only does it have a monetary value, but it also has a utility, and that utility distinguishes it from bitcoin and ether,” the judge said in 2021 (according to attorney Jeremy Hogan).

XRP has challenged the SEC’s request for substantial civil penalties. The blockchain payments company has responded to the SEC’s demand for a hefty fine, instead proposing a maximum fine of $10 million. According to Ripple, the SEC’s allegations are baseless and lack adequate evidence.

The Expected Result

Ripple representative Bill Morgan has continually argued for the past three years that sales of Ripple On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) do not constitute investment contracts. According to Morgan, the nature of ODL transactions is different from that of traditional investments.

He notes that customers use XRP only for a few seconds to enable cross-border payments, rather than for investment purposes. Ripple highlights that the SEC has not demonstrated any likelihood of future violations or reckless disregard in its XRP sales and cites the Govil case to dispute the SEC’s claw back claim, highlighting the lack of evidence of financial harm. Hogan recently forecasted that the lawsuit could conclude this summer, predicting a $100 million settlement, in the following terms:

“I think the judge won’t order any refund, but he will throw a bone at the SEC by imposing a fine of 100 million dollars on Ripple.”

Previously, the SEC had demanded a $2 billion fine from Ripple, citing violations in certain XRP sales. Ripple responded by stating that XRP should not be classified as a security, arguing that it does not fall within the SEC’s regulatory scope.

The company’s chief legal officer, Stuart Alderoty, presented several key reasons why the fine should not exceed $10 million.

The implications of this SEC lawsuit against Ripple extend beyond the court. A victory for Ripple could not only vindicate the company, but also provide a clearer regulatory framework for other crypto entities.

On the other hand, a victory for the SEC could lead to increased regulatory scrutiny and potentially stifle innovation in the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency space.

Path to Approval? First Ethereum Spot ETF Hits DTCC Website

Franklin Templeton’s relisting on the DTCC platform comes amid the SEC’s ongoing deliberations regarding the approval of Ethereum spot ETFs.

Franklin Templeton’s Ethereum Spot ETF ticker has appeared on the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) listing, indicating a possible sign that the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) could approve Ethereum ETFs.

Franklin Templeton’s Ethereum Spot ETF Listed by DTCC

On Friday, April 26, American multinational investment firm Franklin Templeton’s proposed Ethereum Spot ETF made its debut on the official DTCC website, under the symbol EZET.

The $1.5 trillion asset management firm had filed the S-1 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Feb. 12 to apply for a spot Ethereum (ETH) ETF. It would be listed as “Franklin Ethereum ETF” on the Chicago Options Exchange if approved.

In early January, following the approval and launch of Bitcoin spot ETFs, many analysts anticipated the emergence of additional cryptocurrency ETFs, with speculation centering that Ethereum would be next to receive an ETF after Bitcoin.

However, despite prominent financial services companies such as BlackRock, Grayscale, VanEck, Fidelity and others filing applications for an Ethereum Spot ETF, US SEC approval has been consistently delayed.

The regulatory agency revealed in a recent filing on Tuesday, April 23 that it would designate a longer period to decide its appropriate mode of action regarding the Spot Ethereum ETF proposed by Franklin Templeton and Grayscale. The commission had scheduled June 11 as the new deadline to approve or reject the Ethereum Spot ETF proposals.

This move appears to be anticipated by other cryptocurrency and finance experts in the industry, as Standard Chartered analysts and VanEck CEO Jan Van Eck had previously expressed skepticism about the likelihood of the US SEC authorize Ethereum spot ETFs soon.

Is the New Listing a Sign of Imminent Approval?

The recent addition of Franklin Templeton’s proposed Ethereum Spot ETF to the DTCC listing is considered an initial step in the trading process and does not guarantee approval from the SEC, which has the exclusive authority to greenlight or reject such investment products.

Prior to the approval of the Spot Bitcoin ETFs, the DTCC had listed BlackRock’s previously proposed Spot Bitcoin ETF on its platform, fueling speculation and raising hopes of possible SEC approval. However, the clearing and settlement firm later removed BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF from its platform, clarifying that the listing did not imply SEC endorsement of Bitcoin spot ETF applications.

Amid anticipation of the approval of an Ethereum spot ETF, the US SEC has remained ambiguous about its position. Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas also revealed in early March that the odds of approving an Ethereum ETF were just 25%, reflecting a rather pessimistic outlook. He also mentioned that SEC Chairman Gary Gensler’s stance on Ether could impact the decision process, as Gensler has refused to clarify whether or not Ether is a security.

Other analysts are more optimistic. JPMorgan analysts expect the SEC to eventually approve an Ethereum spot ETF, although they suggest this development could be extended and occur as a result of an eventual legal challenge, similar to the Grayscale lawsuit that forced the SEC to re-examine the Bitcoin Spot ETF.

Overall, the broader crypto market is still closely monitoring developments surrounding the Ethereum Spot ETF applications from Franklin Templeton and other financial firms along with the SEC’s final decision, recognizing a potential approval as an important step forward in the digital asset sector.

Bitcoin Whales Increase Accumulation Percentage

During this just-ended week, Bitcoin whales noticeably increased the trend towards accumulation by +3.34% week-on-week. However, overall volume saw a sharp decline and arbitrage remained the preferred activity.

This week, the price of BTC remained relatively stable until recent days, when a period of decline began. The latter was linked to macroeconomic data from the United States, which highlighted a slowdown in GDP and persistent inflation.

Bitcoin Whale Activity This Week

Bitcoin whales increased the accumulation trend. This is the fourth consecutive week of increase in the percentage of shipments to unknown wallets. Meanwhile, total volume decreased sharply compared to the previous week. Thus, from 715,000, the volume dropped to 555,000 between April 20 and 26.

24.32% of the coins (135,000 BTC) were sent from the centralized exchanges to the unknown wallets in a total of 300 transactions. The largest amount of coins, 45,000 BTC, came from Binance.

15.32% of the coins (85,000 BTC) were sent from unknown wallets to exchange wallets in a total of 220 transactions. This trend is considered as a possible sale. The largest receiving exchange was Binance with 30,000 BTC of this total.

37.84% of the coins (210,000 BTC) were distributed between wallets of various centralized exchanges. This type of transaction is for arbitrage purposes to take advantage of price differentials between different platforms. 480 transactions were reported here. The largest exit route was from Binance to Kraken with 40,000 BTC. Second, the route from Coinbase to Binance processed 35,000 BTC.

Finally, 22.52% of the coins (125,000 BTC) were sent mysteriously between different unknown wallets. Here, Bitcoin whales made 350 transactions.

This Week’s Additional Information of Interest

As the data suggests, the arbitrage trend remains strong as the whales’ favorite activity. For the sixth week in a row, these investors are betting on moving currencies between the CEX. Below, we present other interesting data from the last 7 days.

Monday, April 22, was the day with the highest number of shipments from exchanges to unknown wallets. During that day, the whales sent 35,000 BTC towards the accumulation. Of the total of 300 transactions from exchanges to unknown wallets, 95 were operated from Binance alone. The second place of departures went to Kraken with 50 and the podium was closed by Coinbase with 40 transactions.

The day of greatest selling pressure was Sunday, April 21, when 25,000 BTC were sent from unknown wallets to exchanges. The largest recipient of transactions that week was Binance with 65, followed by Kraken and Coinbase with 40 and 30, respectively.

April 22 was also the day of largest trading between wallets of different exchanges, with a volume of 60,000 BTC.

As can be seen, Bitcoin whales maintain their commitment to arbitrage in the absence of catalysts that demarcate an upward trend for the price of the currency.

Bitcoin Forecast

According to CryptoPredictions, Bitcoin started in April 2024 at $135.300 and is predicted to finish the month at $68,596.892. During April, the maximum forecasted BTC price is $68,259.996 and the minimum price is $135.300.

The BTC Price is forecasted for today (28.04.2024) to be in the $56,609.085 – $83,248.655 price range. Bitcoin is predicted to end today at $66,598.924.

Bitcoin is predicted to start in May 2024 at $68,302.039 and finish the month at $62,350.280. During May, the maximum forecasted BTC price is $68,302.039 and the minimum price is $46,445.386.

Ethereum: Vitalik Buterin Supports Transition to Proof-of-Stake (PoS)

Vitalik Buterin has responded to community concerns about the network transition from PoW to PoS. Buterin highlighted the need and benefits of this change, citing concerns about the centralization of PoW. Despite Ethereum’s successful transition to PoS, regulatory scrutiny persists, particularly from the SEC.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has responded to community concerns about the network’s transition from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).

Over the past week, Ethereum’s PoS transition has faced scrutiny from community members, particularly amid concerns that it prompted increased scrutiny from US regulators.

The co-founder and main developer of Ethereum highlighted that the goal for the network was always to use a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm, and that the fact that it started from Proof-of-Work (PoW) It was something that was considered transitory at the time.

Was the Transition from Ethereum to Proof-of-Stake a Mistake?

Since its launch in July 2015, Ethereum operated with a PoW consensus mechanism similar to Bitcoin. In PoW, participants compete to solve crypto algorithms, requiring considerable computing power and energy to validate each block on the blockchain.

Concern over the environmental impact of PoW cryptocurrencies led authorities in several countries to advocate for their ban in favor of more sustainable alternatives. In September 2022, Ethereum developers began a major transition known as “The Merge,” moving to a PoS infrastructure.

This monumental change replaced miners with stakers, addressing environmental concerns and aligning with Ethereum’s long-term goals. Vitalik Buterin underlined the importance of this transition, highlighting the centralization of PoW and its temporary nature before the implementation of PoS. Buterin states the following:

“PoW was also quite centralized. It was just not talked about as much, because everyone knew it was only a temporary stage until PoS.

And that doesn’t even get into how we probably mostly avoided ASICs only because the upcoming PoS switch meant no incentive to build them.”

Hand in hand with these statements, Buterin published a graph showing the distribution of mining activity for the Ethereum network under the PoW system, showing that only Spark Pool, Ethermine and F2Pool together capitalized 65% of the processing power.

Since the transition to a PoS chain was completed, Ethereum has witnessed an increase in the number of validators and staking demand. More than 25% of the circulating supply of ETH has been staked, improving network security and providing returns to participants.

Concerns about PoS

Since the operational switch to PoS was made in September 2022 with The Merge, a significant sector of the Ethereum community has criticized the change to the consensus algorithm for various reasons, mainly considering concerns about the possible centralization of block processing in network.

Another of the harshest criticisms had to do with the mining population whose devices could now not be used to mine ETH. Following the arrival of The Merge, groups of miners pushed to implement and continue supporting an alternate version of the Ethereum network that operated under PoW, but despite some traction for a few months, the ETHPOW initiative failed to maintain enough support as to be considered a viable alternative.

More on the Ethereum Transition

Ethereum staking has drawn scrutiny from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). SEC Chairman Gary Gensler suggested that PoW cryptocurrencies that allow staking could meet the criteria for securities under the Howey test.

The uncertainty surrounding the regulatory status of Ethereum remains relevant, impacting compliance efforts for entities dealing with ETH.

PayPal Will Reward Bitcoin Miners for Using Green Energy

Payments giant PayPal, in collaboration with Energy Web and DMG Blockchain Solutions, has announced its approach to promoting environmentally sustainable practices in Bitcoin mining. This initiative proposes to independently reward miners with BTC when they verifiably use a significant portion of low-carbon energy sources in their mining operations.

PayPal’s Blockchain Research Group has developed a platform to verify the carbon footprint of miners and reward those who use green energy sources. Which will receive special “green keys”, associated with their public keys, paying fewer fees and obtaining additional rewards in Bitcoin.

These rewards will remain locked until claimed, motivating miners to adopt renewable energy sources in exchange for additional incentives in Bitcoin.

Former Binance CEO Could Receive Three-Year Prison Sentence

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) faces a possible 3-year prison sentence, as recommended by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), after admitting guilt for violating money laundering laws.

In this regard, prosecutors indicated that “Taking into account the magnitude of Zhao’s deliberate violation of United States law and its consequences, a sentence above the 36-month guidelines is justified.”

Zhao’s lawyers asked the court for a probation sentence, arguing that “no defendant in a remotely similar BSA case has been sentenced to prison.” They also assure that CZ does not present any risk of recidivism, and propose that he be sentenced to probation instead of prison. Therefore, we will have to wait for the hearing for his sentence on April 30.
