President of Bitcoin Argentina Explains What Would Happen If Satoshi Sold His BTC

Andragnes considers it necessary to analyze what would happen to Bitcoin in different scenarios. The president of Bitcoin Argentina wondered whether Satoshi was not as good as people think.

Someone asked a question to Rodolfo Andragnes, the president of the NGO Bitcoin Argentina and the co-founder of Signatura. That person wanted to know what would happen if Satoshi Nakamoto moved his bitcoins.

The creator of Bitcoin used the pseudonym “Satoshi Nakamoto” to participate in Internet forums and other areas related to its development. He apparently mined 1 million BTC between 2009 and 2010 and has kept them with him since then.

Andragnes replied to the person who posed the question and said that that possibility needs some analysis. “Everyone says that those 1 million BTC will never move, that Nakamoto died, or that he was Hal Finney. In our fantasy, we think that Satoshi is the best person in the world,” he said.

The president of the NGO Bitcoin Argentina wondered whether Satoshi was not as good as people think. He also has doubts about whether he is Craig Wright or he will eventually move those bitcoins. “Imagine Satoshi selling all of his BTC and flooding the market,” he added.

This Argentine knew the pioneering cryptocurrency in its beginning as he happened to register the domain bitcoins.com a long time ago. After raising that hypothetical scenario, he speculated about what could happen to Bitcoin.

Andragnes also mentioned that the price of Bitcoin can go up and down repeatedly. He said that those drops are a consequence of some risk that the community perceives. “Once that risk disappears, it becomes a solid foundation of new confidence, which leads to a new scenario,” he explained.

For example, he mentioned the Bitcoin community’s fears before the hard fork that gave rise to Bitcoin Cash (BCH) in 2017. “There was a huge doubt about what would happen and whether this new currency and BTC would compete until only one survived,” Andragnes recalled. “Nothing happened and, as a result, the subsequent forks had no impact,” he concluded.

Bitcoins Versus Altcoins

Some other people asked Andragnes about altcoins, that is, cryptocurrencies other than BTC. Concerning this matter, he replied that “the vast majority of altcoins are very far from offering something similar to BTC. The main cryptocurrency has advantages in terms of security, development type, and ecosystem.”

The creation of Satoshi Nakamoto is “almost a safe bet, whenever people talk about the world of cryptocurrencies,” stated the founder of the NGO. He considers that “everything else is a roulette wheel and some may take a big leap as an investment. However, “they do not have any of the same bases and foundations that make Bitcoin solid and reliable.”

“Bitcoin is a turtle that wants to be money and a store of value, as well as move very slowly without anyone noticing it. Underneath that hard shell, there is a live organism,” he explained. He made it clear that he accepts the existence of other cryptocurrencies, but he attributes roles different from those of Bitcoin to them.

Amati concluded by saying that “Bitcoin is probably the most conservative of all cryptocurrencies,” he said.

The HRF Finances a Project to Improve the Connectivity of Bitcoin and Specter Wallet

The international non-profit organization will award each project USD 25,000 in Bitcoin. The Gemini Opportunity Fund supports the awarded funds.

In recent days, two projects to improve the use of Bitcoin received financial aid from the Human Rights Foundation (HRF). The projects that benefited are those of Ben Kaufman and the Global Mesh Labs team. The HRF Bitcoin Development Fund will award each of them the amount of USD 25,000 in Bitcoin.

Open-source software developer Ben Kaufman will use the sum to enhance his “Specter Desktop” desktop wallet. According to the HRF, “Ben’s work at Specter will make it even easier for anyone to be their own bank.”

Ben Kaufman explained that he has spent some time working on Specter Desktop. He said that “this is an interface to protect people’s wallets, without depending on third-party servers.”

Kaufman also described some of the main features that this desktop wallet offers. He mentioned that its own device (node) allows it not to depend on third parties. Besides, he stated that it is compatible with any hardware wallet or physical device for saving private cryptocurrency keys. This tool also allows configuring users’ wallets as single sig and multi sig. Besides, it allows selecting cryptocurrencies and improves the sending of funds through blockstream services.

Improving Bitcoin Core Payment Channels

The Human Rights Foundation will also award USD 25,000 to the Lot49 project from Global Mesh Labs. This company is currently developing a decentralized network of payment channels based on Bitcoin and Lightning Network.

The abovementioned project is based on technology for Android mobile devices with low bandwidth mobile networks. It will allow Bitcoin to “be more usable in environments of mobile devices with irregular Internet connectivity, unstable currencies, and poor infrastructure.” That is what developers Richard Myers, Fodé Diop, and Will Clark predict.

According to the details of the project, “existing payment channel protocols do not focus on efficiently routing data and payments at the same time.” For that reason, they believe that their app would solve this problem by preserving decentralization. Global Mesh Labs claim that their signature aggregation and channel update scheme are more efficient to settle transactions. They believe that their system opens a flexible design space to optimize the coverage and reliability of mobile mesh networks to preserve decentralization.

Other Projects that Have Received Financing

Last year, another project (From Venezuela) aimed at improving payment channels received financing from the Monero community fund. They are Locha Mesh, the creators of a device called “el Turpial”. Its purpose is to issue Bitcoin transactions and messages without the Internet.

Other developers have received help from the HRF thanks to the Gemini exchange. Since December of last year, this platform has had a donation fund to support the development of Bitcoin Core. In December 2020, the HFR also financed, along with Square Crypto, the Package Mempool Accept project. Its objective is to “optimize the Bitcoin fee system.”

These are the More Functional Wallets According to Vitalik Buterin, Co-creator of Ethereum

0

According to Buterin, the brain cannot retain passwords or tracking paper wallets. Buterin’s ideal wallets are the ones that need third parties to retrieve passwords and accesses.

Vitalik Buterin, co-creator of Ethereum, talked about various topics, a relevant one is a weakness that some cryptocurrency wallers show, that weakness mostly includes hardware issues. He claimed that social recovery purses are currently his favorite alternative.

The user of wallets like these can use them normally. The highlight is that: In case users lose their key signature then they can always approach the social recovery to help them to get back the dominion over their compromised wallet.

“The user can simply contact their guardians and ask them to sign a special transaction to change the public signature key that accesses to the wallet contract for a new one,” explains Buterin.

He explains how easy is to add new tutors and also says that in any sensibly designed social recovery wallet, the tutor does not need to download and use the same wallet; the tutor can simply use the user’s existing Ethereum wallet.

“I prefer a high number of tutors, ideally more than seven”, says Buterin says that his preference lays on an ideal of at least seven tutors and clarifies that this preference is to add a major sense of security to his operations.

Keep the Guardians Unknown, it is too Risky

The Etherean community leader recommends keeping the guardians unknown; it is too risky to have known guardians because of the probability of a sudden attack increases in a very high percentage.

He recommends choosing carefully a diverse catalogue of tutors; unknown guardians can reduce the risk of coordinated attacks that may harm guardians simultaneously.

The goal of cryptocurrencies, according to Buterin, “was never to eliminate the total need for trust” but rather to “give more options who to trust.”

Moreover, cryptocurrencies permit people to build more solid forms of trust such as granting a stranger the power to do some things on their behalf but cutting them down from the possibility to act in deliberation.

Of the most popular purses are the multi-signature ones. These are Buterin’s favorites. “The Ethereum Foundation uses a 4 of 7 multi-signature wallets to store its funds, just like many other organizations in the Ethereum ecosystem,” he says.

But, for the Ethereum benchmark, all the wallets proposed so far, such as paper-wallets, hardware, and also multi-signature have several flaws. Buterin explains that sometimes multi-signature wallets decrease any attempt of additional protection against cyber-crimes. Buterin comments that the biggest trouble that happens when there is a loss of funds due to security breaches or failure, or even worse, the loss of a key is that there won’t be a second chance, you are officially at risk of losing it all, he is currently working on help making cryptocurrencies a safer place for investors.

ARK: Creates a New Blockchain Method that Analyzes and Focus on More Transparent Investment Decisions

Glassnode and Ark created a new blockchain analysis method that suits very well to investors at the time they wish to start an audit; some specific metrics depending on the size and strategy of the investor.

Bitcoin is famous for being an asset with a lot of favorable features, but perhaps the most important ones are its transparency and the easy way it has to receive an audit.

Ark, a company that specializes in disruptive investments, and Glassnode, who specializes in blockchain analysis, established in the first of a series of three publications a new method of fundamental analysis of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is continuously under the radar of institutional investors critics because of its volatility, and instability as an asset. These institutional investors believe that adopting this cryptocurrency is high risk; this idea comes in a certain way from the traditional financial system.

Bitcoin possesses a massive range of data that permits a successful analysis of its fundamental elements. Those participants in the market can make visual contact with data from the blockchain in a deeper way than those traditional assets out there, they can visualize data from the Bitcoin blockchain in a better way than with any other traditional asset.

Among the elements that provide transparency and a better disposition to audit to Bitcoin, there are the simplicity and traceability of its accounting system, based on outputs (UTXO). They also argue that Bitcoin’s codebase’s been under audit many times, maybe more than any other free software in the crypto-industry.

Different Qualities in Comparison with Traditional Systems

These qualities differ in various points to the nature of traditional assets, which can rarely suffer an audit as completely as Bitcoin to determine the market behavior.

Moreover, they also make a special mention of bitcoin nodes, which assure an integrated environment in the network and are by far more cost-efficient than the nodes of alternative cryptocurrency networks.

A node is within easy reach, and anyone can have access to this data without having to trust third parties. This does not happen with the traditional system, and it is precisely what makes bitcoin a so interesting alternative.

Ark and Glassnode will Continue to Publish the Approximation they Make of the Data they Collected in Bitcoin

The method forges its structure through a three-level system, where the first level establishes the heart and functions of the network; the second works as an analyzer of the behavior of buyers and sellers, it is more under the specter of the market, while the final level studies in a more profound way the relativity that embraces the valuation of the asset.

In the end, it is important to take into account the use and adoption of the network, the number of active addresses, the number of transactions, and the volume of transactions are related to the total market capitalization.

In the next few days, Ark and Glassnode will continue to publish the approximation they make of the data they already possess from Bitcoin. The main focus is to pave the way for investors to execute at ease a successful investment strategy.

A User Complains and then FinCEN Extends its Debate about Bitcoin Wallets

0

The network added 15 days for comments about the withdrawals that surpasses the sum of $ 10,000. FinCen is granting another 45 days for the proposal that involves the banks.

The United States Department of the Treasury, through the Network for the Suppression of Financial Crimes (FinCEN), extended the deadline for receiving comments on its proposal to regulate self-custodial bitcoin and cryptocurrency wallets.

The resolution comes to light after the entity received a hard pack of critics regarding the short deadline it imposed (15 days) to receive the comments and other suggestions.

The institution reported this Thursday, January 14, that there are two new lapses for two of its proposals: The first, of 15 days, on which the department will receive opinions about cryptocurrency withdrawals that surpasses an equivalent of $ 10,000 towards personal wallets. The second extension is 45 days, and this lapse’s goal is to receive comments about new requirements that could cause an effect on banks or other financial services. In this case, financial institutions would have to provide data on transactions that involve cryptocurrencies and their current operators.

The Requirement of the potential regulation Is for Users to Provide Identification and Personal Information

According to FinCEN, more than 7,500 comments landed on its platform from different entities, users, and organizations that play a significant role in the bitcoin ecosystem.

Adequate control is what FinCen is aiming to, considering all the points and opinions from the community will give the knowledge that the organism needs to achieve its goals. FinCEN received harsh critics for granting the small amount of15 days to receive opinions about this subject. Usually, the periods for observations and comments regarding the regulation proposals are 60 days. The criticism reached a peak when users saw that the 15 days included holidays.

FinCEN’s Proposals to Regulate Self-custodial Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Wallets could transgress the United States Constitution

FinCEN’s proposals to regulate self-custodial bitcoin and cryptocurrency wallets may harm the United States Constitution. That is a consideration of Marta Belcher, a lawyer, and defender of civil rights to crypto-assets.

If the regulation goes into effect, this would give the government an allowance to reach and to obtain financial data that does not guard any relationship with FinCEN’s requirements for non-crypto currency transactions.

The fourth amendment, which guarantees the right to privacy and the right to be free from arbitrary invasion, would be an obstacle to a provision like this. The proposed regulation would give the government the identities and addresses of cryptocurrency wallets.

Due to the nature of public blockchains, this means that the government would know the identity of the actors behind every transaction as well as the addresses, even if the amount is below the required.

FinCEN’s new proposal intends to minimize the risks of money laundering as well as other crypto-crimes. Many users are skeptical regarding this proposal, mainly because it represents a potential risk of data leaking and misuse.

There is a new version of Bitcoin Core and Includes a Set of Privacy and Performance Improvements

The improvements will benefit users with more privacy and more refined performance, a new type of wallet is another highlight. It is a total achievement in terms of privacy.

Bitcoin Core released its version 21 (0.21.0) of the original Bitcoin software client. Finally, one of the biggest Bitcoin Core updates in recent years is now at hand.

Bitcoin Core possesses an arsenal of functional features, including privacy and performance improvements. This is a huge step towards the long-awaited Schnorr / Taproot protocol.

Wladimir J. Van Der Laan, the developer that is running the project, announced the new version on the Linux Foundation forum. Almost all the changes go intending to improve the network performance and consolidation of a more private and safe system. The new version of Bitcoin Core introduces a new format to improve the possibility for Bitcoin nodes to share new Tor addresses with updated messages. Optimized communication is one of the first goals of the project.

Innovation, New Features, and more secure Transaction tracking

With all these innovations now on board, the mempool will be able to track bitcoin transactions sent via a wallet or remote procedure call (RPC) as well as the success of such transactions.

Every 10-15 minutes, the node will try to announce non-broadcast transactions by a peer via message, or the transaction gets removed from the mempool for other reasons.

In parallel, this version takes a path that is distancing it from Schnorr / Taproot, the Schnorr signature algorithm, along with Taproot have a role in the new version, but this signature algorithm is lacking activation on the mainnet. It means that it will be available for application developers that desire to start designing experimental software.

The Significance of this Version for the Advance of the Development of Bitcoin Technology

The inclusion of these algorithms is significant for the advance of the development of Bitcoin technology, Schnorr, on the one hand, shows upgrades concerning the current ECDSA signature algorithm, while Taproot shows improved scalability as well as a more solid privacy system.

One of the Taproot developers talked about the importance of these improvements, claiming that they create a relevant reduction in the sizes of multi-transactions on the blockchain, creating an improvement that affects the performance of the network in a very positive way.

Wladimir J. Van Der Laan says that this new version of Bitcoin Core is an ingenious protocol that will allow better use of the memory of the chain thanks to better use of the available space. He added that these algorithms are the future of more secure and solid privacy systems. Version 0.21.0 introduces a new type of wallet, its name is descriptors and is a wallet that differs and distance itself from the ‘default’ Bitcoin (BTC) wallets. This implementation will be a useful tool for application developers who work on the design of software on Bitcoin Core.
