Crypto Market Falls as Matrixport Predicts SEC Rejection of Bitcoin Spot ETFs, See What Really Happened

In a surprising turn of events, Matrixport’s latest report has cast a shadow over the cryptocurrency market, suggesting that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is set to reject all exchange-traded funds (Bitcoin Spot ETF) in January.

Matrixport predicts that final approval may not materialize until the second quarter, along with an expected drop in Bitcoin price to the $36,000 to $38,000 range. The report recommends investors hedge their positions by purchasing put options or even taking an outright short position in Bitcoin.

On January 3, Chinese reporter Colin Wu posted the following on X:

“Matrixport’s latest report released a rare view that the SEC will reject all Bitcoin spot ETFs in January, and final approval may be achieved in the Q2. It also predicts that the price of Bitcoin will fall to 36,000 to 38,000, and recommended that investors buy put options or even directly short Bitcoin.”

Matrixport’s Report and Bitcoin Spot ETFs

Matrixport’s cautious stance is highlighted in its statement on X, “Matrix on Target projects a January rejection of Bitcoin spot ETFs by the SEC, warning traders to hedge long exposure. With SEC Chairman Gensler’s skepticism towards cryptocurrencies, a possible -20% Bitcoin price drop is anticipated following the ETF denial, although a positive outlook remains for the end of 2024.”

The report goes on stating that “An ETF would certainly enable crypto overall to take off, and based on Gensler’s comments in December 2023, he still sees this industry in need of more stringent compliance. From a political perspective, there is no reason to approve a Bitcoin Spot ETF that would legitimize Bitcoin as an alternative store of value.”

“If there is any denial by the SEC,” the report points out that there could be cascading liquidations,” as “most of the $5.1 billion in additional perpetual long Bitcoin futures” are expected “to be unwound.” The report forecasts a drop in Bitcoin prices “by -20% very quickly and falling back to the $36,000/$38,000 range.”

In response to this report, the broader crypto market experienced a brief slowdown, with BTC briefly falling below $41,000 and ETH falling below $2,100. However, the market is showing signs of recovery. In particular, settlements reached a remarkable $540 million in the last four hours.

Bloomberg ETF Analyst Disagrees and Sets the Record Straight

Contrary to Matrixport’s pessimistic outlook, Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas expressed a more optimistic view on X, stating: “We haven’t heard anything to indicate anything other than approval. Not sure why the Matrixport analyst is changing so quickly, I still think the chance of approval is as high as 90%, including multiple mainstream journalists and inside sources.”

CoinEcho post on X, dated January 3, reads as follows:

“JUST IN: Bloomberg Senior #ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas says “we have heard nothing to indicate anything but approval.”

Adding another layer to the developing narrative, Greekslive reported a decreasing likelihood of ETF approval this week. Options data, including a drop in ATM options implied volatility to 52% for the week and below 65% for the January 12 expiration, suggests further skepticism. Block trades are also witnessing active buying of puts, indicating a cautious sentiment among market participants.

In short, the Matrixport report has injected uncertainty into the cryptocurrency market, in contrast to the more optimistic sentiments of other industry experts. The events unfolding around Bitcoin spot ETFs will likely shape the trajectory of the market in the coming weeks.

Ethereum Price Regains Ground, But Advantages Could Cap Above $2,300

ETH also started a major decline like Bitcoin and broke the $2200 support zone.

Ethereum price fell and soared below $2,000 on Kraken. ETH is now recovering above the $2,200 level, but the bears could be active near $2,300. Ethereum started a major decline and fell below the $2200 support. The price is trading below $2300 and the 100 hourly simple moving average.

A connecting bearish trend line is forming with resistance near $2,300 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD (data feed via Kraken). The pair could continue to rise if there is a clear move above USD 2,290 and USD 2,300.

Ethereum Price Plummets

Ethereum price struggled to settle above the $2,400 resistance zone. There was a sharp drop and the price even spiked below the $2,000 support zone. A new yearly low was formed near $1,860 and the price is now recovering from the losses.

There was a decent rise above the $2,000 and $2,080 resistance levels. The price rose above the 50% Fibonacci retracement level of the downward move from the high of $2,430 to the low of $1,860.

However, Ethereum is still below $2,300 and the 100 hourly simple moving average. On the upside, the price is facing resistance near the $2,290 level. The first major resistance is now near $2,300.

There is also a connecting bearish trend line forming with resistance near $2,300 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD. The trend line is near the 76.4% Fibonacci retracement level of the downward move from the high of $2,430 to the low of $1,860.

A close above the $2,300 resistance could send the price towards $2,400. The next key resistance is near $2,440. If there is a clear move above $2,400, there could be a trend towards $2,500. The next resistance lies at $2,500, above which Ethereum could rally and test the $2,620 area.

New Fall in ETH?

If Ethereum fails to overcome the $2,300 resistance, it could start a new decline. The initial support on the downside is near the $2,200 level. The first key support could be the $2,080 area. A break lower and close below $2,080 could start another steady decline. In the given case,

Ether could test the $2,000 support. Any further losses could send the price towards the $1,860 level.

Ethereum is trading above $2,200 despite constant profit-taking by ETH traders since October 2023. Ethereum price could recover to $2,551, the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of ETH’s decline from its April 22 high of $3.582 to its June 22 low of $883.42. A daily close below the 50% Fibonacci at $2,232 could invalidate the bullish thesis for Ethereum price.

MACD Hourly Technical Indicators

The MACD for ETH/USD is regaining momentum in the bullish zone.

Hourly RSI: The RSI for ETH/USD is now above the 50 level.

Major Support Level: $2,180.

Major Resistance Level: $2,300.

ETH Forecasts

According to CryptoPredictions, Ethereum started January 2024 at $2,279,941 and is expected to end the month at $2,382,368. During January, the expected maximum price of ETH is $2,598,925 and the minimum is $1,767,269.

ETH price for today (04.01.2024) is forecast to be in the price range of $2,003,557 – $2,946,408. Ethereum price is expected to end at $2,357,126 today.

The price of ETH is expected to be in the price range of $2,043,628 – $3,005,336 tomorrow (01/05/2024). Tomorrow Ethereum is expected to start at $2,404,269 and end the day at $2,476,397.

Analyst Sees Potential 50x Rise to $14, Here’s Why

Crypto analyst Egrag Crypto has expressed optimism regarding the performance of XRP.

Ripple is a decentralized payment system designed to transform how traditional money transfer works. Ranked as the fifth-largest digital currency by market value, Ripple (XRP) has seen major developments in 2023, most notably its back-to-back victories in legal battles with the SEC.

Since early December, XRP price has been range-bound between $0.5762 and $0.6565, lagging behind other altcoins that have seen significant gains due to increased market capital inflows.

However, recent developments surrounding the possible rejection of Bitcoin Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have increased market uncertainty and caused a drop of 10 % in the price of XRP, pushing it towards the $0.500 level.

Legal XRP Price Catalyst

Despite these challenges, one major catalyst could potentially propel XRP to new heights: the ongoing legal clash between Ripple Labs and the SEC regarding XRP sales.

Crypto analyst Egrag Crypto has expressed optimism, stating that a 40X or even 50X boom is possible for XRP, citing the cryptocurrency’s impressive performance in the previous cycle despite the SEC lawsuit. Egrag Crypto stated the following:

“In the last cycle, despite the annoying SEC lawsuit, XRP rose almost 20 times. This time, with its unparalleled legal regulatory clarity, the potential for a 40- or even 50-fold boom looks promising.”

By the numbers, according to Egrag Crypto analysis, at its cycle low of $0.28, a 40x rise could potentially push the price to around $11.

Going further, a 50x jump could see XRP skyrocket to around $14. To put this into perspective, Egrag, compared to Ethereum’s (ETH) previous cycle multiplier of 58X, XRP at $0.28 could reach a staggering $16.

While the future of XRP is promising, Ripple’s lawsuit against the SEC remains a focal point for investors. Understanding the key dates in court proceedings is critical.

Key Dates Revealed for Legal Battle Between Ripple and SEC in 2024

February 12, 2024. Remedies Briefing Begins: Ripple and the SEC will present their respective arguments and proposals regarding potential remedies for the legal dispute on this date. This briefing will provide information on the parties’ positions and suggested resolutions.

March 13, 2024. SEC Files Remedies Report: Following the Remedies Report, the SEC will file a Remedies Report outlining proposed remedies to address alleged violations committed by Ripple. This filing will further clarify the SEC’s stance and the actions they seek against Ripple.

April 12, 2024. Ripple Files Opposition: Ripple will have the opportunity to file its opposition to the SEC’s proposed remedies. They will present their arguments against the SEC’s accusations and offer counterarguments and alternative solutions.

April 29, 2024. SEC responds: The SEC may respond to Ripple’s opposition. They will address Ripple’s arguments and provide additional justification for the proposed solutions.

Currently, XRP price has recovered slightly to the $0.5715 level, with an eye on these key dates that could shape the future, the legal denomination of the token, and its impact on future price action.

While Ripple remains a major player in the cryptocurrency market, it faces new challenges as emerging technologies like Solana gain traction. Despite its established position and loyal user base, Ripple’s ongoing legal battles and increasing competition from newer blockchains have impacted its market position. Investors are now looking beyond Ripple and exploring other cryptocurrencies that promise innovation and growth potential.

Crypto Community Celebrates 15 Years Since Satoshi’s Genesis Block

Today, the crypto community commemorates the 15th anniversary of the genesis block, reflecting on its pivotal role in ushering in a new era of money through the rise of digital assets.

Today, Bitcoin is widely accepted in the United States, the United Kingdom, Asia-Pacific nations such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, the Middle East, and some European markets.

Fifteen years ago, on January 3, 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto, the mastermind behind the Bitcoin (BTC) protocol that sparked the cryptocurrency revolution, successfully mined the inaugural genesis block.

As a reward for this milestone, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin received 50 units of the cryptoasset, which at the time had no value. Alternatively known as Block 0, the genesis block contained a secret message that read “The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.”

New Age of Money Celebration

The Bitcoin protocol has been transformed since its inception with the mining of the first block by its creator. The network is adopted by both companies and individual miners who actively contribute to securing activities in the Proof-of-Work (PoW) protocol. Its role is to confirm and verify blocks before transactions are executed on the blockchain.

Miners are rewarded with gas fees that users pay to interact with the protocol and create new bitcoins. In 2012, the same reward Nakamoto received for running the genesis block was reduced from 50 BTC to 25 after the first Bitcoin halving.

Four years later, in 2016, the reward was reduced to 12.5 BTC; In 2020, miners were rewarded 6.25 bitcoins. With the next halving scheduled for April this year, it is anticipated that miners will receive 3,125 bitcoins.

The value of the cryptoasset has increased significantly since the genesis block. Bitcoin is currently trading at $42,829, compared to $38,500 in the same period last year.

Bitcoin’s dominance in the cryptocurrency market has increased to 52.42%, reaching levels not seen since April 2021. The crypto asset has a market capitalization of $841 billion, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Bitcoin Becomes Official Currency

In addition to the increase in value, Bitcoin has achieved other important milestones since the genesis block. Countries such as El Salvador and the Central African Republic (CAR) officially adopted the cryptoasset as legal tender. Both countries made bitcoin an official currency to be used alongside their respective fiat for the exchange of goods and services.

In terms of regional adoption, Bitcoin is widely accepted in the United States, the United Kingdom, Asia-Pacific nations such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, the Middle East, and European markets.

The United States is currently considering introducing bills that would regulate the entire cryptocurrency market to provide guidance on the issuance and use of digital assets, including BTC.

Bitcoin Welcome as Payment Option

The crypto asset has also received recognition as a payment method for certain corporate institutions. Coinciding with its 15th anniversary, Phoenix Motor revealed that its subsidiary EdisonFuture, which deals in electric trucks, will accept payments in BTC. Companies such as PayPal, Microsoft, Starbucks, AT&T, Overstock, Twitch, Amazon, Whole Foods, Home Depot, CheapAir, Newegg, Namecheap, Ferrari and Rakuten have adopted the crypto asset for payments.

In terms of taxes, Switzerland recently revealed that it will allow citizens and residents of the nation to pay taxes using BTC. The Swiss city of Lugano made the announcement in December 2023, noting that residents of the region can now pay municipal taxes in BTC. Liechtenstein Prime Minister Daniel Risch announced last October that the country will also accept bitcoins as tax payments.

Why Tron (TRX) and Chainlink (LINK) Investors Are Eyeing the Newly Launched Pushd (PUSHD) Pre-Sale

Here’s why TRX and LINK holders are signing up for the PUSHD pre-sale.

Tron (TRX) and Chainlink (LINK) are among the established altcoins that have seen a resurgence in 2023. However, entering the new year, both LINK and TRX holders are looking to diversify into projects with an appreciation ceiling higher.

In 2024, a potential blue chip in its pre-sale phase emerged as the main investment opportunity so far: Pushd (PUSHD). Since then, Pushd pre-sales have reached over 2,000 registrations and counting, generating buzz ahead of the next bull market.

Tron (TRX): Prime for a 3x in 2024?

Tron (TRX) is up 96% from early 2023 to early 2024, making it one of the comeback altcoins that lost a lot of value during the crypto winter of 2022. Currently, TRX is trading at $0.108 and the positive market and social sentiment about Tron in the cryptocurrency world could lead Tron to surpass the $0.30 threshold by the end of 2024.

In December 2023, Tron crossed over 200 million accounts, which has led main cryptocurrency analysts to believe that Tron could have a solid performance moving forward. Adoption grows in the coming years.

Chainlink (LINK) Holders Continue to Accumulate

Chainlink (LINK) is testing the $16 level as 2024 begins, as LINK token prices begin to regain lost ground after a correction phase until late 2023. According to on-chain analytics, Chainlink experienced growth in transactions in 2023. This is indicative of growing interest which could forecast further movement across the crypto market for Chainlink.

Despite LINK’s steady rise, on-chain data shows that there is still room for improvement and the token remains undervalued. A key metric, the network value to transactions (NVT) ratio, has declined over the past three months, indicating that the amount of activity and investor interest in the token justifies a higher price.

Pushd (PUSHD) to Take Decentralized E-Commerce Global in 2024 with Pre-Sale

Pushd (PUSHD) is attracting a lot of attention from Chainlink and Tron investors in 2024 after the decentralized e-commerce protocol announced the launch of its (PUSHD) token pre-sale at the beginning of the year. Since then, Pushd has attracted thousands of interested pre-sale participants in the last 24 hours.

Cryptocurrency watchers predict that (PUSHD) could well outpace the growth of more established coins with large market caps like Chainlink and Tron in 2024, bidding well for the pre-sale token’s peak price in 2024.

Additionally, the vision behind Pushd is gaining ground. For too long, online buyers and sellers have been looking for a robust decentralized solution for online marketplaces like eBay and Amazon.

Pushd has the team, the experience and the ambition to build a robust decentralized e-commerce platform with the benefits of no listing fees, low platform costs and minimal KYC. (PUSHD) will support the exchange of value on the Pushd platform, allowing holders to generate income from revenue sharing on the fees merchants incur when using Pushd.

(PUSHD) has the potential to become 50x by 2024, and that is evident with the growing interest around its pre-sale.

(PUSHD) Expected to Make a Sensation in 2024 as a Top Investment Opportunity

The pre-sale (PUSHD) allows early investors to take advantage of discounted token launch prices of just $0.035. If bullish sentiment returns in 2024 ahead of the Bitcoin halving, (PUSHD) has all the momentum in the world to outperform LINK and TRX by 50x.

Grayscale Files Amended Application for Bitcoin ETF Without Disclosing Authorized Participants, And Other News

Grayscale surprises by submitting modified application for a Bitcoin ETF, omitting details about authorized participants.

Cryptocurrency asset manager Grayscale has filed an amended application for a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). Generating surprise by not revealing the details of the authorized participants in the documentation filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas highlighted the revised filing on social media. Noting that Grayscale specified that authorized participants could only pay and receive cash for ETF shares. However, the company left the names of those authorized participants blank, a detail the SEC usually expects to see in filings.

“I’m not sure why, since the SEC wants to see it and they’ve been pretty confident about having one. Also, no payout (that I could see). That’s a big open question too,” Balchunas said.

Udi Wertheimer Passionately Defends Bitcoin Ordinals

Udi Wertheimer defends the permanence of Bitcoin Ordinals and challenges those who seek their elimination. Despite criticism and skepticism towards the concept of Ordinals, which resemble non-fungible tokens (NFTs) but operate on the Bitcoin blockchain, the cryptocurrency advocate argues that these should be valued and explored.

In a post on X, Wertheimer stresses that he is not trying to persuade others about the legitimacy of the inscriptions/BRC20s/stamps. He additionally acknowledges that there are divergent opinions on whether they are spam or scams.

Wertheimer’s lengthy post on X starts as follows:

“HOW TO KILL ORDINALS

I’ve been contacted by multiple laser-eye maxis, and some bitcoin developers, who tried to understand ‘what’s going on’ and ‘how can we stop this’.”

The expert urges the community not to underestimate the enthusiasts and developers involved in the Ordinals space, highlighting the skill of many teams in the development. Encouraging his 183,400 followers, Wertheimer urges them to experiment with Bitcoin Ordinals.

Mickey Mouse’s Steamboat Willie in the Public Domain, but with Limitations

Mickey Mouse’s 1928 version of “Steamboat Willie” has arrived on OpenSea. Despite the celebration, a lawyer warns that although this version is in the public domain, there are important legal limitations. The Mickey Mouse brand and trademark remain private, placing restrictions on the creation of derivative products.

While the prospect of using the 1928 version of Mickey Mouse has many excited, Oscar Franklin Tan, chief legal officer at Atlas, a core contributor to NFT platform Enjin, cautions that there are legal limitations that should not be overlooked.

Tan points out that under US law, only the specific 1928 depiction of Mickey Mouse, with its black-and-white features, longer nose and no gloves, is in the public domain. However, he emphasizes that the trademark and brand, separate from the character, are still private. In other words, although the 1928 version can be used, creating original Mickey Mouse products is not as easy as it seems.
