Prisma Finance’s Hacker Imposes Conditions on Protocol

A hacker responsible for an $11.6 million breach at Prisma Finance has outlined conditions for returning stolen assets. The hacker insists on an online conference in which team members would reveal their identities and address past mistakes. Despite the skepticism of the community and the use of tools to mix cryptocurrencies, the hacker assures that the stolen funds will be returned.

A white hat hacker (or ethical hacker) recently breached the Prisma Finance decentralized protocol, making off with $11.6 million. The hackers’ actions of this type aim to reveal the vulnerabilities and security gaps in digital protocols. This encourages developers to be more attentive.

The antithesis of these are the black-hats, who are malicious and their activities turn them into criminals. Thus, when a protocol receives a black hat attack, it is a theft. In that sense, it is unlikely that the funds will be recovered. A white hat attacker usually returns the funds, but leaves some penalty.

The latter was precisely the case with Prisma Finance. The attacker violated the protocol and without any restrictions extracted $11.6 million from the app’s clients. Although the attacker sent the funds to Tornado Cash (something criminals typically do), he later claimed to be a white hat.

In his contact with the protocol, the anonymous attacker promised to return the funds in exchange for a penalty, which consists of the protocol founders revealing their identity in a live broadcast and apologizing to their users and investors.

Hacker Shares Conditions to Return Prisma Finance Funds

The Prisma Finance hacker’s pressure measure aims to expose the irresponsibility of the developers. Consequently, the team behind the project will have to publicly acknowledge its laxity in monitoring security.

On the other hand, the attacker asked the protocol board not to make any accusations against him. Furthermore, they are obliged to stop their aggressive and accusatory language against them within 24 hours. Until now, those responsible for the protocol maintain that they are victims of a hacker.

He also wants the team to address past mistakes, reveal the smart contract auditor and present plans to improve security measures. Additionally, Prisma Finance must also inform the community about contract deployment strategies and emergency response protocols.

The hacker also expressed displeasure with terms like “exploit” and “hack” in the post-mortem audit. He emphasized that the illicit transactions complied with the terms of the smart contracts agreed to by all parties:

“You cannot agree on something with others and then judge that it is wrong or true. There are no human rights. They should have been more careful before deploying their contract. I hope this helps people be more careful when participating in DeFi, makes teams more responsible, and changes everyone’s mind about these kinds of things.”

More about Prisma Finance’s Hacker

The hacker’s method of exploiting the Prisma Finance vulnerability was through a malicious contract. The funds he received came from FixedFloat and he then applied the contract to extract the $11.6 million.

The hacker refuted accusations of malicious intent and further urged Prisma Finance to retract the allegations within 12 hours. Despite these demands for the return of stolen funds, the cryptocurrency community questions the hacker’s white hat status.

He has used the OFAC-sanctioned Tornado Cash cryptocurrency mixing tool to obfuscate his transactions. Blockchain security company Peckshield reported that addresses belonging to the hacker moved more than 1,000 ETH through the mixer.

Bitcoin Whale Preference Remains Around Arbitrage

Below are the details of these large investors’ trading during the week.

Cryptocurrency arbitrage trading is a type of trading strategy in which investors take advantage of slight price discrepancies of a digital asset across various markets or exchanges. In its simplest form, cryptocurrency arbitrage trading, is the process of buying a digital asset on one exchange and selling it (almost) simultaneously on another, where the price is higher.

Despite the positive rally in Bitcoin price this week, whales maintained a pace closer to arbitrage than accumulation. Trading volume rose dramatically, while the dominance of exchange portfolio movements increased slightly.

Arbitrage Maintained Dominance Among Bitcoin Whales’ Preferences

Unlike previous weeks, during the past seven days the price of BTC came out of lethargy and recovered 70K. However, Bitcoin whales seem to be wary of these positive price movements and continued to trade between CEX wallets. In total, 907,000 BTC were traded from whale wallets this week in all possible directions.

19.29% of the coins (175,000 BTC) were sent from the centralized exchanges to the unknown wallets in a total of 350 transactions. The largest amount of coins, 120,000 BTC, issued from Binance.

11.25% of the coins (102,000 BTC) were sent from unknown wallets to exchange wallets in a total of 265 transactions. This trend is considered as a possible sale. The largest reception was on Binance with 65,000 BTC of this total.

46.31% of the coins (420,000 BTC) were distributed between wallets of various centralized exchanges. This type of transaction is for arbitrage purposes to take advantage of price differentials between different platforms. Here 520 transactions were reported. Meanwhile, the busiest route was from Binance to Kraken with 90,000 BTC and from Coinbase to Binance, with 60,000 BTC.

Finally, 23.15% of the coins (210,000 BTC) were sent mysteriously between different unknown wallets. Here, Bitcoin whales made 630 transactions.

Other Information of Interest This Week

This week, the price differentials between the main trading houses were enormous. To this must be added that a large amount of funds left KuCoin after the lawsuits in the US became known. Below, we present some additional data.

Wednesday, March 27, was the day with the highest number of shipments from exchanges to unknown wallets. During that day, whales sent 45,000 BTC into the accumulation. Of the total of 350 transactions from exchanges to unknown wallets, 275 were operated from Binance alone. The second place of departures went to Kraken with 45 and the podium was closed by Coinbase with 20 transactions.

The day of greatest selling pressure was Monday, March 25, when 30,000 BTC were sent from unknown wallets to exchanges. The largest recipient of transactions that week was Binance with 180, followed by Kraken and Coinbase with 40 and 30, respectively.

Wednesday the 27th was the day of greatest trading between wallets from different exchanges, with a volume of 85,000 BTC spread over a total of 120 transactions.

Based on the above, it can be concluded that Bitcoin whale activity is at a hot spot, with trading of almost 1 million BTC.

It is important to keep in mind that tracking whales can help understand and contextualize market movements, but financial decisions should not be based solely on these methods, since this would be doing away with other very important sources of information.

Therefore, investment decisions must be supported by research itself, and not just by monitoring whale movements.

Bitcoin ETFs Witness Fourth Consecutive Day of Rising Inflows and Accumulate 500,000 BTC Worth $35 Billion

Despite the uncertainty over Ethereum ETFs, the overall projection for Bitcoin is favorable.

The crypto landscape is evolving rapidly, and Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are gaining significant momentum since their long-awaited regulatory approval earlier this year.

Said promising development continued until late March, when Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded net inflows of $179 million for the fourth consecutive day, according to data from SoSo Value.

Specifically, cumulative net inflow as of March 28 reached an impressive $12.13 billion, and total daily net inflow amounted to $183 million. This positive trajectory was driven by BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETF, which saw a significant net capital inflow of $95.12 million.

On the other hand, Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund attracted $69.09 million in net inflows. However, the outlook is not entirely positive. Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust, an industry leader before the introduction of spot ETFs, saw steady net outflows.

On March 28 alone, approximately $105 million exited the product, highlighting a potential shift in investor preference toward newer, more transparent spot ETFs that offer greater clarity. While Bitcoin spot ETFs saw an impressive launch, it is crucial to note the gradual decline in trading volumes since their peak in early March.

Statistics from The Block reveal that cumulative volumes steadily approached $200 billion, currently standing at $177.9 billion as of March 27. The overall trend is downward after the initial excitement surrounding the launch of these products.

Bitcoin ETF Accumulates 500,000 BTC Worth $35 Billion

Despite declining volumes, assets under management (AUM) and on-chain holdings of spot Bitcoin ETFs have remained stable since peaking earlier this month. HODL15Capital, a leading ETF analyst, reports that nine recently launched Bitcoin spot ETFs quickly amassed a hefty 500,000 BTC since January. Surprisingly, this substantial 2.54% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply amounts to $35 billion in just 54 trading days.

From a broader perspective, all Bitcoin spot funds in the US market, including Grayscale, hold approximately 835,000 BTC, which constitutes around 4% of the total Bitcoin supply. A positive reversal occurred this week, with ETF inflows rebounding to $845 million. This inflow effectively countered the outflow trend seen since March 18, indicating renewed investor confidence in the digital asset space.

To further complicate the situation, BitWise filed an S-1 filing for an Ethereum ETF on March 28. ETF expert Eric Balchunas expressed doubts about its approval in May, estimating a slim probability of 25%. He cited the SEC’s opaque communication as a potential hurdle, possibly leading to further setbacks.

Bullish Signals for Bitcoin

Despite the uncertainty over Ethereum ETFs, the overall projection for Bitcoin is favorable. Currently trading at $69870, BTC price maintains a comfortable position above key technical indicators, the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages (EMA), affirming an upward trajectory.

Bitcoin is up 22% in the last 30 days and is still on the momentum of an upward trajectory. A resurgence to the $72,000 level could catalyze a move towards the March 14 all-time high (ATH) of $73,808. A breakout from this point could push Bitcoin towards the $75,000 milestone.

In the coming days, market participants should closely monitor BTC spot ETF market rumors, SEC activity, and the US economic calendar, which could influence price movements. While a return to the ATH seems possible, a drop below the crucial $69,000 support level could signal a correction towards the $64,000 support zone.

Detained Binance Executive Sues Nigerian Government

In late February, two senior Binance managers were arrested in Nigeria. One managed to escape and the other sued the local government. He claimed that his arrest was contrary to the country’s constitution and demanded his immediate release.

Amid Nigeria’s crackdown on cryptocurrency activities, one of the detained Binance executives, Tigran Gambaryan, has taken legal action against Nigeria’s National Security Advisor (NSA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging a violation of their basic human rights.

Gambaryan, who serves as Binance’s Head of Financial Crimes Enforcement, was arrested in February along with fellow Binance member Nadeem Anjarwalla.

Executive Alleges Violation of Rights in Detention in Nigeria

According to local media reports, Gambaryan has filed a lawsuit seeking a declaration that his detention and the confiscation of his international passport violate the provisions of the country’s constitution. In his legal motion, Gambaryan asked the court to order the NSA and EFCC to release him from custody and return his passport immediately.

Binance’s Head of Financial Crimes Compliance also requested a permanent injunction to prevent the defendants and their agents from further arresting him with any investigation of the exchange’s operations in the country. Gambaryan urged the court to force the defendants to publicly apologize, arguing that his presence in Nigeria was to honor the invitation of the Office of the National Security Adviser and EFCC to discuss matters related to Binance in the country. The executive claimed that he had not committed any crimes during the meeting and that he had not been officially informed of any personal crimes committed in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the other detained Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, managed to escape from government custody about a month after his initial arrest, as reported earlier this week.

According to information gathered, Anjarwalla stayed with Gambaryan in a guest house in Abuja. During Ramadan, guards took Anjarwalla to a nearby mosque to pray, from which he allegedly escaped and left Abuja on a Middle Eastern airline.

Anjarwalla also filed a similar complaint with the Nigerian government.

Binance Faces Tax Evasion Charges

In a related development, the Nigerian government filed tax evasion charges against Binance, with Anjarwalla and Gambaryan as the second and third defendants. The charges, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), accuse Binance of non-payment of value added tax, corporate income tax, failure to file tax returns and complicity in helping clients evade taxes through its platform.

Nigerian authorities have filed four charges against the crypto exchange related to tax evasion. The process began at the end of February. The advisor to the country’s president then called for blocking the platform due to possible manipulation of the Nigerian naira. As a result, the authorities became interested in the type of Binance activity. They said Binance may be guilty of laundering at least $2.6 billion, which cannot be traced.

The Binance hearing will take place on April 4. To re-arrest the fugitive administrator of a crypto platform, Nigerian authorities will ask Interpol for help, a local publication reported.

Currently, the exchange’s native token, Binance Coin (BNB), is trading at $617. Over the past month, BNB has shown a consistent upward trend, experiencing a notable increase of over 47%. This rise has brought the token closer to its previous all-time high of $686, which was reached in May 2021.

Impact of Cryptocurrencies on Money’sTraditional Concept

In the last decade, cryptocurrencies have emerged as a disruptive force, challenging the very foundations of the traditional financial system.

From the inception of Bitcoin in 2009 to the explosion of other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and Ripple, there has been a profound and transformative phenomenon, that has changed the way people think about and manage money.

Breaking Transaction Borders

One of the most notable aspects of the impact of cryptocurrencies is their influence on international remittances. Traditionally, sending money across borders has been an expensive and time-consuming process.

Cryptocurrencies, with their decentralized nature, have changed this paradigm. By eliminating the need for intermediaries, they facilitate faster and more affordable transfers, breaking economic barriers and democratizing access to financial services.

Decentralization as a Pillar

Another crucial aspect is the concept of decentralization. While traditional banks depend on centralized institutions, cryptocurrencies base their operation on blockchain technology.

This decentralization not only provides greater security and transparency to transactions, but also eliminates the need to trust centralized authorities. The adoption of blockchain technology offers immutable records, reducing the risks associated with fraud and manipulation.

Financial Inclusion for All

Cryptocurrencies have opened a path towards financial inclusion, a terrain that traditional banks have struggled to fully conquer. With around 1.7 billion adults lacking basic banking services, according to the World Bank, cryptocurrencies have become an accessible alternative, as only a smartphone and Internet connection are needed to participate in this ecosystem, empowering those who previously They were excluded from the formal banking system.

In fact, Web3, based on technologies such as blockchain and smart contracts, further expands the opportunities for financial inclusion. Through decentralized applications (dApps) and blockchain-based platforms, unbanked people can access a diverse range of financial services, including loans, savings and investments, bypassing traditional financial intermediaries.

Business and Institutional Integration

On the other hand, the integration of cryptocurrencies into the business fabric could result in faster and more efficient payment solutions, paving the way for a future where transactions are more fluid.

As cryptocurrencies gain acceptance, greater integration is expected by businesses and financial institutions. This could lead to the creation of more efficient payment solutions, faster financial services, and greater adoption of blockchain technologies across different sectors.

Regulatory Challenges

This journey towards financial reinvention is not without obstacles. Regulatory challenges have arisen. The issue of regulation becomes a crucial point that influences the global impact of cryptocurrencies.

The lack of regulation is perceived as a threat to financial stability, as some have used these digital assets for illegal activities, including money laundering and terrorist financing. The recent bankruptcy of FTX, owned by Sam Bankman-Fried, highlights the difficulties and consequences of not adequately regulating these types of organizations.

The Future of Integration

Despite these challenges, the impact of cryptocurrencies on traditional money is undeniable. Its influence extends from everyday transactions to the way businesses are financed and operated.

As cryptocurrency adoption continues to grow, the question that remains is how traditional banks will adapt and incorporate these innovative technologies into their existing models.

In this journey of financial reinvention, cryptocurrencies have opened a new chapter, challenging conventions and providing unexplored opportunities. Traditional money is facing a significant evolution. Now, only time will reveal how these two forces, old and new, will converge to shape the future of transactions and the very structure of our economy.

Regarding price action, crypto analyst Trend Rider recently shared information about the latest ADA price action in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). According to the analyst, ADA price saw a decline after reaching a yearly high of $0.811 on March 14. It is currently trading within the range of a parabolic red line and a cycling band.

The analyst further points out that the bullish trend strength has weakened in the last two weeks. This could indicate a temporary slowdown in ADA’s bullish momentum, which could lead to consolidation or sideways trading.

However, despite this weakening bullish strength, the analyst stated that the overall trend direction remains bullish, suggesting that ADA’s long-term prospects remain positive.

ADA is trading at $0.652, showing sideways price action in the last 24 hours. However, in the last seven days, the token successfully recovered from previous losses and recorded a gain of 5.4%.
