Solana Ecosystem Got Accused of Securities Violations and Illegal Profiting

Plaintiff Mark Young expressed that the entities disrupted securities policies. The lawsuit also highlights that the defendants received benefits from SOL thanks to retail investors. Solana had a remarkable performance regarding ecosystem growth despite the crash in the market.

Solana got sued in a California federal court by an investor who expressed that entities with a remarkable role in that environment have been receiving illegal benefits from SOL, the blockchain’s native token.

Mark Young expresses that Solana Labs, its Foundation, co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, Multicoin Capital Management and its co-founder Kyle Samani, and FalconX disrupted federal securities policies.

The class-action lawsuit got issued in California. It claims that the defendants had sold Solana as securities without any statement to prove its registration and encouraged the promotion of those allegedly unregistered items.

These securities violation claims share many similarities to those violations that other crypto entities have endured in recent years.

Law entities Roche Freedman and Schneider Wallace Cottrell Konecky issued the complaint on behalf of Young on Jul. 1. Young explained that he faced several losses and, as such, felt urged to file the accusation.

In the filing, the accusations point out that SOL was a centralized digital asset that the defendants exploited to receive benefits. This activity got achieved due to retail investors’ capital. None of the defendants highlighted any statement to defend themselves against the lawsuit.

Regarding the alleged securities violations, the lawsuit expressed that the token passes the Howey Test to know if a currency is a security.

Purchasers who acquired SOL securities have invested funds or given valuable services to a common entity named Solana.

These purchasers have a precise strategy to receive profit focused on the efforts of the promoters, Solana Labs, and the Solana Foundation to consolidate a blockchain network that will fight with Bitcoin and Ethereum and become a solid framework for financial activities on the blockchain.

Solana Ecosystem Bearing up Despite Crash

The market crash damaged many crypto entities and projects, but Solana does not show the same signs of violence as its peers. The Solana NFT marketplace Magic Eden just secured more funding, purchasing at least $130 million in investments in a Series B round. The blockchain surpassed $2 billion in all-time non-fungible token (NFT) sales.

On the other hand, the Solana Foundation and Solana Ventures highlighted a $100 million fund to backup Web3 startups headquartered in South Korea. These developments show that activity in the crypto space remains active.

There is still a long way to see how the lawsuit would affect the accused. The ecosystem appears to be healthy, with the main focus on expanding its fields as much as possible.

The US Banned Crypto Holders from Working on Government Policies

Government officials could not work on crypto laws if they possess digital currencies. Those who hold up to at least $50,000 in mutual funds that include companies linked to the crypto space can still work on policies.

The North American government has banned employees working on regulations and policies affecting digital assets from owning cryptocurrencies.

The government’s Office of Government Ethics placed new policies highlighting a conflict of interest between the parts involved. The regulation reaches many factors essentially linked to the crypto market, including stablecoins.

An employee with any digital asset or stablecoin under control may not take a vital part in a particular law if the employees in question are aware of the law and its possible impact on the value of their digital assets or stablecoins.

The policy also explains that the de minimis exemption is universally irrelevant to digital assets and stablecoins.

The New Policy Also Applies to all Agencies Linked to the North American Administration

On the other hand, employees linked to the administration will have the possibility to work on linked laws if they dispossess their holdings in digital currencies. The policy would also be effective for all federal government entities, including the United States Treasury, the Federal Reserve, and the White House.

A remarkable exception to this new policy also arrives: Employees working for the administration can house at least $50,000 in mutual funds in entities closely linked to the crypto space.

The United States has boosted the regulation of the market in the past months. Many improvements have taken effect in the last six months, as administrations intend to create a shield to cover investors and prevent criminal behavior and activities that could harm them and take them away from the market.

Regulation is always aiming at Stablecoins, with the recent TerraUSD (UST) drop fresh in lawmakers’ minds. The Federal Reserve thinks about creating a CBDC living in parallel with stablecoins. However, many experts said at a recent conference that the range for cross-border applications had too many limitations. On the other hand, The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is currently leading a series of studies into cryptocurrencies.

The Fed Considers Tightening Rates If Inflation Levels Rise Further

The US Federal Reserve might raise interest rates by 50 to 75 points in July if the economy weakens. Since Powell knows that another hike could hurt growth, he aims to lower inflation to 2%.

The reduction of inflation is at the top of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) priorities. June has been the month in which they have applied most measures to fight the problem with the 75-point rise in interest rates.

Jerome Powell, the president of the Fed, expects to reduce the highest inflation in 30 years to 2%. They announced they would raise interest rates by 50 to 75 points in July if inflation did not slow.

Powell said that a significant risk the committee faced was high inflation taking hold if the public began to question their resolution. That led them to recognize the possibility that a tighter stance might be appropriate amid persistent inflationary pressures.

The Tightening of US Federal Reserve Policies Might Slow the Economy

The Fed also referred to the growth expectations questioned due to those measures. Given that context, they explained in their minutes that growth would possibly stop, a risk they must take to lower inflation.

The officials recognized that policy tightening could slow economic growth for a while. However, they consider that inflation returning to 2% is critical to achieving maximum employment.

That is the narrative regarding inflation that the Fed and Powell have maintained over the last few months.

Powell recently expressed that he was confident in the possibility of reducing inflation to 2%. He also said there were chances to achieve a controlled landing amid this crisis, although a recession was possible.

The Complex Situation of the Fed Hinders Reducing Inflation

Powell and the US Federal Reserve are currently in a difficult moment. According to the latest data, inflation in the United States is still at its peak and shows no signs of slowing down.

Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs have raised their odds of a recession to 38% and 30%, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer sentiment is negative as the Fed enters shaky ground.

That situation could be worse if the policies the Fed wants to implement significantly affect investment and markets. That would make life more expensive and problems more serious. In the case of cryptocurrency investors, the measures taken by the Fed have caused fear among them.

The growth of the inflationary rate hinders the economy and affects all markets, including cryptocurrencies. Amid the current market crisis, Bitcoin is trading at around USD 20,508 and has accumulated a slight 2.4% gain over the last 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.

In their attempt to reduce inflation, the Fed has printed excessive banknotes, producing the opposite effect. However, they have criticized the volatility of cryptocurrencies and their alleged use in illicit activities. They have also decided to raise interest rates, causing fear among citizens and hurting all markets.

After Resuming Dialogue with the IMF, Argentina Commits to the Program

Both parties held a meeting that lasted 45 minutes, which they rated as productive. The director-general of IMF said Argentina was going through a difficult moment.

Silvina Batakis, the Argentine Minister of Economy, recently talked to officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She told them that she supports the program outlined by that country and the organization.

That happened after a video call following the meeting between Batakis and Alberto Fernández at the Casa Rosada. There they finished defining the course of economic policy after the unexpected departure of Martín Guzmán. It includes the projection of a new agreement with the credit institution.

Before the virtual meeting, the IMF managing director, Kristalina Georgieva, said the organization would continue supporting Argentina.

There is a concern in Washington and on Wall Street due to the change of minister, as Batakis relates to Kirchnerism. Since that political sector has criticized the agreement, they fear she will set aside the program.

These meetings between the government and the IMF occurred after the last change in the Cabinet. Meanwhile, the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, prepares the agenda for his first meeting with Joe Biden in July.

One of the main issues will be the credit of Extended Facilities with the international organization. They will focus on seeking support for a renegotiation that is still uncertain.

Another Argentine Official Resigns from His Office

Economist MartĂn Pollera will replace Guillermo Hang, who resigned from the Secretary of Commerce. The former has already worked alongside the new Minister of Economy, Silvina Batakis.

Martín Guzmán requested Hang to come to office on May 23rd. Until then, that economist from La Plata was on the board of the Central Bank. Pollera is also a graduate of the University of La Plata.

The government will announce the final list of Cared Prices with their new values before knowing the June inflation. The INDEC will disclose next week the consumer price index for last month, which private consultants place around 5.4%.

Argentina Has an Unstoppable Country Risk Level

The country risk level of Argentina rose to an intraday record of 2,728 basis points as distrust of the domestic economy has grown. It has been the highest country risk since May 26th, 2020 (2,778 units), before the public debt swap with private creditors.

That indicator of the JP Morgan bank came from a maximum of 2,652 units. The sovereign bonds in US dollars with foreign law, the Globales, crashed on Wall Street by between 11% and 13% due to changes in economic governance.

The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) sold about 90 million US dollars in the wholesale market. They wanted to compensate for a high demand to cover payments for energy imports exceeding USD 100 million daily.

The amount transacted (around USD 500.5 million) in the cash (spot) segment was significant again. That figure reveals the processing of more foreign currency for imports, restricted in the last week of June. The volume traded in the official market was recently over USD 1 billion.

Amid the weakening of the Argentine economy and fiat currency, the crypto market maintains its bearish trend. The leading cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), have recovered slightly over the last 24 hours. It is only a matter of time to know where the price of these assets will head next.

Analysts Consider CBDCs to Have a Highly-Limited Cross-Border Reach

CBDCs currently have limited use internationally, according to analysts at the Trust Project. Although the Fed is considering launching an American CBDC, it has not yet set a time frame.

The Trust Project is a global nonprofit consortium of news organizations dedicated to creating transparency standards. According to analysts from that network, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) have a highly-limited cross-border reach.

The experts reached that conclusion during a discussion organized by the US Federal Reserve (Fed). In essence, the comments indicate that the impact of CBDCs, in their current state, is not significant.

The specialists had a session in which they addressed aspects related to crypto assets. They discussed topics related to the technologies behind cryptocurrencies, one of which was CBDCs.

The participants in the discussion said that CBDCs still had highly-limited cross-border applications. They mostly agreed that technology alone could not lead to drastic changes in the global monetary ecosystem.

They pointed to other crucial factors such as the rule of law, stability, network effects, and depth of markets. They consider that these are responsible for the advantages of the dominant currencies in the market.

The experts say that the crypto market focuses more on retail investors who enter in a speculative mood. In addition, they recognize that the lack of regulatory frameworks places limits on institutional investors.

However, the panelists agreed that digital assets could bolster the strength of the US dollar. That would provide hope for the cryptocurrency market if new services build around US fiat currency.

The US Federal Reserve Is Considering Launching a CBDC

For years, there has been much speculation about whether the Federal Reserve would launch an American CBDC. After other countries announced their initiatives, the central bank confirmed it would.

They have not released a timetable for launching the central bank digital currency. However, it may still be some time before the North American country can be ready.

The creation of a CBDC has received support, with Vice President Lael Brainard saying it could co-exist with stablecoins.

At present, the United States is experiencing high rates of inflation. The Fed has raised interest rates by 0.5%, the widest margin since 2000.

The monetary policies of the US government agency have led analysts to express their opinions. They have gone so far as to say that these measures have strongly influenced cryptocurrencies and their market cycles.

Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of the exchange FTX, highlighted that the Fed is struggling to control the growing inflation. He said that it had reached its highest level since 1981 despite the effort from the government, investors, and citizens.

Cryptocurrencies play a relevant role in the world economy, which many governments do not overlook. They have worked on creating regulations to control their use and have considered launching their CBDCs.

Meanwhile, BTC is trading at around USD 20,155 and has accumulated a 2.0% gain over the last seven days. While its daily trading volume is above USD 23.21 billion, its market capitalization is about USD 385.86 billion, according to CoinGecko.

Spain’s 2gether Exchange Suspended Individual Bitcoin Profiles

The company blames the suspension of the accounts on the crypto winter and a lack of resources to maintain them. Users have until July 20 to extract their digital assets, or they will get sold.

Users of the Spanish bitcoin and digital assets exchange 2gether are receiving notifications revealing the closure of their individual accounts.

The message says that after five years of supporting the crypto community, 2gether got forced to close the service for private accounts. Some users started a complaint campaign on Twitter to show their anger about the decision.

The argument for this move is that they cannot give the same high-quality services as other relevant entities in the market.

When the entity speaks of crypto winter, they mean the current comprehensive market for digital assets such as bitcoin. This bear market led to a situation that impacted other digital asset service networks, including Coinbase, BlockFi, and Gemini. The most recent company harmed by this situation is the Voyager Digital exchange, which filed for bankruptcy hours ago.

On the other hand, the Spanish entity also revealed that it could not keep carrying out its activities for free. For this reason, users must now assume part of the cost the entity has faced in recent years to maintain the profiles.

In that sense, the Spanish entity highlighted that they would charge at least 20 euros corresponding to said cost to all users from next July 10. This fee will get extracted in digital assets by discounting said amount from the positions in the different digital currencies users have in their profiles.

Those clients who do not have the funds necessary to cover the 20 euros will have to close their accounts, even though the entity highlighted the date for users to comply with what got requested. The entity expressed in the same statement that it has already started the procedures to suspend the said accounts.

Process for Extracting Funds

Among 2gether’s suggestions for their users to receive the funds they have invested, they commented that all staking positions should get closed to get transferred to bitcoin or ether (ETH). Then withdraw it from the exchange application to their bank profiles.

If users have not extracted their digital assets from the exchange by July 20, the company will have to sell the digital assets of customers who do not suspend their accounts. The entity will also do so by including an additional 30 euros.

The remaining balance in euros in favor of the user will get housed in the client’s account of the electronic money provider Pecunpay.
