The Price of DOGE Could Resume the Upward Trend

At the beginning of 2022, the price of Dogecoin gained momentum, and the recent bullish run caught the attention of investors. The constant rises in DOGE reflect the market’s willingness to acquire holdings, although that does not imply more buying than selling.

The price of memecoin Dogecoin (DOGE) has increased by 12% in the last seven days. In a matter of days, a positive movement put it into a bullish performance that mirrored the latest impulses it had in December.

That recent movement in the value of DOGE appears more firmly and seeks to break through the support at USD 0.19. The memecoin is currently trading at around USD 0.16927, and its market capitalization is about USD 22.36, according to CoinGecko.

The Price of Dogecoin Has a Hasty Recovery

In early 2022, the price of Dogecoin increased at a rate different from the performance of previous months. The original memecoin gained momentum in a few days, which suggested a possible recovery.

The irregular situation occurs as investors look for clues as to which outstanding holdings they should buy. In that sense, the recent bullish run of Dogecoin seeking to break through supports continuously drew attention.

Market confidence seems to be leaning towards an environment forecast a few days ago, considering constant fluctuations. In that way, this would already be the third attempt of the price to resume the upward trend.

The momentum DOGE has gathered reflected capital inflows at appropriate times, in addition to the inclusion of the memecoin in some projects. For example, the electric car company of Elon Musk recently announced that it would accept it as payment for its accessories.

When Elon Musk touched upon the subject, user reactions led to a hasty price recovery. As usual, the comments of the millionaire businessman exert a strong influence on the cryptocurrency market.

What the Movements of the DOGE Price Reveal

The constant rises in the price of DOGE show that the market is willing to buy holdings. However, that does not imply that there are more purchases than sales, considering the failure in each attempt.

The value of Dogecoin reached a high of USD 0.197 in the last week, according to CoinGecko. It left the support at USD 0.15 behind, breaking the resistance at USD 0.175 in late December.

The most recent impulse considerably outperforms the last two ones, putting Dogecoin on a more stable and ongoing bullish run. However, there is still a strong resistance at USD 0.1915, the next target for investors.

Tesla Accepts Dogecoin as Payment for Its Accessories

Electric car company Tesla has started offering products in Dogecoin, the original meme cryptocurrency. That is the only digital asset they can receive and detect, according to the official statement on their website. Furthermore, they urge their customers to make sure that they only pay with DOGE.

When the community read the news, the price of the DOGE token went up to the moon. The same thing happened when Elon Musk announced in 2021 the possibility that his company would accept the memecoin as a payment method.

He stated that he intends to transform the Brazilian metropolis into a center of technological innovation.

The Kingdom of Tonga Accepts Bitcoin as Donations after the Tsunami and the Aftermath of an Underwater Volcano

The Kingdom of Tonga, with 171 islands, got affected by the shock wave of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haa’pai submarine volcano. A former deputy is starting a campaign to accept donations in Bitcoin to help those affected.

On Thursday, January 13, we published that the Kingdom of Tonga could be the second country after El Salvador to make Bitcoin legal tender. This information came from the politician, Lord Fusitu’a.

Who would have imagined that hours after that announcement a natural phenomenon would put the archipelago in need of Bitcoin, this time to help those affected.

Cointelegraph reported today that Tonga is now accepting Bitcoin donations to help with relief efforts as the country grapples with the aftermath of the massive shock wave that produced the explosion of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haa’pai underwater volcano and led to a tsunami.

The Volcano and its Consequences

According to La Tercera, Tonga got practically isolated from the rest of the world after the eruption of an underwater volcano that paralyzed communications in this Pacific island country two days ago.

According to the information, the internet connection could be offline for several weeks for the nearly 100,000 people who live in the country.

Also, the eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haa’pai volcano covered Tonga with ash, causing a tsunami across the Pacific. Even the waves reached the shores of Latin America and left two deaths in Peru.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said yesterday that damage to Tonga’s islands is “significant.” With giant waves covering roads and properties, people began fleeing to higher ground to escape. No casualties have got reported on the Tonga islands, but there has been significant destruction of infrastructure. In addition, air and water pollution are now some of the immediate concerns for aid organizations.

 Bitcoin Comes Transformed into Donations

In the face of calamity, the crypto community expressed its spirit of solidarity. Cryptocurrency holders expressed their intention to donate Bitcoin to help with relief operations. Twitter user onair_blair urged Bitcoin supporter and former Tonga lawmaker Lord Fusitu’a to set up a wallet address where people can donate bitcoins to Tonga relief funds.

Lord Fusitu’a responded with a BTC wallet address and a link where people can donate fiat to help with relief operations. The address has received a total of 0.10794983 BTC ($4,625.29) since yesterday.

And people have been donating, as can be seen in Twitter reports from various users saying where to donate or reporting their transactions.

Volcanic Energy

Coincidentally, a day earlier and just as he was talking about adopting BTC as a currency, Lord Fusitu’a told Cointelegraph about plans to use geothermal energy from volcanoes to power Bitcoin mining operations that would boost the country finances.

That also copies the model of El Salvador. The country has 21 volcanoes and, according to Lord Fusitu’a, each volcano produces at least 95,000 megawatts at all times, which leaves plenty to spare. According to his words, a single volcano could generate around $2,000 worth of Bitcoin daily and would belong to the families in Tonga.

While the State Bank of Pakistan Bans Bitcoin, Northwest Arkansas Attracts Workers with It

The central bank of Pakistan recently took a disappointing position on crypto assets, also urging the SHC to sanction exchanges. The chairman and CEO of the council stated that they would offer Bitcoin to expand the technology industry.

A report submitted to the Sindh High Court (SHC) states that the State Bank of Pakistan and the federal government banned using cryptocurrencies.

They provided that update after a long period of uncertainty about cryptocurrency regulations over the years. Pakistan has not had any laws governing the trade of those digital assets, at least until now.

However, the central bank recently took a position on using digital assets, which is disappointing to some people. In addition, it urged the SHC to impose sanctions against cryptocurrencies besides banning cryptocurrencies.

Northwest Arkansas Attracts Remote Workers with USD 10,000 Worth of  Bitcoin

The Northwest Arkansas Council consists of a group of business leaders intended to encourage development in the region. The organization recently announced a crypto incentive program to attract technology professionals and entrepreneurs to work remotely.

Nelson Peacock, the chairman, and CEO of the council stated that the sector would offer USD 10,000 worth of Bitcoin. In that way, they would look to expand their range of talent in the technology industry.

The crypto incentive program will offer that amount of Bitcoin to the people who qualify for the jobs. Besides, they must be willing to live in Northwest Arkansas near Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville for at least a year.

Fifty Percent of the Wealth of Billionaire Bill Miller Is in Bitcoin

Billionaire and leading fund manager Bill Miller is very optimistic about Bitcoin, so 50% of his assets relate closely to cryptocurrencies.

Miller, a fund manager at Legg Mason between 1991 and 2005, beat the S&P 500 index for an unprecedented 15 years in a row. He has invested heavily in Bitcoin in funds he managed, but his revelation about his portfolio is new.

The investor said that he started buying Bitcoin at around USD 200 in 2014 after hearing a talk by technology entrepreneur Wences Casares. The expert, known as Bitcoin Patient Zero, described it as a robust intellectual experiment and persuaded billionaires to invest in it.

The Kingdom of Tonga Could Follow the Example of El Salvador

Former Tongan parliamentarian Lord Fusitu’a recently suggested establishing Bitcoin as legal tender. He expects the nation to adopt the cryptocurrency by November, for which the House must receive a bill.

Amid that announcement, the cryptocurrency community reacted with great curiosity, promoting debates. It is relevant to know that this proposal would allow more than 100,000 Tongan residents to join the Bitcoin network.

Many community members asked how that bill came about and whether it is like the system of El Salvador. Fusitu’a replied that the law proposal was almost identical to that of the Central American country.

Bitcoin is trading at around USD 43,221 and has accumulated a 3.6% profit in the last seven days. Its daily trading volume is above USD 14.47 billion, and its market capitalization is about USD 818.24 billion, according to CoinGecko.

Environmental Concern Opens Discussion on Donations in Bitcoin to Wikipedia

A contributor believes that BTC does not align with Wikipedia’s environmental commitment. Other users rejected the arguments and supported bitcoin.

The environmental impact attributed to Bitcoin mining is a matter of discussion. This time it approached the collaborators of the Wikimedia Foundation. This foundation, which manages the free Internet encyclopedia, Wikipedia, has been accepting donations in Bitcoin (BTC) since 2014, as well as in Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and ether (ETH).

A participant from the organization, Molly White, proposed in a section where collaborators can participate and debate that crypto-assets should no longer get accepted as donations.

According to White, BTC and other digital currencies do not align with the Wikimedia Foundation’s commitment to environmental sustainability. White considers the high amount of energy that comes from proof-of-work to be an unwarranted expense.

According to the representative, accepting cryptocurrencies means giving support from the foundation to investments and technologies that are inherently predatory.

White also stated that there is a risk of damage in reputation by accepting cryptocurrencies and gave the example of the developer organization of the Mozilla Firefox web browser. This group paused donations in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies while they reviewed their policy on donations and if it related to their climate goals.

For its part, the Wikimedia Foundation is still receiving donations in cryptocurrencies, while the debate gets held in the space provided by the organization.

Responses to the Proposal

The responses to White’s presentation were immediate, and arguments could also get evidenced in favor of the bitcoin donation. One of the positions in favor of accepting bitcoin was that of the collaborator Awwright.

The contributor said that receiving bitcoin is not supporting that industry since that would be the same as saying that they support the United States Federal Reserve or the government of that country, just for receiving donations in US dollars.

Others have explained that bitcoin is a stimulus for green energy. One of the most recent examples took place in Costa Rica. There, hydroelectric energy sources had allowed the development of Bitcoin mining activity. Although digital mining in Costa Rica is not prohibited, it lacks regulations, as does the rest of the market.

That lack doesn’t mean they don’t intend to set up regulations. Some reports revealed that the president of the Central Bank, Rodrigo Cubero Brealey, said that this new economy had to be regulated “to the extent necessary.” There are 650 Miners that belong to 150 Clients Operate Non-Stop in the Central American Nation every day.

There is no denying that the energy consumption by this industry is high. A series of studies and reports highlighted by various media outlets ensure that more than half of the miners use renewable energy sources.

Journalists Investigating Bukele got Spied on by a Secret Agent in El Salvador

The espionage software allowed stealing messages and activating the microphone and camera of phones. Most of the victims are journalists from the El Faro news agency.

The cell phones of 37 journalists and activists behind the investigations against President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador got spied on for a year and a half. This information was verified and announced on January 12 by The Citizen Lab; the research and technological development laboratory for human rights and global security.

Citizen Lab researchers began an analysis of the phones last September after being contacted by two journalists from El Salvador who suspected their devices might get spied on. After the investigation, they found out that they had software installed on the cell phones, which could see and listen to them without their consent.

The software allowed viewing and stealing all kinds of data loaded on the cell phone, such as messages, photos, videos, contacts, and documents. In addition, the software could activate the microphone and the camera to hear and see what they said and did.

The victims were independent journalists and workers from six news agencies and three human rights groups from El Salvador. Although some of their names are kept private, the entity revealed that the main affected was the news outlet, El Faro. Citizen Lab stated that they found evidence that El Faro was under constant surveillance for at least 17 months between June 29, 2020, and November 23, 2021.

The Responsible for the Espionage of Journalists in El Salvador

Citizen Lab said it could not identify who was responsible for deploying the spyware, though it warned that all the victims spied on have one thing in common. The focus on editors, reporters, and activists point to a local client in El Salvador with a particular interest in their activities, said Scott-Railton, the organization’s lead investigator.

In turn, the Reuters news outlet highlighted that the spied on journalists and activists were investigating and publishing alleged irregularities by President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador. The news agency El Faro, for example, has been publishing journalistic reports revealing political scandals.

Citizen Lab reported that telephone espionage is not new in the country where bitcoin was made official last year as the official currency. It alleged that from 2017 to 2020, El Salvador was one of at least 25 countries using mass surveillance technology made by an Israeli company called Circles. It is unknown if the nation is still using it today.

The Circles system allows the view of data from the global telephone network. Unlike this one, the other espionage tool now discovered by Citizen Lab is called Pegasus, created by the company NSO Group Technologies. It is a technology that consists of installing software on specific devices to access their information and utilities.

NSO Keeps the Names of its Clients Unknown

According to Reuters, the company stated that it sells its products only to crime-fighting intelligence agencies and is not involved in surveillance operations.

Nayib Bukele’s communications office told the agency that the Salvadoran government was not a client of NSO. In addition, he transmitted from the presidency of El Salvador that they have indications that government officials are also victims of attacks.
