Vanguard CEO Retires, Will He Lift Bitcoin Ban?

Vanguard’s current CEO, Tim Buckley, announced that he would retire at the end of 2024. The company was criticized for being one of the only asset managers that did not offer Bitcoin ETFs to its clients. There is much speculation about whether or not Buckley’s replacement will overturn this rule.

In a significant change of direction, Vanguard Group announced the retirement of CEO Tim Buckley at the end of 2024, marking the end of an era for one of the world’s leading asset management firms.

With Buckley’s departure, the financial industry is in the throes of speculation about possible policy changes his successor might pursue, particularly in relation to Vanguard’s current stance on Bitcoin ETFs.

Under Buckley’s leadership, Vanguard experienced remarkable growth, with assets under management increasing by 80% to a staggering $9 trillion.

Buckley joined Vanguard in 1991 and was appointed CEO in 2018 after covering several roles, including chief investment officer before being named CEO. During his time as CEO, Vanguard has expanded its assets under management by 80% to $9 trillion.

Former Vanguard CEO Blocked Bitcoin spot ETFs

Buckley’s tenure was characterized by a deep commitment to the firm’s mission of maximizing the success of its clients’ investments. Buckley stated, “It has been an absolute privilege to lead Vanguard and help advance the company’s mission.”

However, Vanguard’s conservative approach to cryptocurrency, especially its decision to block access to Bitcoin ETFs, has positioned it as an outlier among asset managers. This stance has sparked a notable reaction from clients and investors eager to diversify their portfolios with digital assets.

This move has sparked considerable debate in the financial community. Bloomberg senior analyst Eric Balchunas suggested that Vanguard’s anti-crypto stance could evolve over time. He hinted at a possible change in strategy to adapt to the growing demand for cryptocurrency investments.

“Vanguard’s stance against bitcoin ETFs is entirely on brand and would have made Bogle proud. That said, I think they will soften in the coming years as they build their advisory business, they will need to have access to alternative asset classes.”

Starting this year, a Vanguard spokesperson said the company will no longer accept the purchase of cryptocurrency products, including Bitcoin futures ETFs. This decision was presumably going to help refocus on products that more closely align with your core values.

“In addition to spot Bitcoin ETFs not being available for purchase on the Vanguard platform, effective immediately, Vanguard will no longer accept the purchase of cryptocurrency products, including Bitcoin futures ETFs.”

Vanguard: Will the Next CEO Embrace Cryptocurrencies?

In this context, Gregory Davis, current chief investment officer of Vanguard and recently appointed president, emerges as a fundamental figure. He has strong investment management experience and a proven track record at Vanguard.

Davis is now poised to take on a more significant role in shaping the future direction of the company. His extensive experience also includes participation in the United States Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Additionally, in his expanded role, Davis will oversee all aspects of the firm’s investment management, retirement business and services for Vanguard’s financial advisory clients.

As Vanguard embarks on the process of selecting Buckley’s successor, many questions remain unanswered. Will the new CEO take a more open stance toward cryptocurrencies, or will Vanguard maintain its conservative trajectory?

Given the company’s extensive influence in the asset management sector, the decision of its next leader will undoubtedly have implications. These will be powerful for the integration of digital assets into conventional investment portfolios.

Top Altcoins to Watch for 10x Profits in March

The cryptocurrency market recovered from its downturn in 2022 and regained its former glory as several digital assets surpassed their previous all-time highs (ATHs).

February has proven to be a very positive month for the cryptocurrency market, with the total market capitalization increasing from approximately $1.62 trillion at the beginning of the month to over $2.33 trillion. This represents an increase of more than 40%. Since the year has just begun, there are numerous factors in the coming months that could further improve the performance of the altcoin market.

Explored below are potential altcoins that deserve attention in March and could post 10x gains.

Bitcoin’s Expected ATH Could Boost Emerging Altcoins

Bitcoin and Ethereum have broken through significant resistance levels and are now only 10% to 15% away from their ATHs. This has generated a growing sense of anticipation among investors, with expectations that these two leading cryptocurrencies could reach new ATHs in March.

Such a milestone could catalyze a significant rise in the altcoin sector, with some newer altcoins potentially achieving gains of up to 10x in the run-up to the Bitcoin halving event. However, major altcoins are expected not to see such dramatic increases. Instead, memecoins and AI-related cryptocurrencies, along with a selection of emerging altcoins, are expected to lead the growth of this market during this period.

Pepe Coin

Pepe Coin has become a leader in the memecoin sector over the past few weeks, with an impressive gain of over 181% in one month. Its value has seen exponential increases during minor Bitcoin rallies.

If the price of Bitcoin hits its all-time high in March, we could witness the price of the Pepe coin rise to $0.00003, effectively removing a zero from its current value.

Dogwifhat (WIF)

The hype surrounding meme coins is making a strong comeback, and the Solana-based token dogwifhat (WIF) has witnessed a significant price surge. In the last three days, the value of WIF has skyrocketed by 135%, as the meme coin market experiences positive momentum.

WIF has even surpassed long-established players like Floki (FLOKI) in market capitalization.

Many in the community are optimistic about WIF’s potential for further gains, especially since it is currently only listed on a few exchanges and has yet to achieve a top listing. level platforms like Binance or Coinbase.

With the token now approaching the $1 mark, being just 22% away, reaching this level could attract widespread media attention and fuel additional enthusiasm around the token. This could even shoot the price up 10x in March if sentiment is favorable.

COTI

The core token of the COTI Layer 2 network experienced a notable increase in value during February, with an increase of over 280%. In the last week alone, the price of COTI has increased, more than doubling with an approximate 130% gain.

As a result, there is a good chance that COTI price will generate a 10x profit in March as market sentiment is now extremely bullish.

SingularityNET (AGIX)

SingularityNET, along with its native token AGIX, seeks to bridge the gap between blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. However, its price has seen some fluctuations in recent months.

The AGIX token has shown strong performance in recent weeks, rising more than 160% in one month. Furthermore, if the BTC price continues to rise in March, AI tokens could see significant momentum, with AGIX potentially leading this rally and approaching a value close to $5 by the end of the month.

Hong Kong Ends License Applications for Cryptocurrency Exchanges

Hong Kong has ended accepting license applications for cryptocurrency exchanges as of February 29, announcing that non-compliant platforms will have to close operations locally shortly. The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong established that all cryptocurrency exchanges in the region that have not submitted license applications must cease operations by May 31, 2024.

A notice issued by the Hong Kong SFC highlights the importance of investors using virtual asset trading platforms to prepare in advance. In addition, it is recommended that they migrate towards those that have already obtained operating licenses or have submitted applications.

To date, the SFC has formally granted licenses to two cryptocurrency trading operators in Hong Kong. This is the case of OSL Digital Securities on December 15, 2020. As well as HashKey Exchange on November 9, 2022.

Exploit in Seneca Stablecoin Protocol Triggers $6 Million Loss

Stablecoin protocol Seneca experienced an exploit that resulted in a loss of over $6 million on the Ethereum and Arbitrum networks. The attack, targeting the protocol’s smart contract approval mechanisms, was executed by an unknown attacker who exploited a vulnerability identified as an “arbitrary calling issue” by Blocksec security analysts.

Blocksec revealed that Seneca’s smart contracts lacked code that would allow the team to pause them, placing the onus on users to revoke permissions. The stolen assets are estimated to amount to more than 1,900 ETH, equivalent to $6 million.

ASIC Imposes Travel Restrictions on Former Blockchain Global Director Over Fears He Will Abscond

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has obtained travel restriction orders against Liang Guo, also known as Allan Guo, who was the former director of the defunct Blockchain Global Limited.

Australia’s federal court ruled, among other measures, that Guo cannot leave or attempt to leave the country until August 20, 2024, ASIC announced yesterday.

These orders were issued following a hearing on February 20, 2024. They also arise due to ASIC’s concerns that Guo may attempt to leave the country. Importantly, Guo did not attend the hearing.

Guo is currently being investigated by ASIC, as are former Blockchain Global directors Samuel Xue Lee and Zijang (Ryan) Xu, following the collapse of the ACX Exchange cryptocurrency exchange operated by Blockchain Global.

The hearing was held in Guo’s absence; therefore, he has not yet had the opportunity to respond to ASIC’s application or the basis upon which ASIC claims the orders are necessary.

USA: Congressman Lost $120,000 for Selling His Cryptocurrencies “Too Soon”

Congressman Shri Thanedar would have reaped a decent profit of $120,000 if he had held the BTC, LTC, and ETH he recently sold. According to a new statement, his holdings would have been worth at least $486,331.85 if he had not sold the assets before his raise. Congress can trade in stocks and cryptocurrencies; Congress members could face fines of $1,000 for operations that could conflict with their job responsibility.

US Democratic Congressman Shri Thanedar lost at least $120,000 selling Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) before their recent price surge. Thanedar lost a potential 30% return on its cryptocurrency holdings as Congress tightens financial disclosure rules.

A presentation on Congress Trading revealed that Thanedar sold between $150,000 and $250,000 worth of BTC and between $100,000 and $250,000 worth of ETH on February 5, 2024.

US Congressman Loses $120,000 in Cryptocurrency Profits

Since the congressman sold his crypto, the prices of these three assets have increased. Following the rise in cryptocurrency prices in February, the congressman would have had at least $330,819 in BTC, $139,156.04 in ETH, and $16,356.23 in Litecoin (LTC). These holdings would have totaled $486,331.85, compared to the $365,000 they were worth when he sold them. These calculations assume that the congressman purchased the minimum amounts in his disclosure, which is $150,000 for BTC, $100,000 for Ethereum, and $75,000 for Litecoin.

Members of Congress are not prevented from investing in stocks and cryptocurrencies, but they cannot do so if there is a conflict of interest. They must also make periodic statements. The United States Code of Ethics for Public Officials prohibits bribery and participation in financial interests that may interfere with duty:

“Employees shall not hold financial interests that conflict with the conscientious performance of duty. Employees shall not engage in financial transactions using nonpublic Government information or allow the improper use of such information to further any private interest.”

In other recent cryptocurrency purchases, Congressman Michael A. Collins revealed an ETH purchase of between $15,001 and $50,000 in January. He purchased between $1,001 and $15,001 of ETH in four separate transactions last December.

Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo), who is believed to be pro-crypto, revealed a purchase of between $50,001 and $100,000 worth of Bitcoin on August 16, 2021. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex said in 2021 that she does not purchase Bitcoin to do her job responsibly.

USA: Congress Members Who Did Not Report Their Cryptocurrencies

New York Mayor Eric Adams did not disclose the assets in his wallet to the Conflict of Interest Board in 2021. Adams pledged to have received his first three paychecks in Bitcoin after Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said he would do the same.

Adams’ staff said they had misunderstood the question on a disclosure form and vowed to correct the error. In 2022, a Business Insider report found that North Carolina Republican Madison Cawthorn failed to properly report an investment in the anti-Joe Biden cryptocurrency “Let’s Go Brandon.” He also late reported a purchase of up to $265,000 worth of Ethereum in two purchases during December 2021.

Colorado Republican Lauren Boebert reportedly failed to disclose between $5,000 and $80,000 in crypto investments, stocks and brokerage funds owned by her husband.

Politicians caught trading stocks on insider information while in office can be fined $1,000. If they do not get rid of their holdings within 30 days, they will have to pay $1,000. In addition, 10% of the shares traded in violation of the law.

Bitcoin Set to Reclaim $64,000, Now Returns Halfway to $63,000 – New ATH Coming in March?

The leading cryptocurrency rose as much as 14% on Wednesday night to momentarily hit $64,000 (its first move above $60,000 since November 2021) before reversing some of the gains. BTC was trading at $62,540 according to Coingecko data.

In a bright start to March, Bitcoin’s feverish activity set it up for its biggest monthly rise in nearly three years early Thursday morning. Money invested in bitcoin exchange-traded funds is generating huge profits, and bitcoin is now just a stone’s throw away from hitting an all-time high.

There have been several reasons for the strong rise experienced by Bitcoin in recent days. First of all, there is the tailwind of the approval of spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the US. On Tuesday they recorded cumulative trading volumes of $3 billion.

Another element that is driving the price of the cryptocurrency is the “halving” (the halving of the reward obtained by the “miners” of this cryptocurrency) that will take place in a few weeks. And finally, the increases in recent sessions come from the software company and crypto investor MicroStrategy, which had recently purchased about 3,000 bitcoins for a total of $155 million.

Investor Frenzy as Bitcoin Prepares to Reclaim $64,000

Due to “fear of missing out” on potential price increases, investors are rushing to buy cryptocurrencies, bringing back memories of the cryptocurrency bull market that took the leading cryptocurrency asset to an all-time high of around $69,000 in November 2021.

Since the beginning of the year so far, the value of bitcoin has more than tripled, recovering from a 64% drop in 2022. This is an incredible recovery from a series of scandals and bankruptcies that had called into question the sustainability of digital assets.

Meanwhile, sudden changes in price have been rattling both bulls and bears. According to CoinGlass, centralized exchanges had short liquidations of $176 million and long liquidations of $86.1 million from the previous day.

Crypto on the Rise

After prices crashed during the crypto winter of 2022, investors lost interest in spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds. However, the approval and introduction of these funds to the US market this year has revived interest in cryptocurrencies.

According to LSEG statistics, the top 10 bitcoin spot ETFs recorded inflows of $420 million on Wednesday alone, the highest amount in almost two weeks. Voltage increased when the three best-known ones, operated by Grayscale, Fidelity and BlackRock (IBIT.O), sparked completely new interest.

Ahead of the April halving event, which occurs every four years and halves the token generation rate as well as the rewards paid to miners, more traders have been flocking to Bitcoin.

Expert Opinion

“Bitcoin optimism is driven by factors such as BTC ETF spot inflows, the impending halving that reduces new issuance, and renewed confidence in the crypto asset class,” according to Jonathon Miller, CEO of Kraken Australia. “When people see these types of increases in a short period of time. . . then it just draws people in and FOMO kicks in,” said Timo Lehes, co-founder of blockchain company Swarm.

“We could see the all-time high being surpassed at any time,” said Simon Peters, an analyst at trading firm eToro. “The driving force behind this is undoubtedly [bitcoin funds].”

A New ATH in March?

As Bitcoin experiences brief but notable fluctuations, reaching $64,000 before retreating to the $62,000 mark, the cryptocurrency market remains dynamic and full of anticipation. Investors and enthusiasts are closely monitoring price movements, speculating on the possibility of a new all-time high (ATH) in March.

El Salvador’s Bet on Bitcoin: President Bukele Promises Not to Sell Amid Market Highs

President Nayib Bukele used his social media platform X to tweet about Bitcoin and El Salvador’s huge Bitcoin reserves. El Salvador attracted the world’s attention when it legitimized the use of Bitcoin alongside the US dollar in September 2021.

In a bold statement, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele said that the country will not sell bitcoins, emphasizing the principle that “1 BTC will equal 1 BTC in the end.” President Bukele also highlighted that there is a possibility of making profits of more than 40% if the country sells its bitcoins if they are tied to the market value.

Bukele took on X to post the following:

“When Bitcoin’s market price was low, they wrote literally thousands of articles about our supposed losses. Now that Bitcoin’s market price is way up, if we were to sell, we would make a profit of over 40% (just from the market purchases), and our main source of BTC is now our citizenship program. We won’t sell, or course; at the end 1 BTC = 1 BTC (this was true when the market price was low and it’s true now); but it’s very telling that the authors of those hit pieces, the “analysts”, the “experts”, the “journalists”, are totally silent now. Remember this next time they spill lies again about El Salvador.”

President Bukele: “El Salvador Will Not Sell its Bitcoin”

Bukele referred to the past incident that El Salvador had when the price of Bitcoin was not yet stable. He claimed that back then, many media publications misreported the country’s BTC fund investments and wrote thousands of articles about their losses. But now, due to the growth of the bitcoin market, Bukele noted that the profits will be more than 40% from the purchase in the market alone.

El Salvador’s Main Source of Bitcoin is the Citizenship Program, Says the President

Bukele said his main source of Bitcoin is El Salvador’s citizenship program. On December 21, 2023, El Salvador’s Congress approved a new immigration law that will grant accelerated citizenship to foreigners who make “donations” of Bitcoin (BTC) for government social and economic development programs.

Regardless of the expected profit, Bukele emphasized that they “will not sell; in the end, 1 BTC = 1 BTC. This was true when the market price was low, and it is true now.” The president pointed out that those critics and media channels that previously wrote negatively about Bitcoin adoption in El Salvador are now silent.

El Salvador Will Continue with Bitcoin as Legal Tender

In the end, it is El Salvador’s openness to Bitcoin adoption and its willingness to step forward and be leaders in this new technology that inspires cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

Nayib Bukele was re-elected again as president with 87% of the votes in his favor. The government of El Salvador plans to launch bond-backed Bitcoin in early 2024 and is going to begin construction of Bitcoin City, the tax-free crypto land proposed by President Bukele.

Despite the success of Bitcoin in El Salvador, the IMF has been at the forefront of warning El Salvador about the potential repercussions of adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, forcing the country to stick to its cryptocurrency efforts.

President Bukele’s firm decision to continue owning El Salvador’s Bitcoin amid market fluctuations is an indication of the country’s resolve toward cryptocurrencies. With its excellent plan for Bitcoin City, supporters are eagerly awaiting the positive development of El Salvador, actively attracting the attention of the whole world.
