Argentina pushes for blockchain implementation in the public and private sectors.

Three Argentine institutions from different sectors of the country are joining forces in order to develop a new blockchain-based platform for public and private usage. The project, “Blockchain Federal Argentina”, is now in its development phase. Led by La Cámara Argentina de Internet (Cabase), and in partnership with NIC Argentina of the public sector and the Association of University Interconnection Networks (ARIU) of the education sector, the tree organizations aim to change the way blockchain technology is currently used in the region. According to the president of Cabase, Ariel Graizer,

“the idea is to continue building and developing the infrastructure to improve Internet in Argentina”.

The project will have a farm of 15 servers in its first stage and is expected to be completely operational by late 2018. It is also reported that the platform will work without an associated cryptocurrency. The association aims to develop a multi-services infrastructure, without precedent in the country that will allow the validation of transactions with virtual currency at the federal level. It is pointed out on Cabase’s website, that the objective of the project is

“to standardize and add security in the framework of the digital economy”.

The agreement between the institutions that are part of the technical community of Argentina, is to

“continue adding value and develop basic services for users, companies and any entity can develop new applications.”

Argentina was one of the first Latin American nations to adopt Bitcoin to avoid the exchange controls that prevailed in the country until the current president Mauricio Macri eliminated them when he assumed the presidency in 2015. However, the economic instability that the country is going through at the moment, has made many Argentinians adopt cryptocurrencies to alleviate the inflationary rises.
