Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies This Week

0

Recovery in the cryptocurrency sector stalled in the last week of trading.

The Bitcoin price reached a new high for the year at $31,525, and Ethereum (ETH) was also able to continue its rally with a rise to $1,978. Overall, the crypto market moved sideways, following the US S&P500 and Nasdaq100 stock indices, which had to give back their gains after a strong first half of the week on inconsistent labor market data.

Renewed deadlock over SEC approval of early spot ETF applications may have acted as a drag on Bitcoin and Co. price developments. Although the key cryptocurrency was able to stabilize again above the psychological mark of $30,000 in the prior week, the buyer side has yet to get out on a sustainable basis.

This trading week will open with new economic data from the People’s Republic of China. With the release of quarterly figures from major US banks JP Morgan and Citigroup, the new reporting season for the second quarter of trading is slowly picking up speed.

Chinese Consumer and Producer Prices

Today at 03:30 (CET) the People’s Republic publishes the new inflation data for the month of June. In a monthly comparison, negative consumer prices are expected to rise slightly from -0.2 percent to 0.0 percent.

If consumer prices in China fall short of forecasts, as they have in the past four months of trading, China’s central bank PBOC is likely to continue its loose monetary policy to stimulate the economy. If the opposite scenario takes place, this would be the first warning sign of a possible turn in the inflation data in the direction of rising prices at consumer.

Mid-Week US Consumer Prices

Midweek, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the latest US inflation data for the month of June. Market experts expect a further drop to 3.1 percent. If analysts’ expectations are met or even undermined, the chances of a pause in the Fed’s rate tightening at the end of July improve.

If, contrary to expectations, the core inflation rate rises in June, investors could divest more and more of risky asset classes such as the cryptocurrency sector, as the possibility that the US Federal Reserve. US increases interest rates further. According to the CME surveillance tool, the probability of this happening now stands at 92.4 percent.

Gross Domestic Product in the US

This Thursday at 2:30 p.m. (CET) the latest advances in US gross domestic product for the first quarter of 2023 will be presented. Although preliminary forecasts of 1.3 percent growth were once again slightly above estimates of 1.1 percent, they are still well below the final figures for the last quarter of the previous year.

Analysts once again slightly raised the latest estimates of 1.4 percent, which, if true, will indicate at least a stabilization of the US economy. If not, the US financial market is likely to react negatively, so Bitcoin’s course could consolidate as a result and lose steam.

Consumer Expectations and US Consumer Confidence at the End of the Week

This Friday at 16:00 (CET), market participants check the preliminary releases on consumer confidence and consumer expectations for private households for July.

If the improvement in consumer confidence is confirmed and even exceeds the forecasts of the experts, a positive reaction in the financial markets can be expected.

If, on the other hand, consumer confidence falls against expectations and is below analysts’ expectations, the market is likely to react with price cuts.

Weekly Report: Bitcoin Whales Slowed Down

Bitcoin whales have come down from the high volume of trading they displayed in June.

This week, the Bitcoin whales pulled back from the strong pace of trading that they displayed over the previous three weeks. However, the average trend of remittances to centralized exchange (CEX) wallets remained largely intact.

In addition, the price of Bitcoin closed above $30,000 per coin for another week, while analysts remain divided. BlackRock’s effect on the major currency appears to be holding up, especially considering Larry Fink’s constant flirtations with the currency. The BTC price seems not to advance and that probably influenced the mood of the whales.

The results based on the sum of bitcoins traded in transactions of 400 BTC or more are analyzed below, considering data from Whale Alert and the WhaleBot Alerts Telegram bot. which can be verified online.

To recall, there are four possible types of Bitcoin whale fund movements. These are: orders from exchanges to unknown wallets (accumulation), between unknown wallets, from unknown wallets to exchanges (possible liquidation), and between exchange wallets.

Only two of the abovementioned movements have a significant aspect in the price of the cryptocurrency. These are accumulation and possible liquidation. The word “possible” is used since not all transactions to exchanges are for the purpose of selling. Despite this, all sales originate from the transfer to the exchanges.

The Slowdown of Bitcoin Whales

Bitcoin whales slowed down their trading pace this week, which coincides with the price movements of the pioneering digital currency. During the month of June, large holders moved large amounts of coins to take advantage of the bullish movement.

However, stagnation gripped the market and again the big traders slowed down. During this week, the difference in the number of coins moved was noticeable compared to the previous three weeks.

In fact, the average number of bitcoins moved during the last 3 weeks is 430,545 BTC per week. This means that the decrease of this first week of July with respect to that average is -40.43%.

Said figure shows how sensitive the timing of the trading mood of the Bitcoin whales is with the price. The value of the coin, since the early June boost, was stuck at 30k. Since then, as shown in the graph above, the trade volume for whales began to decline markedly for four straight weeks until the past week.

Whales’ Movement This Week

Taking into account that the Bitcoin whales slowed down their trading, it can be said that this is a clearly drawn trend. The week just beginning is likely to show a magnitude similar to this, of course depending on what happens with the market.

In any case, this week, the whales moved a total of 174,059 BTC. Of that amount, 100,999 bitcoins were sent to exchange wallets, representing 58.03% of the weekly total. In this regard, the percentage relationship is almost identical to that of last week, which was 57.97%.

On the other hand, some 66,174 coins were sent to accumulation wallets, which is equivalent to 38.02% of the total. This is a decrease compared to the 40.99% of the previous week. Meanwhile, shipments between exchange portfolios reached a total of 6,886 BTC, which represents 3.96% of all currencies traded.

With these available data, it can be said that the Bitcoin whales slowed down, but the percentage of movements up or down remains.

Gemini Files Lawsuit for ‘Fraud Against Creditors’ of DCG and Genesis

Gemini has filed an explosive legal claim against Digital Currency Group (DCG) and its CEO, Barry Silbert. The Winklevoss twins exchange accuses DCG and Silbert of fraud and deceit, as well as of misleading creditors. Cameron Winklevoss argues that the companies used a DCG promissory note to hide Genesis’ insolvency.

Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by the Winklevoss brothers, has filed a legal claim against Digital Currency Group (DCG) and its CEO and founder, Barry Silbert.

In a July 7 Twitter thread, Gemini’s Cameron Winklevoss accused DCG and its CEO, Barry Silbert, of fraud and deception. According to Winklevoss, DCG and Silbert were involved in a scheme to hide Genesis’ insolvency and deceive creditors. DCG is the parent company of Genesis. Silbert allegedly hid a “huge hole in Genesis’ balance sheet”

Cameron Winklevoss previously threatened to sue Silbert and DCG for repayment of a $900 million loan, after Genesis filed for bankruptcy. Gemini had a close connection to Genesis and directed investors to the platform through its Gemini Earn division.

Details of the Lawsuit

In the complaint, Winklevoss claimed that when Gemini decided to cancel its Earn program in October 2022, Silbert contacted Gemini to convince the exchange to continue with the program. “He did that knowing that Genesis was grossly insolvent,” Winklevoss said.

Genesis, the lender, powered the Gemini Exchange’s Earn program, offering depositors returns of up to 8%. Depositors entrusted their funds to Genesis, which then lent them to generate interest for Gemini clients.

Actually, Genesis had a huge financial hole caused by the collapse of Three Arrows Capital (3AC). Instead of being honest about the losses, Genesis and DCG devised a ruse, according to the complaint.

DCG allegedly pretended that it had absorbed Genesis’s losses and handed over a ten-year note with a low interest rate. Genesis told its creditors and depositors that its parent company, DCG, had “absorbed” 3AC’s losses.

“This was a carefully crafted lie,” Winklevoss tweeted on July 7: “Barry claimed that Genesis faced only a timing issue – a lie that hid the gaping hole on Genesis’s balance sheet. pic.twitter.com/4JW8aucCOB.”

DCG, Genesis “Conspired” against the Creditors

Gemini’s complaint alleges that the promissory note was simply an accounting trick. Designed to make it look like the struggling company has positive capital. In doing so, Genesis appeared solvent without DCG actually having to provide the cash.

Winklevoss alleged that Genesis and DCG conspired to make false financial reports, misrepresenting the value of the note. They allegedly then hid this from Gemini and other creditors.

In addition, he accused DCG executives, including Mark Murphy (then COO and current president), of being aware of the hoax and failing to correct the false reports.

The complaint provides multiple “falsified” balances that appear to show DCG and Genesis attempting to hide their financial difficulties. According to Winklevoss, this fraud involves the “direct involvement” and cooperation of Barry Silbert, DCG and Genesis.

DCG responded on Twitter within hours, calling the legal action “yet another publicity stunt… to deflect blame and responsibility.” The firm denied any suggestion of wrongdoing and confirmed that it expected Genesis’ Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to be concluded soon.

In January, the SEC named Genesis and Gemini in a complaint accusing the pair of offering and selling unregistered securities through the Gemini’s Earn program. In May, Gemini tried to have the complaint dismissed, arguing that it was beyond the regulator’s purview.

Five Top News from the Crypto Space in the Last Seven Days

Bitcoin ETF applications forwarded, NFT claimants hacked, and Israel seizes Crypto: these are some of the crypto news of the week.

Another exciting week in the crypto space is drawing to a close. Details of the most important events around Bitcoin, Ethereum and Co. are presented below:

  • BlackRock, Fidelity and Co. resubmit Bitcoin ETF applications.
  • Solana on the rise thanks to the participation platform.
  • There is Bitcoin in this DAO for 10,000 euros.
  • NFT plaintiffs sue publisher and get hacked.
  • Cryptocurrencies are seized in the Middle East.

BlackRock, Fidelity and Co. Resubmit Bitcoin ETF Applications

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and its boss, Gary Gensler, are very busy. Unless rumors spread that the agency chief’s chair has been cut, left-right spot bitcoin ETF applications should be rejected. That’s what happened late last week. According to the SEC, the applications from institutional giants such as BlackRock and Fidelity are “insufficient” and must be refiled.

Fidelity, WisdomTree, VanEck, and Ark Invest already submitted their Bitcoin Spot ETF applications last weekend. BlackRock followed soon after.

Solana On the Rise Due to the Participation Platform

Solana is currently experiencing a resurgence in the betting business. The hype surrounding liquid staking token funding (LSTfi) is bringing a breath of fresh air to the “world’s fastest Blockchain”.

However, the fun turns dangerous as soon as the price difference between the “real” SOL tokens and the derivatives starts to grow. If the price of Marinade-SOL (mSOL) falls drastically compared to the main asset, the traders will be liquidated.

In this DAO there is Bitcoin for 10,000 Euros

Bitcoin the climate killer: that is the common image in the media. However, a change has been going on behind the scenes for years. Bitcoin is about to become a driving force in the energy transition. Environmentally conscious, climate friendly, determined: green miners are on the rise around the world.

The Green Mining DAO, founded by six pioneers, is currently a small institution in the field of ReFi. The term stands for regenerative finance, a growing social movement. Their hope is to use cryptocurrencies to promote the adoption of renewable energy, also mining Bitcoin.

With more than 20 members, they have been operating a bitcoin mining facility in Paraguay since early 2023. It has become a flourishing oasis between high-tech and nature.

Miners use resources from the environment for cooling, filtered air, and water. The resulting heat will be used to dry fruit and grow algae. The plant is built in such a way that it is hardly noticeable in nature – green and calm.

NFT Plaintiffs Sue Publisher and Get Hacked

The plaintiffs came together to coordinate a lawsuit against the publishers of the Elementals NFTs. But instead of getting a $38 million refund, the hackers stole another 35 ETH from the DAO, which was only days old. Equivalent: US$70,000. However, this does not prevent the group from taking action against the project team.

Seized Cryptocurrencies in the Middle East

On June 28, according to a statement by Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on June 28, the country’s National Counter-Terrorism Bureau (NBCTF) seized $1.7 million in cryptocurrency from accounts believed to belong to Hezbollah and Iran’s Quds Brigade.

Israel and some other countries, including Germany and the US, classify the groups as terrorist organizations. In addition to the Israeli secret service, Blockchain forensics experts from Chainalysis and various cryptocurrency exchanges also participated in the measures.
