Parallel Project and New Cryptocurrency Announced by IOTA Co-Founder

Sergey Ivancheglo said that the new proposal will keep the name IOTA, since he was its creator. He talked about using “IOBA” to call the current version of the IOTA Foundation.

Sergey Ivancheglo, Co-founder of IOTA and Former Director of the IOTA Foundation, added to the controversy surrounding the IOTA project. He recently announced his plans to create a parallel project and a new cryptocurrency. The developer questioned the organization’s decisions and said that he has the right to use the name IOTA in his new proposal.

Ivancheglo, known as “Come from Beyond” (CFB) in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, explained that he seeks to avoid confusion by identifying the IOTA Foundation version as IOBA, since “binary” starts with b and his own with the original name IOTA. Even though this proposal is theoretically a hard fork, he explained that it is not a classic fork or an initial coin offering (ICO), but a 1:1 exchange rate between both cryptocurrencies.

As an argument to completely separate from the original project, the programmer listed some changes with which he disagrees. Two of them are the support of cryptographic algorithms that would not be immune to quantum computers and the elimination of packets due to having atomic transfers of variable size.

CFB talked about the possible exchanges between the holders of MIOBA, “current MIOTA” according to Ivancheglo, and MIOTA, as a new cryptocurrency of his project. He also mentioned that these changes would be possible after the software that implements the IOTA protocol is ready. He highlighted that the 1:1 exchanges would not take into account the trading price of both cryptocurrencies on the market.

Even though the holders of (m)iobas obtain the same amount of (m)iotas, this is not a classic “fork”. To dispose of inactive addresses, David Sønstebø (65 Ti) and the IOTA Foundation (16 Ti) are controlling some of their iotas. Ivancheglo added that both entities are unwelcome to join the original IOTA as their actions led to the need for the creation of the exchange and gave rise to other problems.

The users expressed their opinion about this situation through their Twitter accounts. Among them is Peter Farla, who said that it was very confusing and would not work. He even asked if there was a roadmap, a website, or a white book to be able to understand it.

Similarly, user @easygoiiing questioned CFB’s plans, asking him about his plans to make his token a success. He commented that IOTA has built a lot in recent years, not only the technology but also adoption. He said that just a name does not make a brand, so he suggested not raising commotion over the name IOTA.

The conflicts between CFB and David Sønstebø, another of IOTA co-founders, have existed since July 2019, when the first decided to withdraw from the project. However, their differences have widened to such an extent that CFB opened last February the possibility for a legal battle to start as he is requiring Sønstebø to pay 25,000,000 MIOTA.

Ethereum Market Fall May Have Its Origin in Whales

Last month, the price of Ether has fallen from USD 240 to USD 194 per unit. Before the bearish market started, the Ethereum whales had mobilized funds to exchange houses.

According to a study by Santiment, the major whales in the Ethereum market moved a large number of crypto coins. At the same time, a significant drop in the price of Ether was occurring.

The study, published on March 4th, revealed that the top 100 Ethereum holders, not including exchange houses, currently have a greater capacity to influence the market. This is because a high percentage of the total number of ethers that they have is in circulation.

In Santiment’s graph, it is possible to see how the blue line, which represents the whales in the market, has a greater predominance than the yellow line, which represents exchange houses. This particularly occurs in key moments when the price of the cryptocurrency has produced important fluctuations.

Journey Driven by Ether Whales

Since October 2019, Ether has encountered a bearish trend that brought the price of the cryptocurrency to USD 120 last December 17th. During all this time, the whales, holders that own a large number of cryptocoins, concentrated a large percentage of the total ethers in circulation.

According to the analysis, this occurs when the whales and the market feel that the price is undervalued, which creates bullish expectations. This market behavior could be related to the price of Ether at the beginning of 2020, when an increase was reported that brought Ether to USD 280 last February 14th.

However, exchange houses began to have an increasingly growing percentage of the total market in circulation since January 15th, which means that whales were directing their volume of cryptocoins to exchange houses. After that date, the price of Ether has been falling continuously until today.

Market Whales Took Their Gains

According to the data provided by the Santiment team, the drop in the price of Ether last March 8th may be due to the sale of ethers that whales had previously made.

Before and after the fall in the price of Ether, several whales in the market mobilized their cryptocoins to exchange houses. These institutions could be the catalyst for the movement that led Ether from USD 238 to USD 198 in less than a day.

The Santiment team said that they had taken a deep dive to observe the recent behavior of the addresses with the largest amount of Ethereum and Chainlink. The objective was to see what the whales are currently doing in the cryptocurrency market. In the case of Ether, whales have been mobilizing their wallets to exchange houses, immediately after the market crash.

The analysis conducted by the Santiment team allowed obtaining data that can be compared to the scenarios that the market has presented so far in 2020. This leads to conclude that the study of the behavior of whales is a way to understand the reason for recent fluctuations in the cryptocurrency market.

Auction System in DeFi MakerDAO Altered by Drop in Ether’s Price

Auction System in DeFi MakerDAO Altered by Drop in Ether’s Price

The platform liquidated Ether collaterals with zero-dollar bids last March 12th. Maker is investigating what happened but it ruled out attacks or errors.

The rapid fall of the cryptocurrency market last March 12th affected the decentralized finance platform MakerDAO, with a 32% drop in the price of Ether (ETH). The cryptocurrency went from USD 144 to USD 95 in a matter of hours, altering its auction system of Ether collaterals, which users acquired with zero-dollar bids.

Users denounced that “free” funds went to the operators of the system based on the DAI token, a crypto asset that operates under the ERC-20 protocol of the Ethereum network. Twitter user @ercwl questioned what had happened, despite not knowing the causes.

Another Twitter user, Eric Wall, reported that some ETH collaterals in @MakerDAO were liquidated for USD 0, without apparent reason. He explained that this Ether can only be bought with DAI and there were no DAI offers. Mr. Wall believes that it could be a liquidity problem or a connectivity/GAS problem with the maintenance software.

Also, Eric Wall clarified that the liquidation of Ether for USD 0 means that someone received it for “free”. He said that miners might have done this by censoring those bids, but these auctions only last 10 minutes. He concludes that it would be a pretty serious censorship attack but there is no evidence.

Udi Wertheimer stated that there were a lot of liquidations of Maker (MKR) on March 12th, which is normal and expected. What is not normal and expected is, given that this information is correct, that people were able to buy the liquidated collateral for free.

MakerDAO stated on March 12th saying that the steep drop in the price of Ether stressed the Maker protocol, the community, the Maker Foundation, and the entire Ethereum DeFi ecosystem. The organization indicated that these circumstances allowed some users (guardians) to bid close to 0 DAI for lots of 50 ETH collaterals.

During the drop in the price of Ether, a Maker oracle was slow to provide the most current price. Even though it was unintentional, it had the side effect of helping Maker’s vaults to remain overcollateralized. This gave some users enough time to add collaterals to avoid liquidation.

A release indicated that the current state of the Maker protocol is healthy, with no detection of hacking or internal errors. Besides, it did not report any plans to turn off the platform for what happened, but the need to make certain modifications.

The fall in the prices of Ether, and crypto currencies, in general, technically affected the MakerDAO platform. However, the market, in general, has also been in the red this week due to the global expansion of the coronavirus pandemic. In the case of Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency fell to USD 4700 per unit last March 12th.

MakerDAO is a decentralized system that uses its DAI token, with a 1:1 parity with the US dollar. However, it employs a collateralization ratio, which has to be 150% or more, with the cryptocurrency Ether. In other words, the price of each DAI is fixed with a deposit in Ether to a smart contract called CDP (Guaranteed Debt Position). Depending on the collateral amount deposited, a certain amount of DAI is generated.

Effects of Black Monday on Price of Bitcoin

Last “Black Monday” led many to wonder whether Bitcoin’s price will rise or fall when the dust settles. If the coronavirus becomes worse, users need to know what could happen.

Last March 9th, humanity experienced a new “Black Monday”, where the world market went from being in the green to being in the red. Bitcoin (BTC) was also in the red, which leads to the question of whether the price of the cryptocurrency will increase or decrease once the dust settles.

Maybe the new coronavirus epidemic is not entirely to blame. However, many experts agree that it has allowed investors to realize the seriousness of the situation.

Oil prices fell by 30%, at the same time as Asian stock exchanges dropped by 6% to 7%. In the morning, the indices of the western world collapsed between 8% and 10%.

Thousands and billions of USD dollars disappeared overnight, not solely for the coronavirus but also for 11 years of virtually uninterrupted growth. The indiscriminate issuance of fiat money by both the USA and the European Union has characterized this period.

News reports on Latin America in recent years show that its traditional economy is not doing well. Everyone is undergoing a similar situation, from European savers suffering negative bank interest rates to Asian savers experiencing very low and even negative inflation rates.

Bitcoin is Getting Ready

Unlike the previous global economic crisis, humanity now has Bitcoin. However, it might still be necessary to prevent many people from losing their homes and life savings. This occurs due to the mismanagement of central entities, which play with users’ money as if it were theirs.

All the inhabitants of this ecosystem must try to save as much of it as possible. Something else that worries everyone is the fact that Bitcoin should be an alternative to the traditional system and the crises of the system.

Unfortunately, the main cryptocurrency has moved in unison with the trends of the traditional world market. Regarding the possibility that Bitcoin’s price will rise or fall, users need to know what to expect in the short or medium-term if the effect of the coronavirus becomes worse.

BTC will Fall

The last few weeks have been difficult for Bitcoin as the bullish trend that it showed earlier this year has collapsed. This may be particularly due to several factors regarding the mining sub-ecosystem, which could lead to a worse scenario in the short term.

These mining-related factors seem to suggest that Bitcoin may face an intense decline period as the long-awaited halving approaches.

The recovery of Bitcoin in early 2020 led the cryptocurrency from a low of USD 6,800 to a high of USD 10,500. This seemingly strong trend made many investors believe that the reason was the halving.

Data from the mining rolling inventory (MRI) showed that miners were not selling much in the market. This suggests that there were certain doubts about the market’s strength and liquidity despite its constant growth from a price perspective.

In the short term, expert crypto traders are pointing to USD 7,700 as an important point of resistance that could rescue Bitcoin from an even worse fall.

Introduction of Law to Regulate Cryptocurrencies in the USA Proceeds despite Coronavirus

According to Gosar, this new law will facilitate US participation in the cryptocurrency market. The law stipulates that the SEC and FinCEN will be responsible for regulating stablecoins and cryptocurrencies, respectively.

Representative Paul Gosar revealed last March 9th that he had introduced the Crypto-Currency Act of 2020. The legislator and some members of his team are currently under quarantine after being exposed to an individual infected with the coronavirus.

The Congressman said that the quarantine has not prevented them from working hard on the draft legislation. Regulatory clarity about cryptocurrencies will allow them to make it easier for businesses, institutions and ordinary Americans to participate in this growing industry.

During the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Gosar shook hands with the aforementioned COVID-19 infected individual repeatedly. Despite saying that he has not experienced any symptoms, he said that he will stay at home in Arizona for a 14-day quarantine period. He added that his office in Washington DC will be closed for a week.

Contents of the Law

According to its text, the purpose of the proposed law is to clarify which federal agencies regulate digital assets. The idea is to require that they notify the public of any federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to create or trade such assets, among other purposes.

According to the draft legislation, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) should be the main regulator of “crypto products”. This law also proposes that the Financial Crime Execution Network (FinCEN) and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) should be the regulators of cryptocurrencies. Besides, it suggests that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) should be the regulator of crypto-securities and synthetic stablecoins.

The draft legislation also considers that FinCEN should issue rules that require that cryptocurrencies, including synthetic stablecoins, facilitate tracking of transactions with them and those the people involved. Likewise, FinCEN should conduct audits of the reserves supporting stable cryptocurrencies to ensure that each stablecoin is fully backed by the currency issued by the USA or a foreign government.

Gosar Wants the USA to Be Leader

Last March 9th, Gosar stated that it is essential that the USA remains the world leader in cryptocurrencies. He added that the USA can continue to guide the development of this technology as it spreads in emerging markets.

The Congressman believes that cryptocurrencies represent a light of hope for a large part of the world’s population. For example, they offer forgotten and oppressed people a way to participate in the global economy. Therefore, the USA must remain part of this fast-growing industry.

The Representative noted that they received guidance from the CEO of Metal Pay, Marshall Hayner, and the cryptocurrency investor, Erik Finman, for his Cryptocurrency Act of 2020.

The Legislator said that the role of the government is to create an environment where bold ideas can work for the American people. He added that supporting the Crypto-Currency Act of 2020 ensures that the USA will be at the center of the future of commerce, the banking system, and negotiations, among others. Gosar considers that any representative that cares about voters’ livelihoods should analyze his draft legislation.

People’s Bank of China Invests USD 4.7 Million to Promote Blockchain Technology

The main financial institution of China is in charge of the blockchain project and its development.

As part of a technological growth project, the People’s Bank of China (PBC) recently approved an increase in its investment in the technological sector. The amount of USD 4.7 million is focused on driving research and development on blockchain technology as well as its uses.

According to data that the institution issued, the main interest of the Chinese government is to develop a blockchain platform capable of facilitating financial trade, as well as other solutions that may arise from research.

The PBC will be the institution in charge of conducting the project, so they are waiting to receive 32.2 million yuan (equivalent to 4.7 million dollars) from the national government since the government authorized “special financing” for 3 years. During that time, the PBC must present periodic reports related to its progress and discoveries.

In this sense, local media assured that the money which is allocated for the institution will be used mainly to research, as well as to the creation of commercial tools that accelerate the financial movement of the country and the entire region.

The PCB Blockchain Platform

Until now, few details of the platform that the People’s Bank of China is trying to develop are known, but the institution hopes that the project will be a reality in a short time.

Blockchain Bay Area Trade Finance will be the name of the blockchain platform that will be used for financial trade and be enabled for PBC movements. The tool will help safeguard data, orders, and essential information that can allow the best development of business transactions and operations. Besides, the system will be able to share the necessary data so that the country’s regulatory entities can improve commercial oversight and control the operations more efficiently.

Ultimately, the platform will help small and medium-sized entrepreneurs obtain more refined technology to conduct their financial movements. This will facilitate the growth of the commercial sectors that do not have the support of the technology appropriate to the new times.

The Digital Currency Research Lab of the People’s Bank of China is the department that will be in charge of the development of the platform. As the first objective of the tool, once it is ready for operation, it will be available for financial trade in Shenzhen, a city of wide recognition and vigorous growth of technological developments.

Renowned financial institutions and companies such as Standard Chartered and the global corporate Ping An tested the platform at the end of 2018. This took place after said companies accepted the invitation of developers of the initiative.

According to reports from Chinese news agencies, they also tested the platform last January when a total of 38 banks used the blockchain to manage commercial movements that exceed 90 million yuan (approximately USD 13 million). Sectors linked to the project hope that the financing of the government will help to improve the tool they need.
