Opera, the Norway-based Software Company, reportedly one of the most important in the industry, has recently launched Opera Crypto, the first browser that incorporates a portfolio of cryptocurrencies. The application is currently available for Android OS in a private beta version.

The company has described the application as the first mainstream browser to open the door for Web 3.0. According to the official announcement, Opera expects this product to help reduce the entry barrier to the Internet of Value (IoV), technology that aims to simplify the process of monetary transaction with the support of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. The IoV is described as the part of the web where the value can be exchanged in the same way that we share information, something that according to Opera has not been achieved to the date.

“We hope that this launch accelerates the transition to cryptocurrencies, from speculation and investment to its use for payments and transactions of daily life for our users.”

Said Charles Hamel, Opera’s product manager. The app is currently in its beta version and only supports ETH, tokens ECR-20 and ERC-721, however, developers plan to incorporate support for more cryptocurrencies in the future, after evaluating the operation of the software and the public response.

Opera’s crypto-wallet includes support for the Ethereum Web3 API, which the manufacturer expects to incentivize developers to create dApps. According to Hamel,

“the web of today will be the interface to the decentralized web of tomorrow. This is why we have chosen to use our browser to bridge the gap. We think that with a built-in crypto wallet, the browser has the potential to renew and extend its important role as a tool to access information, make transactions online and manage users’ online identity in a way that gives them more control.”
