A compelling metaverse would require more improvements in hardware, software, Internet connectivity, and others. Intel intends to reach enough capacity of one sextillion processes per second in at least five years.

According to an article posted on the Intel blog, achieving truly immersive metaverses could be a goal that won’t get reached that soon. The post, made by Raja Koduri, a senior executive of the corporation, highlights that it would require a 1000-fold increase in computational efficiency from its current state.

Koduri, leader of Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics at one of the world’s largest integrated-circuit manufacturers, thinks that bringing the metaverse concept to reality will need exponentially better computing power and the best existing tools.

According to the executive, the metaverses respond to an aspiration to enable rich environments of virtual and augmented reality, in real-time and globally interconnected that will let billions of people to work and play, collaborate and create a social life virtually.

However, creating a compelling digital universe would require hardware improvements and software and Internet connectivity, says Koduri. The process would include creating detailed avatars and rendering gesture data, audio, objects in real-time and then passing them onto cyberspace with minimal latencies.

The word metaverse became highly popular two months ago when Facebook revealed that it would become a corporation committed to working on this concept. Since then, large-scale companies with a transnational approach, such as Nike, Adidas, Zara, and even Times magazine, have been dabbling in metaverses.

Zuckerberg highlighted that they are a company that creates technology to connect people. Together, the company can finally put people at the center of their technology. Zuckerberg also said that together as a company, they can unlock a vastly larger economic sector.

The chairman added that the Facebook name does not represent everything the company does right now and that, despite the change, it remains closely linked to the product, but over time, I hope we will be the meta-reverse company.

In a video on which he made the formal presentation of the new platform, Zuckerberg remarked that the applications and brands would not change; they still desire to be a company that designs people-focused technology.

The chairman indicated that the company will now get segmented into two parts. One of these parts would go for the family of known applications and the other part go for future platforms. The leader said that, due to this procedure, it is just a matter of time for the company to embrace a new brand concept for everything they do and to reflect who they really are.

A recent Grayscale report highlights that more than 50,000 people interact in metaverses through games. However, the number would grow significantly in the upcoming years with Web 3.0.

Raja Koduri highlighted that Intel projects that, by 2022, they would have new high-performance items. In five years, they will reach zettasclae computing, that is, computers with a performance of one sextillion floating-point operations per second.
