JPMorgan Optimistic on Approval of Ethereum Spot ETF

JPMorgan remains optimistic about the SEC’s approval of Ethereum ETFs, even amid potential regulatory challenges and litigation. Decentralization and less concentration on the Ethereum network may improve the chances of ETH not being classified as a security. Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas has reduced his optimism regarding an approval of Ethereum ETFs in May, highlighting the high uncertainty.

JPMorgan has expressed confidence that the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will give the green light to Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Although at the beginning of this year it did not give more than a 50% chance of approval by May, optimism persists in the company.

Ethereum ETF Approval Odds Improve

Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, managing director and global markets strategist at JPMorgan, said a delay beyond May could trigger a litigation process similar to previous legal battles involving Grayscale. He anticipates that the SEC could suffer a defeat in such litigation.

According to BlockBeats, despite JPMorgan’s previous prediction that the chances of an Ethereum spot ETF being approved within the initial review period in May were less than 50%, the company remains optimistic that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) eventually approves Ethereum spot. ETF. “If an Ethereum ETF is not approved in May, we assume there will be a litigation process after May,” Panigirtzoglou stated.

Panigirtzoglou further commented that “We think the most likely scenario is that the SEC will eventually lose in this lawsuit (similar to last year’s legal battle between Grayscale and Ripple), meaning that the SEC will eventually approve the Ethereum spot ETF (but probably not before May this year).”

Regarding the requests that await a response by the end of May, Panigirtzoglou maintains his expectations at 50% despite the doubts and denials expressed by certain analysts and researchers. However, this new reading comes a day after the JPMorgan researcher and his team spoke out on the legal definition for Ethereum, claiming that it may not qualify as a security as long as it reduces the participation of US companies in staking for the block processing.

This optimistic outlook persists even amid reports that the SEC is examining the Ethereum Foundation and efforts to classify Ethereum as a security. Nevertheless, the easing of centralization concerns, particularly Lido Finance’s declining market share, improves ETH’s prospects of bypassing the security designation.

More on JPMorgan’s Confidence in Ethereum Spot ETFs

The JPMorgan team highlights network decentralization as a critical factor, drawing on the SEC’s Hinman filings. Panigirtzoglou explained the following:

“Lido’s share of staked ETH has decreased further, from around a third a year ago to around a quarter today. This should reduce concerns about concentration on the Ethereum network, thus increasing the possibility that Ethereum avoids being designated as security in the future.”

The sentiment is not universally accepted, though. Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas noted a decline in his optimism. It adjusted its Ethereum ETF approval odds to 25% from the initial 70% in January.

The SEC’s current request for comment on several Ethereum ETF applications, from heavyweights like Fidelity. Additionally, Grayscale and Bitwise add a layer of anticipation to the narrative. These developments are being closely watched as they could significantly influence the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies in the United States.

Although the SEC officially approved Bitcoin ETFs, it seems that an Ethereum ETF has a much more complicated path due to the operational characteristics of its network. The issue appears to be with its consensus algorithm, which derives passive profits for those who support block processing by pledging funds.

South Korea to Introduce Strict Guidelines for Crypto Exchange Listings in May

According to reports from local media outlet News1, the move is part of the country’s efforts to improve transparency and security within its rapidly growing digital asset market.

The South Korean government is about to implement new guidelines to impose stricter regulation for token listings on centralized crypto exchanges (CEX) starting next month. The upcoming guidelines, spearheaded by South Korea’s financial authorities, aim to strengthen investor protection and uphold market integrity.

The rules are scheduled to be published in late April or early May. Once implemented, crypto exchanges inside and outside the country will be required to comply with the guidelines. Under the new rules,

South Korea-based crypto exchanges cannot list tokens associated with projects that have been exploited in the past, unless thorough investigations into root causes and security resolutions are completed. The guidelines also propose strict criteria for foreign crypto projects seeking to list on South Korean exchanges.

According to the report, these projects are required by law to publish detailed technical documents or technical manuals specifically designed for the South Korean market before being accepted for trading on exchanges. However, exemptions may apply to tokens traded on licensed exchanges for more than two years, preventing them from meeting the strict new criteria.

Authorities May Order Exchanges to Delist Certain Cryptocurrencies

The report also revealed that, under the new guidelines, authorities may decide to order exchanges to remove certain cryptocurrencies from their platforms if the token issuer does not provide complete information about the digital asset.

The new guidelines could prevent tokens issued by projects that have suffered hacking attacks and have yet to resolve security issues from being listed on local exchanges.

Additionally, the law allows authorities to hold crypto exchanges responsible for ensuring accurate disclosure of essential information by token issuers. Failure to provide complete information, including discrepancies between actual circulation figures and publicly disclosed amounts, may result in tokens being removed from exchanges.

South Korean financial authorities are currently seeking feedback from local exchanges to shape the new guidelines. According to the report, collaborative efforts between the country’s Financial Supervisory Services and stakeholders such as the Digital Asset Exchange Association have been instrumental in refining listing guidelines and fostering a robust regulatory framework.

Meanwhile, South Korea has one of the most active crypto markets in the Asia Pacific region. Upbit, the largest and most popular digital asset trading platform, recorded a 24-hour trading volume of $15 billion on March 5, 2024.

In July 2023, the company surpassed Coinbase and OKX in trading volume. The exchange saw a 42.3% increase in spot trading, reaching a record of $29.8 billion, while Coinbase and OKX saw their volumes decline by 11.6% and 5.75%, reaching $28.6 billion. of dollars and 29,000 million dollars, respectively.

Tougher Regulations in South Korea

South Korea has been evaluating and adopting new, stricter rules for the digital asset sector. In mid-2023, South Korean lawmakers passed a bill for consumer protection of the cryptocurrency market. Made up of a series of rules, the legislation covers market manipulation, illegal trading and other violations with digital assets that can lead to criminal sanctions or fines, depending on the severity of the crime.

These regulations, which will come into force in mid-2024, introduce more severe penalties for actors who commit crimes related to cryptocurrencies, including the possibility of a life-long prison sentence.

Local authorities are also reportedly evaluating a ban on the use of credit cards for the purchase of cryptocurrencies, while analyzing whether to approve the listing of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the local market.

Paraguay’s Plans to Ban Cryptocurrency Mining

The proposal went to evaluation and discussion by three Senate committees. Paraguay has been fighting against clandestine bitcoin mining for more than 1 year.

When talking about cryptocurrency mining in Paraguay, the scorching heat is just the tip of the iceberg. With temperatures above average in the country and air conditioning in full operation, the country’s electrical grid is on the verge of collapse. The overloading of Paraguay’s electrical system became a topic of political debate this week.

However, the weather is not the only factor that is straining the electrical grid. The government claims that illegal cryptocurrency mining farms are gobbling up gigawatts like there is no tomorrow. To address this, a group of Paraguayan legislators presented a Bill to try to temporarily reduce the activity of the cryptocurrency mining industry.

The idea is to suspend all activities related to cryptocurrencies, without exceptions: “The creation, preservation, storage and commercialization of virtual assets or crypto assets, cryptocurrencies and the installation of cryptocurrency mining farms in Paraguayan territory are temporarily prohibited.”

Project with Problematic Legal Loopholes

The problem with the new project is not the attempt to protect the population against the lack of electricity. The bill’s broad language could also inadvertently prohibit other cryptocurrency activities. For example, it could ban cryptocurrency staking, which creates virtual assets, and even ban the simple act of holding digital assets in a wallet, which is actually the act of storing or preserving cryptoassets.

According to the bill, the lack of clear regulation for cryptocurrencies left the door open to all kinds of problems. The project highlights issues ranging from consumer protection to potential criminal activities such as money laundering and tax evasion.

Illegal Mining Would Be the Problem

Despite the project’s broad wording, it appears the idea is to address a very specific problem: illegal cryptocurrency mining farms that have been popping up across the country. These clandestine operations have consumed electricity and circumvented existing local regulations.

In a recent raid on Quindii Radio facilities, a staggering 700 active ASICs were discovered. It was a cryptocurrency mining farm so large that it required as much electricity as the city where it was located. Regarding similar cases, government officials say these illegal operations cost the state utility, ANDE, more than $60 million a year in lost revenue.

Proposal’s Approval Process

The project proposes that the ban last 180 days or until a regulation is established. In addition, the project also foresees that the ANDE (National Electricity Administration of Paraguay) can guarantee sufficient infrastructure to sustain the energy demands of cryptocurrency mining without compromising the population.

The project was prepared and presented by 14 Paraguayan senators, most of them members of the political party National Republican Association (ANR), which is one of the most important political groups in that South American nation.

The bill that wants to ban all BTC-related activity was sent to three Senate committees for evaluation and deliberation. These are: The Legislation, Codification, Justice and Labor Commission; the Commission on Energy, Natural Resources, Population, Environment, Production and Sustainable Development; and the Commission for Sciences, Technology, Innovation and the Future.

It is now up to the committees to ensure that the legislative process of the proposal continues without complications. If approved in the committees, the project will be returned to the Senate Plenary and, if it also receives approval there, it will be sent to the Congress of Deputies.

Bitcoin Cash Price Hits 29-Month High – Will BCH price reach $1,000 in Q2?

Even though the elite cryptocurrency shows mixed sentiment, the industry has shown a reversal of the bullish trend in the market as major altcoins and mid-cap tokens record significant bullish trends in their respective portfolios.

Bitcoin cash (BCH) is both a cryptocurrency and a payments network. It was created after a hard fork with bitcoin in December 2017 with the goal of increasing the number of processable transactions.

Bitcoin cash price has successfully regained momentum after testing its low of $584, indicating further entry into the market.

Furthermore, the upcoming Bitcoin halving is considered one of the main factors for the recent surge as it indicates that more traders are becoming investors in this asset.

Bitcoin Cash Price Hits $700 for the First Time Since September 2021

After showing a negative trend since the beginning of the month, the bulls successfully regained momentum and recorded a significant jump in valuation. Furthermore, the BCH price regained $700 after a 29-month wait, indicating a strong bullish influence in the crypto space.

However, the rally was short-lived as the price faced rejection soon after reclaiming its high. This further suggests a strong liquidation point at that level as the token steadily faces rejection at its $700 resistance level. Positively, the altcoin has added over 9% in the last 24 hours and about 52.50% in the last 30 days. At the time of writing, the trading price of Bitcoin Cash was $690.1 and its year-to-date value was 165.83%, indicating high potential for this crypto token in the long-term perspective.

BCH Market Sentiments

The simple moving average (SMA) shows a bullish curve on the chart, suggesting a strong positive influence on the cryptocurrency market. On the other hand, the MACD shows a constant increase in the green histogram, indicating greater buying pressure over selling. in the market. Furthermore, the averages are showing a significant bullish trend, suggesting that the price will continue to gain value in the future.

Will BCH Price Reach $1,000?

If the bulls continue to dominate the market, the BCH price will continue to gain value and test its resistance level of $750 over the next week. Maintaining the price at that level will set the stage for the Bitcoin Cash token to attempt to test its upper level of $800 this month. On the contrary, if a trend reversal occurs, the altcoin will lose momentum and fall to test its support level of $650. Furthermore, if the bears continue to dominate the market, the market will plummet and prepare to test its lower support level of $600 in the coming time.

BCH Price Forecast for April 2024

Based on Bitcoin Cash price fluctuations in early 2023, crypto experts expect the average price of BCH to be $$589.68 in April 2024. Its minimum and maximum prices can be expected at $$541.49 and $$637.87, respectively. This is according to Changelly.

CryptoPredictions points out that Bitcoin Cash started in April 2024 at $767.768 and is predicted to finish the month at $388.200. During April, the maximum forecasted BCH price is $453.329 and the minimum price is $308.263.

Additionally, CryptoPredictions forecasts that the BCH Price today (05.04.2024) will be in the $410.559 – $603.763 price range, and that Bitcoin Cash will end today at $483.010.

Google Sues Crypto Scammers Over Fake Apps in Android App Store

Google sues individuals in China and Hong Kong for deploying 87 fake apps, scamming more than 100,000 users. The lawsuit constitutes a first in the technology sector, as it concerns damages worth more than $75,000 and violations of digital trust. Scammers used romance scams, manipulating users into stealing them through fake crypto apps and YouTube narrations.

Google, one of the world’s biggest tech giants, has filed a lawsuit against a group of cryptocurrency scammers for allegedly defrauding more than 100,000 people in its app store.

The lawsuit, filed in the United States Southern District Court in New York, claimed that the defendants uploaded fake cryptocurrency trading apps and other investment opportunities on the Google Play Store to attract investors into the scheme.

Google Fights Crypto Scammers in Lawsuit

The move makes Google the first technology company to take legal action against online scammers, aiming to set a precedent to protect users. The alleged scammers were identified simply as Yunfeng Sun, who also goes by the alias Alphonse Sun, and Hongnam Cheung, also known as Zhang Hongnim or Stanford Fischer. Both are based in China and Hong Kong, respectively.

Google claimed in the lawsuit that Sun and Fischer provided false information, including misrepresentations about their identity, location, and the nature of the apps, to obtain permission to publish the apps on its Play Store.

Sun and Fischer started the operation in 2019 and successfully created and published at least 87 fraudulent apps to trick users on the app store. They allegedly lured victims to download the app through text message campaigns, online promotional videos, and affiliate marketing campaigns.

According to Google, “the text messages purported to come from the wrong numbers, but then the sender engaged in conversations with the victims, developing ‘friendship’ and ‘romantic ties,'” the complaint says.

Victims Ask Google for Help

One of the scam apps, designed to look legitimate, was revealed to be TionRT. The app served as a crypto exchange, showing users that they earned returns on their investments. However, users were unable to withdraw their investments or profits.

Google said the app would allow users to withdraw small amounts initially, or would require fees or minimum balances for withdrawals, ultimately tricking victims into getting more money. Google was alerted to the fake apps by victims who contacted the company after failed attempts to withdraw their funds. The company claimed in the lawsuit that users lost hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars each in the scheme.

The lawsuit was filed against the scammers under the U.S. Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and was based on violations of contractual claims against the scammers. The company is seeking a permanent injunction against the defendants and their employees and general damages to prevent them from creating Google accounts and accessing Google services in the future.

The Growth of “Romantic” Cryptocurrency Scams

Recent statistics from Chainalysis reveal a worrying upward trend in romance scams, which have increased eighty-five-fold since 2020. This increase highlights a worrying trend in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, where personal and financial vulnerabilities are being exploited.

Incidents like KK Park in Myanmar exemplify the serious consequences of these scams, where cryptocurrency transactions have facilitated extortion and financial devastation.

Personal stories, like that of an Indian software engineer who lost more than $120,500 to a matrimonial site scam, illustrate the harsh reality of digital fraud. These stories are not mere anecdotes, but reflect a broader pattern of digital vulnerability and exploitation.

How Will $1.2 Billion Options Expiration Affect the Bitcoin (BTC) Price?

18,000 BTC contracts and 270,000 ETH contracts will expire soon. The total value of the expiring options exceeds $2 billion. Options traders’ sentiment turns bearish amid a drop below $70,000.

A host of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) options expire today. Let’s find out how this will affect the price of the underlying assets.

Cryptocurrency options are derivative contracts that allow traders to buy or sell an asset at a specific price on a specific expiration date. If the option owner decides not to buy or sell cryptocurrency, he or she is not obligated to do so.

This makes options more flexible than futures, which require you to close a position regardless of profits or losses.

Bears Dominate the Options Market

The face value of the 18,000 BTC contracts and 270,000 ETH contracts that will soon expire is $1.2 billion and $890 million, respectively.

Could options expiration cause greater volatility in the market and affect the price of the two largest cryptocurrencies by capitalization? According to Greeks.live, Bitcoin’s put/call ratio remains at 0.64. The maximum critical point, that is, the price at which the asset will cause financial losses to the greatest number of holders, is $68,000.

Ethereum’s put/call ratio is 0.8, and the maximum pain point for ETH is at $3,400.

“The cryptocurrency market was weaker this week, with the $70,000 battle ending with shorts winning and call selling becoming the dominant trade, with IV showing significant declines across all major terms…Bitcoin is approaching the halving on a positive note, other currencies are stuck in a short-term bear market and inflows into ETFs have slowed recently as the market digests the ETF premium,” the analysts commented.

What Will Happen to the BTC and ETH Price during Expiration?

Last week was not a successful one for Bitcoin: the asset failed to stay above $70,000 and briefly fell below the leading $65,000. Currently, the price of Bitcoin stands at $67,500. Ethereum showed similar dynamics, falling below $3,200.

It is quite difficult to predict how the market will behave on the expiration day of a large number of contracts, especially if events are added that affect the background of the news.

However, traders should closely monitor the situation to ensure that increased volatility does not lead to unwanted stop loss orders or poor trading decisions.

It is important to remember that the impact of option expiration on the price of the underlying asset is short-term. As a general rule, the next day the market will return to its normal state and strong price deviations will be compensated.

Halving Will Be Definitive to Boost the Price of Bitcoin

Some predict Bitcoin will reach $200,000. However, according to PlanB, that figure could fall short. From S2F’s perspective, he is looking for a significantly above-average target, possibly exceeding $500,000, to align with the model’s projections.

A key factor reinforcing this optimistic outlook is the performance of on-chain indicators, such as realized price and two-year realized price, which demonstrate notable growth during bull markets. The five-month realized price, in particular, establishes a strong new support level at $60,000.

VanEck Predicts Ethereum L2 Networks Will Reach $1 Billion Valuation

VanEck, a leading investment management firm, has projected a monumental $1 trillion valuation for Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) networks by 2030. This bold forecast highlights the important role L2 solutions play in the scalability of the Ethereum network, addressing its main scalability challenges.

If VanEck’s prediction comes true, it would mean a nearly 4x increase in the valuation of L2 solutions over the next 6 years. The analysis is based on the assumption that smart contracts in the Ethereum ecosystem will have a market share of 60%.
