A new South Park futuristic movie shows Bitcoin as the leading payment medium in 40 years. One of the characters says that they only accept payments with cryptocurrencies to avoid bank manipulation.

A recent South Park movie set in 2061 shows that the United States only accepts payments with cryptocurrencies. Of course, the primary medium to buy and sell things is the pioneering cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC).

Like The Simpsons, South Park is a dark humor animated series for adults famous for predicting future events. For that reason, after the release, many people commented on social networks that world citizens would remember that chapter in 40 years.

People Will Accept Payments with Cryptocurrencies in 40 Years

A scene from the movie shows Stan, one of the protagonists, who enters a hotel and reserves a room for one night. The receptionist who attends to him responds that they only accept payments with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies since it is the future.

That character adds that all people agreed that there is manipulation within centralized banking. Expressing no surprise, Stan responds that he knows, implying that using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is a common way to move money without intermediaries.

South Park Portrays the Controversy between Banks and Cryptocurrencies

Since its inception in 1997, South Park has distinguished itself by being at the center of controversy. From a comic satirical approach, it recreates scenes where current social problems in the United States are masked.

Whenever there is a sensitive issue like that of economy, there goes South Park. Therefore, it was just a matter of time before they spoke about cryptocurrencies. Some regulators in the United States believe that banks should integrate those assets into their services to avoid remaining out of the industry.

Several non-bank companies and decentralized finance platforms offer loans with cryptocurrencies, such as Spanish firm BitBase. Jelena McWilliams, president of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), recognizes that banking institutions are missing the opportunity of offering that growing service.

Bitcoin Will Be the New Convention for the Value of Things

Recent studies reveal that the outlook that South Park predicts may occur earlier than expected. A report from Blockdata shows that the Bitcoin network may exceed the volume of money handled by Visa and MasterCard in 2026. Spanish economist Gael Sánchez Smith also believes that the market will set the prices of products and services in Bitcoin and not in US dollars.

Sánchez Smith explains that people create conventions to assess things. He explains that, just as people invented degrees to measure temperature and time, Bitcoin is the new convention for the value of things.

The Simpsons Have Also Predicted the Use of Bitcoin

The best predictions made by The Simpsons include the victory of Germany in the 2014 World Cup and the COVID-19 pandemic. Some might jokingly suggest that the Minister of Health should watch the Simpsons and identify threats.

The Simpsons have predicted aspects of the future that affect the cryptocurrency community. In 1997, they foresaw the emergence of crypto-powered virtual currencies, indicating that Bitcoin was the future.
