SEC Wants Alternative Way to Deliver Documents to CZ

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) wants an “alternate route” to send the corresponding documents to Binance.

The matter of regulators against Binance in the United States is just beginning. Now, the SEC wants a solution, albeit an alternative one, to deliver documents to the exchange’s CEO, Changpeng Zhao. For this, the agency would have requested authorization from the court that handles the lawsuit case.

This initiative of the commission occurs given the difficulties in knowing the businessman’s whereabouts. According to the agency itself, the head of the most important exchange on the planet is “famously protective when it comes to revealing his whereabouts.”

Thus, the agency wants to carry out the legal process it has against the crypto trading firm. On Monday, regulators sued CZ and Binance with a total of 13 charges.

SEC Wants to Speed Up Case Against Binance

It seems obvious that the SEC wants to get out of this Binance issue fast. However, this will be a slow and difficult process for the plaintiffs. In any case, the first obstacle for the agency is that the company does not have a fixed headquarters.

In the same vein, the commission claims that the company’s CEO is not easy to find. Consequently, the solution to this would be to send copies of the documents to the company’s lawyers directly.

According to the businessman himself, its current location is in Dubai. However, his company is famous for not having a headquarters, while his employees are scattered worldwide. The way to manage this million-dollar business is one of the most complicated for regulators.

“Binance and Zhao are not your typical foreign entity and individual, as they are widely known for disagreeing with the premise of a headquarters or domicile, let alone identifying one, and Zhao is famously known for guarding against revealing his whereabouts,” expresses the Commission in the aforementioned request of this Thursday.

Considering the above, it is clear that the SEC wants authorization to take alternative paths. For the commission led by Gary Gensler, the priority is for the documents to have a legal recipient; in this regard, the firm’s lawyers are ideal.

The War on Cryptocurrencies

This week was one of the most difficult for centralized cryptocurrency trading companies. The US regulatory commission directly targeted the two major exchanges, Binance and Coinbase.

Although the companies have great influence and broad support, the magnitude of the charges leaves no doubt as to what the SEC wants. Other companies with similar platforms are feeling the pressure that the agency will be after them soon. The atmosphere seems heated in the United States, and businessmen complain about the lack of regulatory clarity.

One of the affected exchanges, Coinbase, recently stated that it is convinced that a lawsuit is in the best interest. That would allow the company to have a clear picture of the regulations for operating in the US market.

Meanwhile, CZ’s company, Binance, calls on its users not to panic and avoid FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt). According to Binance, the SEC wants to harm America’s innovation and leadership role in the tech world.

Ron DeSantis: What Will Happen to BTC If He Becomes US President?

Ron DeSantis is an active member of the cryptocurrency community. The politician believes that the victory of his closest rivals can destroy the cryptocurrency industry. Trump and Biden may be DeSantis’ main rivals in the elections.

In the fall of 2024, the sixtieth presidential election will take place in the United States. One of the candidates for US head of state is an active member of the cryptocurrency community: Ron DeSantis. This is what will happen to Bitcoin if it wins

Who is Ron DeSantis?

Ron DeSantis is an American politician and representative of the Republican Party. He was born in 1978 in Florida. The politician has been the governor of his home state since 2019. In 2023, he became one of the candidates for the presidency of the United States.

In the context of DeSantis’ candidacy, polls have shown that the politician has a close rival, former US President Donald Trump.

DeSantis’ significant lead over former US Vice President Michael Pence and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley prompted a closer look at the personality of a potential US presidential candidate. Many have noted his interest in cryptocurrencies.

DeSantis and Cryptocurrencies

Ron DeSantis is an active member of the cryptocurrency community. The politician has openly expressed his position on several occasions. Among other things, DeSantis criticized current regulators for putting pressure on the cryptocurrency industry, which in his opinion could lead to its collapse.

As part of his electoral program, the politician declared his willingness to protect Bitcoin in case of victory. If no one defends the cryptocurrency industry, he believes that the digital asset market will not last long.

DeSantis is also opposed to central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). In his opinion, putting such instruments into circulation could destroy the financial independence of the country’s citizens. For this reason, the politician proposed to ban CBDCs in Florida, which he controls.

DeSantis is not against expanding the possibilities of the use of cryptocurrencies. In fact, the politician is in favor of allowing citizens to pay taxes using digital assets. Unfortunately, local legislators have not supported the proposal.

DeSantis vs. Trump

DeSantis’ rival for the US presidency, Donald Trump, also has his own history with the crypto community. Initially, the politician planned to “get rid of Bitcoin”. In a June 2021 Fox Business interview, Trump called BTC a scam.

Despite his distaste for cryptocurrencies, Trump does not appear to be opposed to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) at all. The politician launched several token collections, which brought him around 1 million dollars.

It is worth noting that, in 2023, Trump became the main aggressor in the cryptocurrency market. The politician has proposed imposing a 30% tax on miners, as well as closing cryptocurrency tax loopholes, to replenish government coffers.

In short, Desantis’s victory in the US presidential election could bring significant support to the cryptocurrency industry, as the politician openly declares his positive attitude towards the new financial instrument and promises to support its development.

However, polls show the seat is likely to go to the politician’s main rival, former US President Donald Trump, or current US President Joe Biden.

Bitcoin Settles Near Key Level as Pressure Mounts on Coinbase After SEC Charges

0

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies rose Friday, settling near key levels as the digital asset space reels from a U.S. regulatory crackdown on the two major cryptocurrency exchanges, Binance the major strong cryptocurrency exchange on the planet and Coinbase the cryptocurrency firm which manages one of the main platforms for buying and selling bitcoins and other digital currencies.

Bitcoin’s price has risen less than 1% in the past 24 hours to $26 600, sitting in the middle of a trading range between $26 000 and $27 000 that has mostly dominated since the larger cryptocurrency failed to hold the April peak above $30 000. While Bitcoin fell into the $25,000 zone this week when the Securities and Exchange Commission sued Binance and Coinbase, digital assets have shaken off this threat amid a lack of sellers after a year-long bear market.

Bitcoin may have shown strength by quickly recovering from the USD 25,500 support level on June 6, but that doesn’t mean breaking above USD 27,500 is going to be an easy task.

Investors still expect stricter regulatory scrutiny following the FTX bankruptcy in November 2022, including recent lawsuits against Coinbase and Binance.

In the past six months, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has taken a total of eight actions related to cryptocurrencies. Some analysts suggest that the SEC is attempting to redeem itself for failing to police the FTX by taking action against the two major exchanges.

Analysts’ Views

Alex Kuptsikevich, an analyst at broker FxPro, said that “Bitcoin trades near $26 500, in the middle of the previous day’s trading range and just above the psychologically important 200-week moving average”; he added, “A break below this level could trigger a deeper drop to $24,500 (previous high) or even $22,200 (50-week moving average).”

Next week looms on the macroeconomic front, with Bitcoin likely to react to a sideways move in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 to U.S. inflation data due on Tuesday, and the Federal Reserve’s latest interest rate decision on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, pressures continue to mount on crypto exchanges charged by the SEC for, among other things, offering unregistered securities in the US.

Mark Palmer an analyst from Berenberg cut his price target on Coinbase shares Thursday while maintaining a Hold rating, though he rated the stock “non-investable” in the middle of significant regulatory overlap. Ratings agency Moody’s on Thursday changed its outlook on Coinbase’s debt, in unique, corporate family rating and senior unsecured secured notes.

Beyond Bitcoin, Ether – the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization – gained less than 1% to around $1,850. Smaller cryptocurrencies or altcoins were more mixed, with Cardano crumbling at 4% but Polygon (MATIC) currently ranked among the top 10 cryptocurrencies based on market capitalization and has been in the top 10 for a long period of time, appearing at 2% higher.

On the other hand, memecoins were buoyant, with both Dogecoin based on the depicts a Shiba Inu dog that has as a sole prerogative being a fun alternative to Bitcoin and Shiba Inu or SHIB, a token bringing the power of a decentralized, community-led currency to millions across the globe since its inception in late 2020, were up less than 1%.

Whale Wakes Up After 10 Years and Moves BRL 160 Million in Bitcoin

The whale sent the balance to another starting address “bc1psv”. But it is not possible to check if the address belongs to an exchange or a person.

It is not common to see large investors selling Bitcoin (BTC) during a recession. As the price goes down, though, one of these big investors, a “whale”, has moved all the BTC out of his wallet.

The action took place yesterday (June 8) According to data from the Lookonchain chain analysis platform, the investor moved 1,432.93 BTC, the total balance of the portfolio. Based on the current price, the value corresponds to approximately R$ 160 million.

This address has not registered any movement since 2013. At that time, a Bitcoin was worth less than US$100, as compared to US$26,400 today. Therefore, the investor held this small fortune for more than a decade.

Coming out of Hibernation

Before said transfer, the last transaction in the portfolio was precisely the one in which the investor received the BTC. On April 9, 2013, the investor received 1,432.92 BTC in one transaction. According to the on-chain analytics platform Lookonchain, the address was inactive for ten years and two months.

This move follows a series of similar transfers in recent months. Big investors are apparently making a profit amid the current uncertainty in the market.

It is difficult to determine if the convictions of the whales changed in the bear market and if these movements are related to the sale of BTC. Another possibility is that investors simply switch wallets, or even withdraw Bitcoin from exchanges.

Other Movements

This Thursday’s movement was not the first of the year, much less the one with the highest value. That’s because in April, a Bitcoin wallet that had been inactive for more than nine years transferred 2,071.5 BTC (worth more than R$300 million). The whale address received a total of 6,071.5 BTC at the end of 2013, when the price of Bitcoin hovered around $663.

During the same period, another long-term investor, whose shares had remained intact for 12 years, transferred 400 BTC (equivalent to approximately BRL 55 million) to multiple addresses.

Meanwhile, a recent analysis by Glassnode revealed that large investors continued to accumulate aggressively, despite its price getting stuck in a limited trajectory. Therefore, the probability that these transactions involve the sale of BTC is low.

Whales Waking Up, What Are the Implications?

Coin movements by old wallets are often considered a bad sign. It may imply that the owner is moving the BTC to an exchange in order to sell it at a massive profit. Sales of this volume could significantly impact the Bitcoin market price. However, holders occasionally transfer their BTC to new addresses for safekeeping.

According to Glassnode analysts, there is less chance of holders selling their Bitcoin after 155 days. On the other hand, data from IntoTheBlock, for the month of May, indicates that 69% of Bitcoin addresses now have a weighted average holding period of more than a year.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin (BTC) is trading today, June 9, at US$26,640.71, according to the Live Coin Watch portal. This price positions it 101% compared to its value 24 hours ago and 98% compared to the same day last week.

Gary Gensler Applied for Employment at Binance in 2019, Exchange Lawyers Claim

Current US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Secretary Gary Gensler applied for a job at Binance in 2019.

The SEC drama against crypto trading does not seem to be heading toward a calm situation. Recently, the defendants chose to let the cat out of the bag and recall that Gensler applied for a job at Binance in 2019.

According to the company’s lawyers, the then Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor approached the crypto firm. However, there is still no precision as to who approached whom to seek services.

A recent work by the WSJ points out that it was just the opposite. Either way, the relationship between Gensler and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao appears to be on a remarkable trajectory. The latter could be the explanation for the viciousness of the current SEC lawsuit against the cryptocurrency trading platform.

Both people (Gensler and CZ) met repeatedly to talk about the future of the company in the United States. In other words, Gensler did not consider the crypto firm to represent a problem, as he now does at the helm of the agency.

Gensler and Binance, A Toxic Relationship

Whether Gensler applied for a job at Binance, or the opposite, seems unimportant at this point. What matters is that the current secretary of the SEC had a relationship with the exchange of previous data. If things ended badly, it is possible that the agency’s current viciousness against the platform has overtones of revenge.

Although the latter is an assumption, it cannot be ruled out. In any case, the crypto company’s lawyers say that in 2019 Gensler asked to be part of the project as an “informal advisor.”

So close is the relationship between the two, say the lawyers that Gensler was scheduled to testify before the US House Committee on Financial Services in 2019. Before appearing at the hearing, he sent Zhao a copy of his testimony seeking approval from the businessman.

Similarly, CZ was invited to attend a course on cryptocurrencies presented by Gensler at MIT. In the SEC’s lawsuit against the exchange and against CZ, the agency describes the executive, who resides in Dubai, as a “foreign national” with a tendency to “geographical evasiveness.” Meanwhile, he company dismisses the SEC director as someone who feels “comfortable with the role of informal adviser.”

Given the relationship both people have had, the lawyers requested that there be a recusal of any action related to the company.

The Other Side of the Story

There is an opposing narrative according to which Gensler did not apply for a job with Binance, but that it would have been the company that approached the then MIT professor to pave the way to the US market.

It is worth mentioning that in 2018, an internal Binance chat says that they should approach the professor since, in the 2020 elections, if the Democrats win, he would return to the field of regulators.

The same outlet cites a source close to the SEC, which, if honest, would show that Gensler did not apply for a position at Binance.

Making Bitcoin Sense with Binance: Features That Make the Major Cryptocurrency Unique

Binance is the world’s leading exchange and many people use it to trade and track the price of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is by far the most popular and powerful cryptocurrency available today. From its decentralized nature to the limited security of supply through cryptographic technology, Bitcoin has disrupted the typical financial landscape. Furthermore, it has captured the imagination of investors and enthusiasts alike.

Now, what makes Bitcoin such a special and unique cryptocurrency among hundreds of others? Next, let’s explore the answer to this question.

Decentralization and Peer-to-peer Transaction

Unlike typical currencies, which are issued and regulated by central banks, Bitcoin runs on a decentralized network that runs on a peer-to-peer protocol. It means that all transactions on the Bitcoin network are between users and there is no need for intermediaries such as banks or payments.

Limited and Deflationary Supply

The total supply is around 21 million, which means that only 21 million Bitcoins will exist. This is in stark contrast to typical currencies that may be printed or even issued by central banks. Bitcoin’s limited supply has several implications.

First, it makes Bitcoin a deflationary currency since the supply is fixed and cannot be inflated by monetary policies, including quantitative easing.

The limited supply will also create scarcity, which will increase the price of bitcoins. It has led to speculation and investment in Bitcoin as a potential asset class.

Security and Cryptographic Technology

Bitcoin’s security is another important element that sets it apart from typical currencies. The Bitcoin network uses the latest cryptographic techniques to secure transactions and prevent any type of fraud.

Transactions on Bitcoin networks are verified through challenging mathematical algorithms, which require huge computational power to solve. The process, which is generally known as mining, is where the math puzzles must be solved. The first to solve will validate the transaction and add it to the user’s Blockchain.

Privacy and Pseudonym

Bitcoin transactions are basically pseudonymous. Thus, there is a certain level of privacy to all Bitcoin users, since the real-world identity is not tied to your transactions next time; however, it is important to know that Bitcoin transactions are not completely anonymous, as anyone can view the transaction history and track the flow of funds from one address to another.

Bitcoin users can take steps to improve their privacy. For example, they may use different Bitcoin addresses for different transactions to make it challenging to link Transactions to a single user.

Global Accessibility and Transactions without Borders

Bitcoin is basically a global currency that is not geographically limited. Transactions can be made between users from various countries without the need for intermediaries.

This feature makes Bitcoin transactions fast and cost-effective, compared to typical cross-border transactions, which can be time-consuming and expensive due to the fees and exchange rates involved.

The global accessibility of Bitcoins also makes it one of the best options for people who live in countries with restrictive financial systems or unstable currencies and allows them to have more control over their finances.

All in all, Bitcoin is a revolutionary digital currency that significantly differs from typical currencies and the financial system. It is decentralized and the most prominent way to participate in the Bitcoin ecosystem is through trading and mining.
