Cryptocurrency evangelist John McAfee committed suicide in a Spanish jail last year. There are new doubts about his death. Fugitive for murder and tax evasion, many believe he is still alive.

Netflix has released a new documentary called Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee. It has already launched hundreds of conspiracy theories.
In the documentary, the filmmakers investigate the mysterious death of the cryptocurrency evangelist. But… Did he die at all?
The documentary filmmaker managed to get an interview with his ex-girlfriend Samantha Herrera, who assures that McAfee is still alive and living in Texas.
In the documentary, Herrera says, “I don’t know if I should say it, but two weeks ago after he died, I got a call from Texas: ‘It’s me, John. I paid people to pretend I’m dead, but I’m not dead.
Herrera claims that McAfee told her, “There are only three people in this world who know that I am still alive.” Then he asked her to run away with him.

Herrera claims that their relationship began when she was 18 years old. They lived in Belize until someone “shot” their next-door neighbor, Florida man Gregory Faull. John McAfee was the prime suspect after being known to have arguments with Faull.
Herrera’s relationship with McAfee ended when McAfee suffered a heart attack and was returned to the US. He was then detained there, leaving Herrera at the border.
In the documentary, Herrera says: “His version of the story is that they persecuted him because he didn’t pay the government. They wanted to hurt him, get rid of him.”

The film claims that McAfee married former prostitute Janice Dyson. McAfee soon had to continue his escape from the authorities. He made it to Europe but was arrested in Spain and taken into custody. While in a Spanish prison, McAfee committed suicide in June 2021.
However, before his suicide, while in a Spanish jail, McAfee tweeted that if he died in jail, it would not be his fault.
Meanwhile, wife Janice is still trying to retrieve his body from Spain. He’s been in a morgue for over a year. Which for conspiracy theorists is incredible fodder. They say it’s not really his body in the morgue.
The Documentary
Filmmaker Charlie Russell says that McAfee invited him to run with him and make the film. After an elaborate plan to meet blindfolded in Switzerland failed, the interviews actually took place online. Running with the Devil was reconstructed from the footage.
Obviously, social media lit up at the thought that the evangelist was still alive.
It is the truth?
When asked about Herrera’s claims that McAfee had called her after her death, Russell said she didn’t know what to think.
“She says it and then she looks into the camera and I can’t tell if she thinks it’s real or not.”

Until now, there is speculation as to whether the crypto evangelist and his likely killer might still be alive. The truth is that stranger things have happened both in the crypto sphere and on Netflix.
