No One Knows Where Ether Is Going, but It Is Struggling Against the Turmoil

What happened in the cryptocurrency market seems to have only affected Ether in the short term. The cryptocurrency appears to have reached a higher low, so it could resume its previous trend.

The wave of fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) has accentuated again due to negative comments from the Central Bank of Japan on cryptocurrencies. Although Ether does not escape fear, the drop is not too worrisome as it only seems to have short-term effects.

Ether is currently trading at USD 2,360 and has accumulated a gain of more than 50% since its last all-time low. Such behavior reveals significant seller exhaustion and keeps long-term bullish intention intact on large time frames.

The Great Market Crash Was Just a Correction

According to the monthly ETH/USD chart, the current candlestick is about to close with a lot of bearish rejections. This makes the recent large drop of the entire market suffered a simple correction before the price continues to rise.

For that reason, it is not likely that there will be a growth in Ether sales. What happened has only affected Ether in the short term as its adoption and growth do not seem to stop.

The amount of Ether on exchanges is the same as it was before the latest cryptocurrency market crash. That situation leads analyst Maartunn (@JA_Maartun) to consider this cryptocurrency to be more attractive than Bitcoin.

“Although some influential people are still trying to spread fear, we are returning to normal. I firmly hold my view that the bullish run is not over yet,” said Maartunn.

Medium-Term Bullish Trend Is Still Intact

Despite all the force of the last cryptocurrency market crash, the scenario was not too negative. The price of Ether touched the support near USD 2,000 and lost a bit more due to excess volatility.

The current price of the cryptocurrency seems to have reached a new higher low, which could resume the previous trend.

The drop would have been worrisome if there had been a breach of support at USD 1,676. Although breaking through it is possible, such a scenario is unlikely to take place.

These Are Ether’s Levels in the Short-Term

According to the daily chart of the price of Ether, even the number of short-term bearish intentions is decreasing. The inability of bears to reach a low below USD 1,938 confirms this interpretation.

Bulls are still not in control of the short-term trend as the price of Ether should break through the resistance zone near USD 2,767. This scenario would represent good odds in favor of the cryptocurrency.

The ground will be clear to USD 3,431 if it occurs as there is no further resistance to the all-time high. Taking into account the development of the long-term trend, that last level of resistance should not be an obstacle for long.

In this unlikely scenario, the price of Ether should break through the support at USD 1,938. That would lead to thinking that there will be more sales, which would leave the ground free up to at least USD 1,733.

Poloniex Deactivates XRP and ETH Wallets for the Second Time in a Week

The Poloniex exchange temporarily disabled its XRP, Tron, and Ethereum wallets for maintenance, the second time it had done so for XRP in a week. The maintenance comes amid an investigation by a Canadian regulator pointing out that Poloniex has been operating illegally.

Poloniex, one of the oldest and most popular exchanges in the world, has recently deactivated its XRP, Tron, Ethereum, and ERC-20 tokens wallets, claiming maintenance. The maintenance was delivered at a time when a Canadian regulator filed submissions against the exchange, claiming it has been operating illegally.

Poloniex first made an announcement on which it clarified the deactivation of its XRP wallet on May 24. Poloniex did not offer any extra information regarding the maintenance entailed. The next day, Poloniex re-enabled the XRP wallet. Without blocking, yesterday, it deactivated the wallet again, announcing the problem on Twitter through his support page. Later it would re-enable the wallet.

Other wallets that it had temporarily halted for maintenance include Tron (TRX) and TRC20 tokens, Ethereum (ETH) and ERC20 tokens, Polkadot (DOT), Bitcoin Income (BCH), and Bytecoin (BCN).

XRP has experienced an informal decay in the last hours, right in parallel with the typical market trend. It has lost more than 5 percent to trade at $ .8745. It set an intraday high at $ .922 and a small one at $ .7951. The development of such operations has also been limited by 11%, to reach 5.3 billion dollars.

Canadian Regulator are Watching Poloniex

For Poloniex, maintenance issues are not the only bad notification it has faced recently. The Ontario Securities Commission has claimed that the exchange has been working illegally.

In a statement of allegations, the OSC revealed that it sought to hold Polo Digital Property accountable for ‘disregarding Ontario’s title law and pointing out that crypto trading platforms that flout Ontario’s title law will face a regulatory bond ”.

The regulator highlighted that Poloniex is subject to Ontario’s title laws because it serves as a provider of securities and derivatives. It has insisted that such platforms should be registered for some time, the last time was on March 29, 2021, the regulator stated. At the time, he gave the platforms three weeks to get dishonesty or face a regulatory bonus.

Despite the warning, Poloniex did not contact the Commission to initiate discussions on compliance. The OSC wants the exchange to immediately stop offering its services to Ontario residents. On the other hand, it wants Poloniex to pay an administrative fee not to surpass one million Canadian dollars (830,000 US dollars). It must even meet the costs incurred by the Commission in the investigation and the hearing.

Poloniex is one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges on the current market. Born in 2014, it soon climbed high, becoming one of the leading Bitcoin and cryptocurrency trading platforms in the United States of America and one of the most prominent exchanges in the world.

Bank of Canada Says its CBDC will be More Eco-friendly than Bitcoin

Bank of Canada Deputy Governor Timothy Lane said the bank does not currently need to emit its digital currency.

The Bank of Canada, the country’s main monetary policy entity, says its central bank digital currency (CBDC) will be more eco-friendly than Bitcoin, but it does not appear to be in a rush to issue one anytime soon.

According to a report by Penticton Western News, Canada’s central bank has been analyzing environmental impacts as part of its research for the creation of a digital dollar. The media cited recent statements by the entity’s deputy governor, Timothy Lane.

During a talk with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Lane argued that while high power consumption is an integral part of Bitcoin’s mechanism and people’s trust for its value, his CBDC would not need a similar resource to build trust. Lane also said this is because Canadians are very confident regarding the Bank of Canada and the banknotes it prints.

Canada’s CBDC Will be Eco-friendly, and Green

Lane’s remarks come shortly after Elon Musk suspended Bitcoin payments for his company, Tesla, due to concerns over the use of fossil fuels. The announcement made a big impact on the digital asset market while also fueling discussions around the high energy consumption of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Most recently, the billionaire convinced Bitcoin miners to create a Council that promotes the use of renewable energy within the industry.

For Lane, the fact that the Canadian digital dollar focuses on a system based on the prior trust of citizens gives the future currency a higher environmental value than Bitcoin. That means that there is no need to rely on those very environmentally wasteful mining technology ways that users have been experimenting with cryptocurrencies.

While other Canadian panelists noted that there is a rush to activate the use of clean energy sources within the cryptocurrency mining industry, Lane argued that this effort will not yet change the fact that Bitcoin needs considerable amounts of energy that would serve a better purpose.

Canada has no Plans to Emit a Cryptocurrency

Lane also addressed the cost and environmental impact of printing cash notes, but he defended this energy use, highlighting that this expense represents just a small part of the real value of the ticket itself that faces changing procedures in Canada.

The lieutenant governor commented on the matter: “The day those banknotes are no longer considered the king of daily transactions meet their replacements by privately backed cryptocurrencies is when the central bank expects it to have to intervene with its digital currency”. Lane added that the Bank of Canada does not see a need at this time to issue its digital currency.

The comments reflect an early statement Lane did. During the FinTech RDV 2020 event in Montreal, held in February 2020, the lieutenant governor had already stated that he does not see any benefit in creating a digital currency at the moment.

Industry Using Fossil Fuel Receives Funding from British Banks

Bitcoin consumes less electrical energy than the traditional banking system and gold. More than 75% of Bitcoin miners use renewable energy sources such as hydroelectric ones.

British banks in London have financed projects that emit 805 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year. A recent study by environmental groups Greenpeace and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) revealed that information.

As if they were a country, London’s set of financial institutions rank ninth in CO2 emissions in the world. According to the report from both NGOs dedicated to the preservation of the environment, they exceed those of Germany and Canada.

The study tracked the loans and investments that London banks have made. It indicated that financial institutions impact 1.8% more than the annual CO2 emissions of the entire UK.

Some of the most CO2-emitting projects that London bankers have funded are insurance and security services. According to the Rainforest Action Network, 65% of fossil fuel consumption falls on these activities.

CO2 Emissions Could Be Higher than the Study Indicates

However, the study warns that greenhouse gas emissions could be even higher. The reason for this is that the protocol that they use does not include the third-party service in the funded entities.

The researchers used the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) protocol guidelines. Their objective was to estimate the CO2 emissions of loans and investment activities in the institutions under consideration.

The electricity consumption reports from the institutions that have received financing provided information on emission levels. However, the analysts also took into account emissions based on physical operation and economic activity.

They also turned to third-party data providers or service providers when the entities did not have public information. They not only measured electricity consumption but also took into account the region to determine the type of source used.

According to a study by the Rainforest Action Network, British banks are not the only ones that have invested in industries that use fossil fuel. These researchers found that the 60 largest banking institutions in the world have invested USD 3.8 million in them, even after the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Over 75% of Bitcoin Miners Use Clean Energy Sources

Bitcoin certainly generates high power consumption to keep the network secure and efficient. However, it is false that it uses a huge amount of fossil energy and contributes to the emission of CO2. Unfortunately, Tesla’s announcement of the suspension of Bitcoin as payment for its electric cars damaged the image of cryptocurrencies.

According to some bitcoiners, Elon Musk may not have researched before saying that they harmed the environment. According to a 2020 report from the University of Cambridge, 76% of Bitcoin miners use renewable sources.

Cryptocurrency miners generally use hydroelectric plants, except for China, where there is high consumption of coal. However, 62% of the world’s cryptocurrency miners use power from dams, according to a September 2020 estimate.

In February 2021, Yassine Elmandjra, the financial analyst at ARK Investment Management, spoke about Bitcoin mining. She said that it is more positive for the environment than traditional banking and gold.

Biden Administration Intensify Measures against Crypto Tax Evasion

The approach will be valid for returns filed after December 21, 2022. Tax evasion using crypto assets is becoming a huge problem.

The administration of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, is looking for ways to reach those users who are evading taxes with cryptocurrencies and, therefore, reducing the money that enters the public administration.

Such an assertion emerges from the budget plan presented for the fiscal year 2022, on May 28, 2021, by the US head of state. This project also adds two proposals that would bring to institutions additional requirements related to what kind of data financial entities must report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or other sub-departments of the Treasury.

This first proposal would create an expansive broker reporting on crypto assets. The information expanded through a Treasury Department Green Book, published in May 2021. This publication also highlights that the proposed change would expand the horizons of the information reported by brokers, by allowing them to share data in various jurisdictions that have been associated with the United States of America.

This proposal would be helpful for returns filed after December 31, 2022, according to the document. Tax evasion using crypto assets is becoming a worrying problem. Since the industry is fully digital, taxpayers can trade with offshore crypto exchanges and wallet providers without leaving the United States of America.

Financial Institutions Must Report Transfers over USD 600

According to the Treasury Department document, there is one more proposal in the 2022 budget. This one talks about the introduction of a structure of “comprehensive financial accounts reports” to comply with tax requirements. This will require financial institutions to report data on user accounts with a breakdown into diverse types of transfers above a minimum threshold of USD 600.

The proposal would include crypto-asset exchanges and custodians. Separately, notification requirements would apply in cases where taxpayers purchase crypto-assets from one broker and then transfer the crypto assets to another broker, and companies accepting crypto assets in trades with a fair market value of more than USD 10,000. They would have to report such operations.

A week before the 2022 budget was presented, the Treasury Department stated that companies that receive transfers of more than USD 10,000 in cryptocurrencies must issue a report to the Internal Revenue Service.

The requirement currently pairs with transfers of USD 10,000 and more in US dollars. The Treasury report highlighted virtual currencies and cash as potential ways to hide revenue from the government entities.

US Government Insists on Regulating ryptocurrencies

Since 2016, the US government has tried to regulate cryptocurrency exchange houses.  The Financial Stability Supervision Council made a report that analyzed the threats to the financial system in the United States of America.

The commission, made up of executives from the Federal Reserve and the Security Commission in Securities Markets, also reflected on the threats of cyber-attacks and low-interest rates, among others.

Decred and Zcash led the Weekly Top as the Market starts its fully recover

Decred rises more than 50% after integrating its portfolio to its decentralized exchange. Zcash had shown an appreciation of 53% after joining a web extension’s list of payment methods.

From May 24 to 30, 2021, the cryptocurrency market had shown relevant signs of recovery after the general decline that happened last week amid the correction in the price of bitcoin (BTC). About 90% of altcoins registered sudden increases that reached more than 50%, according to statistics from Coin Check-Up.

The weekly top ranks Decred (DCR) as the leading currency, which this week integrated its native portfolio to its decentralized exchange DCRDEX. Then Zcash (ZEC) follows. This currency is currently available in a Chrome browser extension called Moon. And the third goes to beam (BEAM), which is preparing for a change in its governance system.

All five cryptocurrencies get their completion with Cardano (ADA), with the tesnet launch of its Alonzo update; and EOS, which plans changes to its rewards system.

Right after the Third Halving

This stage is going on after the third halving, which happened on May 11, 2020. According to Ecoinometrics, the pattern after these events includes a vertiginous rise, followed by strong corrections and successive rises.

For its part, ether (ETH), Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, also grew in price. This week the price of ETH went between $ 1,782 and $ 2,871 in seven days and on average rose 22%.

Other relevant news about the network includes that of decentralized infrastructure provider SpaceChain, which announced two space missions scheduled for June this year. The first mission, scheduled for June 3, will focus on moving the Ethereum satellite node to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, as the company said in a statement.

Other relevant cryptocurrencies by market capitalization are also showing recovery. XRP gained 21%, and litecoin (LTC) was up 24%. Meanwhile, Polkadot (DOT) appreciates at 16%; and Cardano (ADA) advances by more than 35% to rank fourth in the weekly top.

Decred Integrates DEX into the Decrediton Native Wallet

According to data released this past week, the Decred team announced the initial integration between its decentralized exchange, DCRDEX, and its native Decrediton portfolio. The integration aims to push access to the exchange, launched at the end of last year.

The news appeared on May 27, colliding with the rise of the native cryptocurrency of this network, DCR, which had been constantly increasing since the beginning of the said week. The DCR price ranged between $ 88.17 and a high of $ 154, which it reached on May 27. On average, the cryptocurrency surged more than 54% in seven days.

The integration comes after it was learned that Decred released a new decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), once the necessary changes were executed earlier this month to decentralize the treasury of 87 million dollars. The situation gave stakeholders full sovereignty over project funds.
